The bottom line here is Cows are really quite these days as they obviously know Sony is in trouble and does not have to $$$ or capital to keep pumping out 1st party games like they did years ago.

MS on the other hand does have a huge treasure chest of dollars and the ability to make it rain whenever they want but are being strategic and setting the stage for the industry and the foundation of how the gaming word will function in the coming years. Sony unfortunately won't be able to keep pace with this.

The harsh reality is with game cost and development everyone will have to go multiplat and yes Nintendo will be a tad immune to this but not like before and will still have to go multiplat for some games and likely even more in a few years time.

MS has tons of big AAA/AAAA games in development and coming out soon and in a few years and has even more in the pipeline. Meanwhile Sony seems to be in serious trouble and is being forced to go the remasters route and live game service route, VR Canceled and also finally after 10+ years going backwards compatible route, something MS literally did 10-15 years ago. These are all things that is cheaper for Sony to do becuase they can't keep pace with MS and put out big budget games at the pace MS will be able to do.

And don't think you'll be able to just sit back and say well I'll just get a PlayStation and wait for MS to release all this big and best games on PlayStation. This will happen but you will be waiting becuase MS will launch first on Xbox/PC and have the best versions and extra addons then maybe release 6/12/18 months later on PlayStation depending the game and situation.

Here is just a taste of the greatness coming to Xbox!

Avowed

Stalker 2

Indiana Jones

Gears E-Day

Doom Dark Ages

Contraband

Everwild

Fable

Perfect Dark

Blade

State of Decay 3

South of Midnight

Age of Mythology

Expedition 33

Flintlock The Siege of Dawn

Elder Scholl's 6

Fallout 3 remake heavily rumored.

Starfield Shattered Space, and major update and Mods have dropped also.

COD BLOPS 6 and all previous and future COD games

All Activision games

All Blizzard games

XBOX GAME PASS DAY DAY ONE!!!!!! And next gen hardware coming and likely a new handheld as well.

The story here folks is you either better get a Xbox or build a high-end PC becuase PlayStation's days of leading the charge with big budget games is OVER!!!!!!

There's going to be a lot of CRICKETS in this thread from the Cows

Make no mistake, cows are quiet but they're there, wait for the next "insider" to make some sensational anti-Xbox clickbait to be virally circle referenced to "Xbox is doomed" levels.

And despite Xbox's promising showcase that impressed many, I've a strong feeling when the content rolls out it'll be the same old "it is good but it's not changing or going to change Xbox's position in the console market so therefore it's actually pretty meh".

The folks that skipped out on Xbox consoles are more than likely OK waiting for the bulk of these games to hit their PlayStations.

@xbox7204life: The thing is, MS hasn't delivered yet.

Yes, I am hyped for a lot of those games, too. But, MS still has to take it from hype to being a great game - that actually releases. That is something I haven't seen them do with any regularity in a long time. I love Starfield - but that was released... nine months ago? Where's the steady release of AAAs we were promised?

Nearly half those games are multiplat and some haven't been made public just yet one way or the other. That said, SONY has definitely been just coasting and if they don't do something soon it's going to come back and bite them like their complacency and ego did with the earlier years of the PS3. I still think they are waiting to reveal a lot of games until after the proper reveal of the PS5 Pro.

They won't sell their PS5 to get Starfield and lose all that money.

Wow, really? Did you game on Xbox in the past year? I know I was. In the past year Xbox Game Studios was busy releasing:

  • Starfield
  • Hi-Fi Rush
  • Age of Empires 2 for Xbox
  • Age of Empires 4 for Xbox
  • Sea of Thieves Monkey Island Expansion
  • Redfall
  • Forza Motorsport 2023
  • Hellblade 2
  • Diablo 4

And still to come this year from Xbox Game Studios

  • Avowed
  • Age of Mythology: Retold
  • Indiana Jones
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 6

And that doesn't include non Xbox Game Studios games like STALKER 2, Towerborne, 33 Imortals, Ark 2, Replaced, Dungeons of Hinterburg.

THEN you have all the third party games coming out on top of that.

If you can't find any good Xbox games, the problem is you, not Xbox.

you're taking that quote out of context.. the context was that with digital libraries, there's no silver bullet (ie Starfeild) that's going to magically make Xbox consoles outsell PlayStation consoles..

secondly, beyond live service games, there have been only two Xbox games ported over to PlayStation: HiFi Rush and Pentiment.. i know the internet told you that "all games are going to PlayStation" but that has not been announced.. certain games (like DOOM the Dark Ages) will be handled on a case-by-case basis in terms of mulitplatform..

feel free to continue to port-beg but the idea that the "bulk of these games will hit PlayStation" is just fanboy fiction currently..

I wouldn't sell my Xbox because Sony gave us an 11/10 Wolverine. I am too invested in my digital library. I own 752 games on Xbox. I wouldn't sell my PlayStation because Xbox gave us an 11/10 Indiana Jones. I am too invested in my digital library. I own 201 games on PlayStation.

