Here's my situation:

K, So as of right now I own a Wii and a PS3. I've had the Wii since launch and the PS3 for about a month or so. I have all the decent games for the Wii and so far for the PS3 I've picked up COD4, Uncharted, and R&C TOD. Within the next month I'll be gaining about 700-800 extra cash and heres where I'm stumped...

At first I was like damn, now is my chance to pick up a 360, so I can own the "big 3." I researched the hell out of it and planned on buying the system along with The Orange Box, Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect (along with 1 years subscription to Live.) But as I've been waiting for my money, I've continued my research and the whole RROD thing is really turning me off from buying it. I mean I wouldnt mind if it died once at the most while owning it, but reading some peoples horror stories of returning them 4, 5 , and even 6 times sounds a little too absurd for me. The main reason I wanted one in the first place was to play Bioshock and to own all 3 consoles (also for GeOW2.) But now I'm not sure if its even worth it? So I guess my question to you is this: would it be worth spending all of my (800) budget to catch myself up with the 360 and its top titles and not worry about the hardware. Or is it not even worth it and should I spend my money beefing up my ps3 game collection with, for instance Resistance,Oblivion, Heavenly Sword, Orange Box, pay off my GTA preorder, pay off my Metal Gear preorder, pay off Killzone 2 preorder, Saints Row 2 preorder, etc, etc.

If you actually took the time to read about my drawn out situation, I appreciate it alot. Any feedback would help. Its not everyday I get 800 bucks to blow on videogames and I'd like to hear as many multi-console owners opinions as possible to help influence my decision. Thanks again!

(And please dont even respond if your strictly a ps3 fanboy or 360 fanboy. I would like as many open minded opinions as possible.)

If you don't own a HDTV buy one, but if you do, you should definatley get a 360. A lot of great games and more comming. Don't worry about RROD. 3 year warranty and the newer 360s don't die as much.

I own 2 360's for lan and a ps3, the premium got rrod a year ago and the elite about 2 months, BUT I got 2 years extended waranty for both, so it wasnt bad at all, dont be turn off from the 360 the library of game is simple to die for (depending on the types of games you like) but I really recomend getting in store extended warranty (bestbuy it cost me 60 bucks) and now I have a system with manufacture date of march, so I am guessing it wont suffer from the problem, but I really dont know, if the problem is fixed, but I learnt my lessen from my ps2, and I really recomend getting extended warranty for every console you buy. that the only advice I could give you its agreat system with arguably he best games of the 3, but I could really see why many are worried of RROD, but hey NG2 is comming out and you really dont wanna miss out on that :D

EDIT: Oh and the 20gb 360 are gonna be phased out for 60 gigs,I really recomend waiting for that or get an elite, no only will you get a newer version trust me when I say you need the space for downloadable content, Before I returned my elite I replaced the HDD with my premium, just cuz I had to have the extra space, If you are gonna be downloading alot (which you should) then 20 gig with only 14 gigs to work with is never enough.

I'm being open minded here, dont let the sig pic and avatar fool you.

I own a 360, and it did on me twice in the first year. So, I'm done with the 360. If you think you'll be completely turned off by the 360 by a couple of hardware failures, I'd recomend not buying one. But, at the same time, you can always risk it. Some people have launch 360's that work fine. But as far as my experince, and all the horror stories I've heard from my friends (outside of this board), the 360 has given us nothing but trouble.

That's my opinion. I bought the 360 to enjoy my first next-gen system and instead I got dissapointed. But, dont buy pre-orders man, it's a waste of money. If Halo 3 wont sell out, nothing will.

I own a PS3 and 360E - so this is not a FanBoy response. Oh I own a high end PC just FYI too. LOL

Anyway - the RROD is all but non existent anymore. If you are buying a new 360 it has a newer processor in it that is made using a 65nm technology (codenamed: FALCON) which makes it run cooler than previous versions. There are multiple ways to make sure you're getting one of the newer consoles - the easiest though not always available is to check the power consumption on the label - if it's a 175w (instead or 205w) then it's a FALCON. This virtually eliminates the RROD which was generally caused by over heating. Doesn't mean it "can't" happen but it's much less likely.

Now is the time to buy with the new technology. Also the Premium/Pro has HDMI now as well which is a nice newly added feature.

Good choices for games too - and don't forget to add GeOW to that list. And Oblivion for either the 360 or PS3.

