I'm wondering....
If people are struggling with paying 5$ a month, how in the hell did they manage to pay for a PS3 / Wii / PC?
Paying for your internet is already much more than that a month...
I think it has its problems, but XBL is a nice stable service and I enjoy using it... I just don't see the big deal of 5$ a month.

those are all good points, but $5 a month is worse than you think.
after 5 years of haveing a 360 you spent $250+ just to play games online.

that + the cost of a 360 = the cost of a ps3.
it evens out, but we have games that we can actually play.

That's just it. We pay for a monthly fee for internet. So why pay for a service that offers online gameplay for a fee when we see the PS3 and PC doing it for free? Who knows, who cares. Just deal with it and move on is what I say.

exactly.. you get nothing out of the $250. No games, no content. Just a membership that lets you play the games you bought online.

Why are we talking about the cost over five years? How about playstation games that require $10 extra for online play? What about MGS online being a seperate game? And the pc, well they couldnt charge for online play on the pc even if they tried (unless its an MMO). Why cant companies charge for pc online play? Because its way to easy for people to modify their pc/software. Once the 360 has a few decent mmo games that dont have an extra monthly fee, people may change their minds.

PS games cost $10 to play online? MGS4 will include a "starter pack" as they call it so you will be able to play online with MGO with purchasing MGS4. The rest will probably be downloadables. Don't blame Sony on that that one. That's all Kojima Productions there.

I wonder how long MGS4 servers will last? I have never heard of an Xbox Live server shutting down before.

P2P. Learn what it is ;) MGS4 will have servers run by Konami. Which means dedicated servers. Less lag. And you wonder why people complain about Gears having a crappy online? Well there's your answer.

It has alot to do with the way sony operates. You will see alot of third parties doing the same sort of thing, or even some not supporting PSN at all. SEGA already has a few games that have no online play on the ps3 while the 360 version does.

All I hear is praise for Gear's online :|
(actually some complain it's very noob-friendly but that's completly beside the point.)

Uh...so Sony is dictating how MGO will be charged and distributed? I think you're very confused. Better rethink your stratagy.

Why? Even sony admits its much easier for third parties to have online games on the 360. To get online gaming on the ps3 it takes more time, money, and companies need to find their own servers. PC gamers are lucky enough to have third party companies willing to let the general public use their servers (advertising dollars?). Consoles can never have the same treatment as pcs, the console market isnt stable enough compared to pc gaming. For every Sega Genesis/Wii there is a Dreamcast/N64.

Lots of praise, but here on SW, lots of complaints about the lag.
Its system wars, theres a few youtube videos of laggy Gears of War matches. Did you expect anything less?

Haha, owned. People should really learn what P2P gaming is and why it's been free all this time.
Why? Because when my buddy I havent seen since college logs onto xbox live I can see his gamertag through msn and then add him. or I could even be at work and msg him from a pc.kevy619
PS3 web browser (web messenger)... and you can install linux if you really want those tpyes of programs, but hey id prefer a comp then using a 360 to talk to sum1, at least SP3 has full KB/M compatability for web and linux stuff

It's the principle of it. If you bought a stove, pots and pans, food, and have a gas line coming to your house, you've bought everything you need to start cooking. How would you feel though, if the stove's manufacturer started making you have to pay money to cook after all of that? Sure, you could probably afford it but wouldn't you be pissed off? It's not like they need that money from the feeor anything :|
Stove = 360
gas line = internet connection
pots and pans = cables, routers, modem, etc
food = the games
