I'll start of by saying this is a rumour, but it's probably true. MS are in the process of creating a new Wiimote for the Xbox 360 to be released the end of 2008. They are copying Nintendo and have got the same people responsible for the Wiimote technology working on the 360 version. Basically your 360 is going to be a high definition Wii by the end of next year and all games will have crappy Wii style controls. MS have commited a heinous crime against 360 owners imo, if we wanted Wii style controls WE WOULD BUY A WII.

http://xboxfamily.com/xf/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1107&Itemid=2

If what we're hearing out of Saratoga, California is true, Xbox 360 owners can expect to be playing motion sensing games, much like that of the Wii or PS3, by the end of next year. The details are still sketchy, but it appears a first-party add-on to existing controllers may be the delivery method of the technology.

Hardcore gamers have known for sometime that it's not too difficult to add motion-sensing functionality to the 360. With homebrew add-ons being worked on for the last year or so like the Xilt mod , it seemed only a matter of time before MS decided to release their own peripheral.

It appears Microsoft has contracted the Saratoga, California firm, Gyration to handle the peripheral. If that name sounds familiar, it's for good reason. Gyration is the company responsible for the prototype designs of the Nintendo Wii-mote, which we all know has become a huge success. Most recently, the company was in the spotlight for creating a motion-sensing remote for Microsoft's Media Center.

While details are still a bit thin on when "exactly" we'll see this technology, we're still excited at the prospect of new interactivity with our Xbox 360 games. There's also no word on whether or not the new add-on will incorporate the motion-sensing technology that MS successfully patented last year.

I thought it was only a matter of time before MS introduced motion sensing into their controllers, but I really thought they were going to introduce it next gen with their new console. I never expected them to try to create a peripherial for the 360. MS is reeking of desperation.

that would be pretty sad if they just completely copied it, but i suppose they'd have to resort to something like this to avoid coming last this gen.

Desperation? Or is it simply a smart move? People are buying the wii because they are sold on motion controls, microsoft has noticed this. If people want motion controls, why do they have to buy a wii? Why is it ok for nintendo to have its virtual console? Why do sheep have double standards?

Good stuff. Its about time. When the N64 came out Sony jumped on the bandwagon and threw not one but two analog sticks on their next controller and they added rumble support. Nintendo always comes up with controller ideas that seem stupid at the time but in 3 years they become basic functions of all controllers.

Its doubtful that EVERY game will be built around this new controller though.

Double standards? I didn't say it wasn't okay for MS to have motion sensing in their controllers. I even said I thought they would introduce them next gen. In fact, I think it's the next natural evolution of controllers to include motion sensing.

However, the desperation part comes in when they decided to introduce it this gen as an add on peripherial. Add on peripherials rarely do well and it just shows how much MS is desperate to try to appeal to the mass market. Is it a bad thing? No, I didn''t say it was. Just a sense of desperation in their part as MS realizes they can't win the gen with just hardcore gamers.

aww, poor sheep, they think the 360 is gonna turn into a toy like their pathetic excuse of a console called gamecube1.5.......i mean Wii.

sorry, but the 360 already has its target audience covered and MS will feed them with quality software like Bioshock, Halo, Gears, COD4, Masseffect and others that DONT RELY ON CHEAP GIMMICKS like waving your arm around like a moronic IDIOT.

if this rumour is true, then its MS' plan to get those 8 year olds and soccer moms who havent touched their gamecube with motion censor ever since Wii-spors got old. VIVA PINATA, Kameo and scene it came out, did those games stop us from enjoying the AAAs 360 has.

Stop trying to damage control sheep and go back to Cooking mama

If it is a periphiral it won't be used in every game because it is not the standard.

At this point I really don't care about anything game related except Mass Effect 2 being as great as the first, without the technical flaws though.

I didn't say Nintendo doesn't have peripherials. Some of those were massive failures. Power Glove and bongos. The powerscope didn't have enough games. Rumble pack was good. Wii-zapper is yet to be known. That's why I said peripherials rarely succeed. There are some great ones like the rumble pack, but the majority fail.

Well, you're a new gamer so i'll cut you some slack. A long time ago, there was a system called the Nintendo 64 and there was a system called the PlayStation. It may be hard to believe, but this "PlayStation" shipped with a controller that had no analog sticks. The Nintendo 64 however did ship with them. Everyone laughed at their bizarre controller with its prongs and swirly stick... until they played Mario 64. Then the PlayStation company decided that analog sticks were clearly the future of gaming and that any wise company, like themselves, would clearly develop a controller that implemented it. So they did during the lifetime of the PlayStation 1.

A little while later, Nintendo came up with the idea of a vibrating pack inside of controllers. 12 year olds around the globe laughed at this "vibrator" and the gaming press thought it would be pointless as well... until they played Starfox 64 and GoldenEye. Then, just like the analog stick, it was decided that this was the future of game controllers and any intelligent company would implement them into their systems... and Sony did, during the lifetime of the PS1. So you had not one, but two controllers come out that copied the competition during the lifetime of a console.

Theres nothing bad, its competition. Just like how Madden and its competition would come up with a feature one year, then everyone would copy it the next year and introduce their own new feature (you may be two young to remember, but there was a time when you could play a NFL game and it wouldn't be Madden). Sure, it was copying but it made the games better and better so nobody really cared since back then, and this is probably going to be a mind boggler for some of you, GAMERS CARED ABOUT GAMEPLAY.

Just a sense of desperation in their part as MS realizes they can't win the gen with just hardcore gamers. MrSickVisionz

Umm... what does this have to do with anything I wrote? And yes, I was well alive during this era too and know what happened.

[QUOTE="TerroRizing"]Microsoft has already dabbled in motion sensing technology years ago, Nintendo has copied Microsoft by introducing the virtual console. Yet another sheep with double standards.axes03

how is the virtual console copying microsoft :|

its basically nintendos version of xbox live arcade, how can you not figure that out?

no, wiiware is nintendos's version of xbox live arcade.

whats the difference between wiiware and virtual console, i thought they were the same thing.

not sure, but i think VC is old games and wiiwares new/original content

so VC is a copy XBOX live arcade(i know this get's new game's aswell, but it's mostly old arcade games)and wiiware is a copy of PSN(which is mostly new game's with some older ones).

Nintendo was the first to have downloadable games with the SNES in Japan, with an add-on called Saterabyu (or something like that). It was a satellite-modem, and between 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM you could download NES remakes and patches for your games.

Not quite. The Satellaview (Which is the SNES thing you were talking about) was released in 1995. The Sega Channel was released in 1994
