Microsoft has confirmed it’s offered Sony the option to put future Call of Duty games on its PlayStation Plus subscription service on day one, as part of its bid to appease regulators’ concerns over its proposed Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Nice! Though I doubt Sony will want that.

Pretty good offer there for sure. Doubt Sony will go for it though.

Not an attractive proposition for Sony as (1) it'll cost them a lot, and (2) Sony is protesting the acquisition because they rely on the game's substantial sales revenue to fund their first party development investments.

No doubt this would be a major plus for Sony PS Plus Extra/Premium subscription base, but Sony isn't thinking like that.

It seems like MS is just constantly begging Sony for things.

I think MS offered it knowing Sony wouldn't want it.

Sony makes a ton from CoD having exclusive betas and content so they don't want to lose that.

MS wants to show that Sony is being unreasonable (which they are)

The deal will eventually go through and Sony will either have to sign the deal or just lose out on CoD guaranteed on their platform (not that MS could afford to pull it)

Either way, Sony isn't going to put CoD on PS+ no matter how sweet the deal is, they'd rather picket those 30% royalties

Lmao! They’re offering PlayStation the ability to even make LESS money on COD… I’d be shocked if they were able to make that offer with a straight face.

That’s also a dangerous offer. PS could take the deal, eliminating hundreds of millions in sales revenue for Xbox… They might wanna be careful with this acquisition trolling

Sounds like a good deal and all good deals sound good until you read the fine print.

I'd take the deal if the acquisition is successful.

Folks really don’t understand much beyond “it saves me money.” The rest is just fiction they create in their head because they just saved some money

Sony doesn't want day one releases of AAA games on their service though.

Man, MS REALLY wants Activision.

I still don't know what they "need" CoD for. I just think it'll be good for them to have Blizzard. It'll help them compete with live service games.

The concern though, is that they pay 68B, but what happens if CoD suddenly stops becoming a big deal.

They won't even be able to have any form of exclusivity with CoD now. So what is the appeal. I think they should sell off CoD and get the rest personally.

@HalcyonScarlet: Microsoft only wants King. Activision is just the cherry on the ice cream.

Microsoft can just drop Activision to force the deal through and they will get everything they want. This is why the deal goes through no matter what.

Think about this too! Microsoft will give PS players a taste of Game Pass and will make many new loyal friends for the next wave of consoles. Not even next gen: think like the upgraded hardware. They called this Xbox Series for a reason.

If gamers want the fastest best and, also latest new games and continue playing all older games, they will know why they have to choose Xbox next time.

You would think it would help Sony boost more subs? But of course, I think Sony should at the very least offer playing CoD Campaign on PS+ and leave the MP out of it would be a better option.

But hey, I'm just a PC gamer, not a business gaming man, so what do I know🤷‍♂️

Their customers save money, yes. But PlayStation loses out on hundreds of millions of dollars in software sales revenue AND they have to pay Xbox to put the game in the PS+ service. That’s a terrible deal for them. And Xbox would lose out on the PlayStation sales as well, making this a bad deal for Xbox too.

Xbox is just trolling. Nobody wants this deal (other than consumers)

Activision makes billions in microtransactions, not to mention how big they are on mobile too. Not a surprising offer, although this is more to create PR issues for Sony than a real offer imo.

They make more on the sales than the subs. Their subscription services are secondary to them and they've made that known.

There is no way regulators can disapprove this deal now. Microsoft is giving Sony everything including the kitchen sink.

Sony doesn't want to pay to have it on ps+, they want their better deal to stay in place so they make more money off the game than the competition. They want the percentage of the sales.

I'm assuming this will be a timed deal, as in 10 years or so.

MS simply wants this acquisition to go through. After 10 years, all of these IP's, including COD, will be GamePass exclusive. This would give MS the upper hand against Google, Apple and Amazon in the gaming service/cloud gaming race. In the meantime, MS will promise the entire world to Sony for this thing to go through.

Sony knows this, hence the push back. Sony simply won't be able to compete if every popular IP goes exclusive to other services, and they don't have enough money to buy their way in, either.
