Sony as a whole on the other hand has continued its downward spiral posting a630 million dollar loss, and with the new problems with more batteries causing fires will probably continue the slump.

M$ losses should lessen once they start with the better chipsets and lower production costs. It is still possible to post a profit for M$ in '08.

Do you work for Microsoft?

Is Sony your competitor?

Why do you care about any of this or about the PS3's financial state, stop being a fanboy and go play games

R-Dot-Yung

no, no

and isn't the idea of system wars to "war" about the systems? Am I on the wrong board? I posted because there are sony fanboys saying M$ lost bill and it's simply not true. Yes I am a fanboy as is everyone else in system wars. Let's be realistic, if you are here and not in the system specific boards of GS than you too are a fanboy of some sorts. Can't play my 360 nor my wii right now because my son is playing NCAA 08 on the 360. what's your excuse?

Gee whiz, that warranty extension sure is great.

Let me give you some news. The warranty extension is bad for publicity, bad for Microsoft, and bad for consumers. It's extremely expensive, and, in retrospect, it would have never happened if the Xbox 360 had less than 10% failure rate.

how is it bad for consumers? even if the product has a high failure rate the concumer is covered 3 years from purchase. Extended warranties are always better for the consumer because they are covered longer.

The Playstation 3 has a failure rate less than 1%. That is best for consumers, who don't have to have their console repaired, and that is best for the manufacturer, who doesn't have to repair consoles and fix inherent manufacturing and engineering issues.

The only money they are making is off forcing Vista down everyone's throats, they get a lot of their money from school's and businesses that have bought copies of Vista for use.

Honestly that stuff about Sony is old hat. Sony has always been in the red. MS is taking the headlines for it because of the rate at which they are sinking.

And really, I could care less. all I know is that my PS3 has been nothing but reliable to me, and that means I get to play games whenever I want, and I don't have to send in my console to Sony every 4 or 5 months.

No matter what way you argue it, the fact is, the 360 up until now was made with faulty hardware. And that doesn't bode well for consumers. Who wants to buy something, knowing well that it could break any minute, be it in the middle of a game, movie, or whatever else.

Thats not very reassuring. Funny how you turn an extended warranty from "Its because the 360 breaks a lot" to "Microsoft loves us!". Its nice having a positive outlook, but being realistic is always nice too.

everything you buy has the possibility of breaking. Some things have a higher chance admittedly and hopefully those things get fixed in manufacturing. I personally bought my system before the problems started being highly publicized and so far no problems. Maybe I'm lucky, but it's nice to know I am covered if something happens.

As far as the rate of defects its all speculation. the only companies that have those rates are MS and Sony and anyone other than maybe UPS/FEDEX couldn't even guess. I remember having problems with my ps2 only i wasn't covered under the warranty. Not that I'm saying the PS2 was bad I just happened to get one of those problemed ones.

Yes its a division of M$ but the company as a whole did not post a loss like it is being posted in other topics. My point being that one division canpost a loss and the company can still make a profit. showing M$'s strenght in the market where as Sony has continued to post overall losses across the board.

Yeah it's gaming division did.....so what is your point. Last year it lost of a billion and this year again it lost over a billion. Even without this warranty fiasco it would have been close to 700-800 million dollar lose.

Everyone was saying that it was becoming profitable lol. I bet it still would be in the red next year without this warranty thing.....the sales have slowed to a crawl.

How much is MS willing to lose. They've been in the red for 7 years now right? At what point does it become not worth it. At least PS2/PS1 was successful so they can have a failure here or there. MS......I just think they are cursed in the gaming business lol.

Yeah duh. No one thought otherwise. Xbox has been a billion dollar+ a year loss for MS for the last 6 years. 360 has already failed to take the market. There's really no reason MS will keep going after they sell their holiday games.

Sony on the other hand purposefully lost 2 billion to get the PS3 out and the rest of the company is still profitable. They're whole plan is to lose money to give us the best hardware with the most features and reap the benifits by providing us with good software to buy for it. How could you essintially give us Blu-ray with $200 losses? That might help developers and give me the option to buy HD movies at no extra cost to me!>?!??!?! Those Sony bastards how could they.

It's not just the games division it includes GFW, Zune (which they spent a lot on advertising for) and a few other products. So they would have to single out exactly where the losses are comming from. Though I doubt M$ is scrapping anything in the near future.

agreed. a lot of these losses seem to be startup losses. Any company would be stupid to pull out of a ripening investment after you spent all the money to get it there
