MS working on a game already for 720 is a GREAT thing for us with $$$.

This is great news to me. And is what i know i want and a lot of others want this to. this way it keeps me from Building gameing PC's and spending much more.

I've said all along i'm totaly down with dropping $400-500 bones every 4-5 years on a sweet Xbox Live enabled graphics beast. I do not want to be playing a system 7-8 years after release with a very long in the tooth graphics capibilities. And this is exactly what we will have with the PS3. Just like PS2. I mean I PUKE:omyself trying to play PS2 games after playing a 360 for 2 years now. And it will be the same for me trying to keep playing a PS3 after getting a 720 on release.

I mean for me a new system every 4-5 years with the best online network in Live is fine by me and i know so many others feel the same.

Because i would much rather be chilling on my sofa kicked back with the best graphics and online network on a nice HD TV and staying ahead of the graphics curve.

Lets face us HARDCORE gamers want the best graphics as we can get and MS knows this. This is why MS systems have cleary taken over the hardcore market.

Whatever, it's not all about the graphics. Something called gameplay may also be a factor and is more important to most of us.

I prefer the longterm support , and the support of a system even after the new one gets released. 4 year life cycles with the last year being pathetic in first party support because they want to prepare for the next box is unacceptable to me.

Well i think it will be more closer to 5 years. And that is fine.

I'd say mid 2010 is perfect.

I mean a Halo a Fable A few Graws And RB6 games. A few Mass Effect games a GTA a RE a DMC a few Splinter Cells a few PGR's And Forza'son the 360 what more do you want

And i'm betting MS looks to have another incredible launch game line up.

With say a new Forza and maybe even Mass Effect 3

I couldnt really enjoy God of War 2, although i knew it was a good game.
Also my friends who arent used to HDgraphics are like, omg FF12 is beautiful... ok... not really.

But yeah, ppl like us arent called graphicwhores for nothing

Well gaming isnt just aimed at the HARDCORE gamers. It is aimed after casuals. And yes M$ is aiming to get casuals along with keeping the hardcore gamers. And by doing that, they need NOT to release a console every few years. They need NOT to drop support when their new ones came out. TC, you as a hardcore gamer may be willing to drop the cash, but the consumers in general will not be willing.

Everyone here will agree that MS has no problem getting devs who will develop GREAT games for us. BTW, isn't that why cows praise the PS3? Because it is graphically inferior to the 360?

Every few years is not what i was getting at:roll:

I was saying every 5 years or so. So if they release a 720 in mid to late 2010. That puts it about 5 years. And that is perfect. Becuase lets face it the 360 GPU will be maxed by then for it's graphics.

And what people are totaly not realizing that MS has been and is build the best Online there is. With 10million subscribers on Live And will maybe be close to 20-30million payed subscribers. And with MS integrating this great TV and moview service. And signing up these backers like ABC is there latest to be onboard.

You know most will make the switch fairly soon to the new 720 and an even further intergrated online service. And with the software attach rate of 5.1 on the 360 i don't see that slowing down for the next Xbox.

You see MS has been so smart in this sure yes they charge for Live but it's worth it. And they continue to give themslefs a garreunteed installed user base.

I agree but I have always been a graphics whore and while PC gaming fills this need well next gen consoles always have some unqiue games in genres that don't populate PC gaming often. DOA 4, Dead Rising and Kameo would be near launch examples from this generation.

Didn't development of the Wii start shortly after Gamecube went to market?

I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion, realisically we are a few months away from 360 being at the 2.5 year mark which is basically a reasonable halfway point for a console.

Frankly I am surprised development didn't start earlier.

As long as the new console has perfect backwards compatibility, I'll buy it for sure. I'd rather have a new console sooner than later.

I used to be a hardcore PC gamer.

I got tired of always driver this patch that need and extra frame rate this that and the other. And having to upgrade every year was getting old. But since MS has come out with the Xbox systems They just about have most of the PC games i want. Not all but most. So i kind got into building a good game room with mouted suround sound speakers and a good sub and a nice flat HD LCD. And know i kick back and relexe more versus sitting hunged over infront of my PC screen.

Many current gen games are the product of years of work and development. With the average generation time being approximatly 5 years, and with 2 years already passed, I would be surprised if MS WASN'T working on games for their next console...it would be pretty irresponsible of them. I don't see how this can be twisted into a negative thing. Companies aren't going to invest billions of dollars into an entertainment venture and not look ahead at the 3 year future. As long as a new system doesn't come out for another 2-3 years I'll be a happy gamer.

i can't wait for the next one.

i have the money and i prefer to have consoles come out like new video cards do -- why would i want to keep playing games on a system with limited capabilities?

technology moves forward people, not sideways.

I mean it's WAY sweeter playing COD4 with my wireless headset over Live kicked back and relaxed with my sub turned up with my 5.1 suround sound up loud. And my girfriend screaming it sounds like a FFFING war zone. Or i could be hunged over in my PC chair on my modest sized monitor.

the 360 and LCD has just spoiled me to much.

Who said they are releasing a console every "few" years? The average console life is around 5 years, and many games take years to develop. There is absolutly no indication that a new console will be out before a 5 year period.

You talk about the dropping support like MS does it witih all there console...but keep in mind they've only had one. The XBOX was going nowhere. It wasn't established enough and didn't have enough of the market share to justify keeping it going. MS is no doubt hopefull that the 360 will be in a better position at the time a new console is ready for release....perhaps than there will be support. But I wouldn't judge MS's tactics by there first console.