The best that Xbox can do is:

  • Convince PS gamers to have a second gaming device, be it an Xbox or PC or mobile device
  • Attract new gamers from the start
  • Invest in Xbox consoles and PC's
  • Find a way to put Xbox in more countries. PS is sold in double the countries
  • Push Game Pass even harder if they want to get consumers behind their ecosystem

Xbox can put as many blockbuster titles in their portfolio that they want. Nobody is going to sell their PS and buy an Xbox.

So, this is only one person...but, there is a guy I work with. He is a PS gamer. But he also has an Xbox Series S. But he prefers his PlayStation. Anyway, the other day he asked if I was getting the new COD this fall. I said of course (him and I play on RARE occasions). I said, you know, it's on Game Pass on day one (he has Game Pass, but rarely uses his Xbox). He said he had no idea it was coming to Game Pass. He said he will just play it there then since he is already paying for Game Pass.

The problem in that scenario is awareness. He plays his PS5 nearly everyday. He had NO IDEA that COD was coming to Xbox Game Pass day one. MS is doing a poor job of promoting the value of their service.

MS is to blame for Xbox not selling as many consoles as it should. That said, I could see MS surpassing Sony in game revenue, subscription revenue, total users, profits and STILL sell half as many consoles as PlayStation.

MS has the right idea by not focusing on consoles only, but I think they are stumbling right now doing so.

I M O

Those are Xbox Game Studios games that released this past year. Just because they don't appeal to you doesn't deter from the fact that they were released and were enjoyed (and are enjoyed) by many. And not sure why you don't count ported games. All the ports like TLOU, God of Wars, etc are all counted as AAA. AoE is BRAND new to console players. Why can't big expansions count? People are losing their shit over Elden Ring's new expansion and calling it AAA and calling it a RELEASE. And nobody in their right mind would call an 81 a flop.

I know the context and, the "silver bullet" analogy still applies.

I understand the situation is case-by-case but the fact that it's not a clear-cut situation adds an immense amount of doubt. Someone who hasn't bought an Xbox is going to have some doubts buying one if these games could make it to a much more popular and "safe" console choice in the PS5. What exactly is their thought process? DOOM is a very popular IP and, it's day one on PlayStation. *Why* couldn't Gears of War E-Day be day one? There's no answer.

It's basically ... PS5 w/ PlayStation and some Xbox games vs Xbox w/ Xbox games.

I still think folks choose PlayStation (for now).

Agreed; I think you're spot on with a lot of what you said.

BUT, a lot of their future success around revenue, MAU etc. still requires PlayStation (and Nintendo). There is no situation that Microsoft is this leader of "gaming" and they aren't on the two major console platforms.

I still think folks choose PlayStation (for now).

the "safe" decision is to buy into the platform where you know the games are going to be.. all Xbox games will be on Xbox and all 1st party Xbox games will be in Game Pass.. to buy a PlayStation for Xbox games is objectively the worse decision if you're interested in the games Xbox is releasing..

DOOM has been multiplatform since the beginning of time and internally at Xbox they had the debate and decided to keep it multiplatform on Day One (similar to keeping Call of Duty multiplatform)... Gears E-Day is a completely different scenario so the answer is clear.. i mean, if you think Gears E-Day is going to launch Day One on PlayStation, i don't know what to tell you..

beyond that, you're still making some huge assumptions.. those "some Xbox games" could continue to be smaller titles like HiFi Rush and Pentiment.. those are not exactly system sellers so it really wouldn't matter to the larger gaming public..

And I agree with you. And, from what Sony has said, their future is to try and be on as many devices as possible as well. As Shawn Layden said, it's just too expensive now. They either need to make LESS games that are expensive. Or more games that are less expensive. I think what Sony is doing is trying to hit the middle ground there by putting their games on PC, console and mobile with a dabble in GaaS (though they put half of those GaaS projects on indefinite delay). This will allow them to keep making those great and expensive AAA games like Ghost of Tsushima 2, Wolverine, and more.

MS has their big bread winners on devices other than Xbox, and I see that going forward. Minecraft, Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls Online, powerhouses like DOOM as well as a live service game like Sea of Thieves. If Everwild is a live service game, I would be willing to bet it comes to PS5 day one, otherwise within the year. Probably too taxing for Switch. They are going to test those waters more and more as time goes on.

All that said, I will always buy a PS and Xbox no matter what. I am just a nerd for video games. Sadly, I will never own a Nintendo. They make amazing games from what I have seen, but I barely have the time to play my two consoles. And they just don't appeal to me. Though I would like to try out Zelda. I will just wait for it to hit PS or Xbox 😂

It's a good thing I game on PC and not worrying on this whole console war shit.

But this whole console war shit is quite entertaining to watch, isn't it? Personally, I love System Wars.

I know right, we're entertaining, without console wars this place would be boring as batshit.

System Wars in general just got bored here. I really miss the 7th gen as it was way more entertainment. This gen is so boring, PC just makes thing easier to not get involved.

@kvallyx: I just feel sad for anyone who classifies a skinner box as entertainment.