And casuals will come eventually. It's not like a casual gamer has to drop everything he/she is doing and rush otu to buy the next new console just because it was released.

or maybe he's thinking like Sony did - don't finalize design until a few months before the system is released, then only send out expensive beta dev kits, then expect a crapload of 3rd party companies to have a crapload of games for launch.

I prefer the longterm support , and the support of a system even after the new one gets released. 4 year life cycles with the last year being pathetic in first party support because they want to prepare for the next box is unacceptable to me.

Riverwolf007

In that case the PS2 sold 1.3 mil, versus the PS3s 1.2 mil this holiday, now close your eyes and tell us all the next big 1st party PS2 title coming out.

Oh wait I get it, when Sony abandons their best selling platform it's good, when M$ does it it's bad, ok man, I guess thats simple enough for even me to understand.

The year leading up to the ps3 was a good one for ps2 , and Sony even supported it after with Rogue Galaxy and God of War II after the release of the ps3. That is key. Microsoft didn't do the same thing unfortunately :(

It was kinda weak how Microsoft just dropped the Xbox but they didn't really have a choice. The Xbox wasn't going anywhere and didn't have a userbase like the PS2. Hopefully this time around, the 360 will get some support.

just think for 2 seconds there.

was the xbox selling like the PS2 when the 360 was coming out? Was the xbox MS 2nd iteration of console, or 1st?

it's all about business and what makes sense, not what some fanboy thinks should have happened.

Yeah its $400-500 every five years. But only 3 years out of those 4-5 will be worth a crap since they jump ship and run to the bnext gen to grab an edge.

So, its $400-500 every 5 years for 3 years worth of gaming. Yeah, great deal.

you either don't read posts - don't want to believe them - or flat out don't care.

put on your business hat.

360 and PS3 will have support through 2010 IMO as both will have good installed userbase.

the XBOX didn't.

You are correct but I think it's the context that's different. The Xbox owners then just like now are ready to waste money on another system as soon as they can get their little paws on it. The Sony userbase(the real userbase not crazy people like us) is still buying PS2s like there is no tommorrow.

What this looks like to me is another giant plus for the Wii as strange as that sounds.

I see the Wii to PS2 port business looking very profitable for devs.

So console gaming has become PC gaming? Have to drop an extra $400-$500 ever 4 years to play the latest games. Plus the charge of extra controlers, headests, and XBL.

HARDCORE gamers want GAMES for their console...not some console that won't come out for three years.

HARDCORE gamers want lots of quality games in all genres and of all types.

I am afraid you are confusing casual gamers, who are typically graphics wh***s, with "hardcore" gamers. Something that is becoming all too common a mistake. You sir are not a hardcore gamer. Not by a long shot.

So console gaming has become PC gaming? Have to drop an extra $400-$500 ever 4 years to play the latest games. Plus the charge of extra controlers, headests, and XBL.Wasdie
I upgade consoles every 4 years I upgrade my PC every year, most time more than once per year if you want to count maintenence costs and things like replacing worn fans and dvd drives.

When have consoles not rotated every 4-5 years? But yea, it's about $200 more than in the past. But that's inflation more hardware design time + more dev time + better graphics + more people to pay for you. In a world of diminishing returns, the hike in price is of no suprise.

um - if you're really in to PC gaming the cost of upgrading is FAR more than 400-500 every 4 years, lol.

each time new series of nvidia cards come out i'm shelling out close to 1000$, and that's usually once a year. then there's new HD occasionally, sometimes new RAM / Mobo / routers, etc.

i guess it depends on how 'in to it' you are, but that's what it costs me. and i don't think twice.

You're either stupid and ignorant about the product or you don't care what you do with your money.

Pick one.

each new nvidia series offers at least 30% increased GPU power, or traditionally it has. i'm talking about jumps from 7 series to 8 series to 9 series, not just each new video card.

i also add each older card to older PCs in my office that I use as 'render farms' for Maya. and if that didn't clue you in to what i do for a living and what that means, let me spell it out. i can write each card off when tax time comes around.

so yeah -- do you want me to mail you the mirror and you can ask the question again? or... what?

You talk about graphics and online but want a 360? And mention those that have money? No Fuzzy, you are contradicting yourself here. If this was all true you'd have a PC which you'd upgrade as required. Now, there are other reasons to buy a 360 every 4-5 years. But don't claim those and "the best".

It just means the game has a better chance of being awesome. Still a rumour though.

I have a PC with a gig of ram and an 6800 nvidia graphics card. The last i upgraded it was for Farcry and HL2.

Since then i have been hooked on my 360 on HD TV. I truly did want to get Stalker for PC But i figured it would be another upgrade i can not stand running games on med settings. It would drive me crazy wanting to be able to run it at max.As for Crysis sure i would like that. But it would melt my PC with just a 6800.

So i just kind of got away from PC gaming for a bit. I have been considering a new PC upgrade. But like i said.

I mean Mass Effect COD4 Bioshock Halo 3Gears OF War have all held me over pretty well. It's not like at a loss for a dam good shooter or anything.

Actuley i was thinking of just grabbing a new 24in monitor and playing some Guild Wars for a bit. Since i do not want to pay for WOW anymore.

Perhaps this kind of "planning ahead" is the reason why 360 fans got some solid launch games (compared to Sony), and have been rolling out AAA games all year round.

ouch.