The new 360's are great and perform exceptionally well so you should definitely get one for the console trifecta. :)

RROD has been blown out of proportions a bit it has to be said. im not saying that theres no problem, but the chances of getting a faulty unit at this stage, even with a 16% failure rate, is..well...16 out of 100 :P. really its small. its alot higher than it should be (its 15% to high) but its not that bad. even if ure first one is faulty...the chances of getting a second faulty one are..well...16% of 16% (u do the math :P) which is even smaller.

if ure still not confident enough in it then i could suggest maybe a PC upgrade? the games u were lookin for on the 360 are also available on PC (except H3...though that will likely turn up sooner or later). i dont know what ure position is on PC gaming but it could be another option that might be worth considering.

but yeah...i wouldnt let rrod put me off. if ure worried that ure 360 is on the verg of RRing then run the crap out of the console. i was worried and ran gears for 9 hours straight....and it was fine. so im fairly confident that it wont RROD any time soon *touches wood*. just keep the reciept and, if it does RROD, return it to the shop u bought it from (dont even bother talking to MS while its under the shops warranty....which is usually a year). just keep it out of direct sunlight and make sure there room for air to flow through it (that applies to all platforms) and theres an 84% chance that itll be fine.

Asking for no fan boy replies on the system wars forum is like asking a crack head to hold your dope while you run to the store.

It just aint gonna happen.

You take your chances with any product really. I know on 360 owner who has is on his 7th or 8th now...and three others who haven't had any problems.

Either way, you should at least rest assured that IF your console breaks, it will be fixed for free.

It all depends on how good your PC or if you even like PC gaming for that matter.A lot of 360 games get ported over to the PC. So if you have a pretty good PC already, you could probably skip getting a 360.

Only get a 360 if your a hardcore gamer and you know that there are cant miss games coming out for it. I wouldnt worry about the RROD, it might die on you once, but its pretty rare to get 2 that will die on you (I only had RROD once). The 3 year warranty is nice so you shouldnt worry about that.

What I would do is make a list of must own games for the 360 that are out now, and make a list of must own games that arent out yet. Exclusives only, that way you know for certain if you need it. It would be a shame to spend all that money and not get that much use out of it.

I wasn't going to say anything until I saw this I must agree.

If you don't have an HDTV defenitely check out a TV you could get a good sized Vizio for your $800. I recommend evryone a good HDTV :) Other then that remember your 360 would be covered by warranty and if it dies then you still have your other systems to play.

I hate fanboys. Let me start by saying that. I own all consoles and handhelds. The Xbox 360 is where the best quality and quantity of software lies right now. There is no debate there. Good games definitely exist on the PS3 and Wii, but at this moment, my 360 is my most used machine, and has been for the last year. I've had my 360 since launch with no problems, but the hardware failure problem is very real and definitely a consideration you should make when purchasing this system. The easiest solution to this is to purchase an in-store replacement warranty for your system. This typically costs about $50-$70 depending on the SKU you buy, and will allow you to return your 360 to the store where you bought it and exchange for a new one, same day, no questions asked, for the duration of the warranty (usually 2 years). This will help ease your mind, and you won't have to wait 3 weeks to send your system into Microsoft if your system RROD's. That way, you can enjoy the killer game library the 360 has to offer without the worry.

Hope this helps. Have fun.

I don't own anything other than the PS3. But I will not give you a biased opion here.

There are a legion of 360 owners who have the console and love it. Why do they love it? they have games that they love. So much so, some have even overlooked an issue or two. And not much harm in that. Also, some haven't had an issue at all, whatever that percentage is. My point is, they want the 360 titles that bad.

Do you? Do you really want to play the 360 exclusives badly? If so, you really have no choice but to buy a 360 (or rent it for an arm and a leg). There's only one place to play 360 exclusives, obviously.

So, weigh how badly you want to play those games. And stack it aginst the games you said you'd be able to afford on PS3 if you didn't. Which ever one gives you the most pull, go for it.

** Anyone telling you how often RRoD occurs needs to give you links. Just telling you its better means nothing. Just the same, telling you its 80% without proof is just as bad.

*** Also, if you don't have a HDTV, that's the next purchase on your list, for sure. What you've already purchased is done. You might as well maximize the experience with the correct TV and then worry about another system after.

I have been through 3 RRoDs, yet I would still consider the 360 to be my favorite gaming platform so far in this generation. It has many big name games (tons if you, like me, are not a PC gamer) and tons of under-appreciated gems, including some very good Live Arcade titles.

However, it really comes down to if the titles on the 360 that are only on that platform appeal to you, and if the up-coming 360 titles appeal to you as well.

Since the RRoD warranty covers you from 3 years after your purchase, I would not let that fact alone steer you away, as I have never had many troubles with MS customer service, etc.

Depends on your PC really. 2 of the games you mentioned (Orange Box and Bioshock) can be played on the PC. And you will get a better experience from Orange Box on the PC (mainly in the TF2 area since there will be a lot of updates coming soon). Halo 3 was a disappointment and didn't really do anything to the franchise that made it stand out. Mass Effect isn't my style of game, but if it interests you, that and Gears of War 2 might be enough alone. I had an Xbox 360 but traded it in for a PS3 since with a PS3 I could play any game I wanted on PS3 or PC that was on the 360.

I've also been through 3 RROD but the newer model has been working fine so far its been half a year. I also own a ps3 which I've only played for a max of 8 hours since i got it in 2007 with resistance. Hands down the 360 has better games out of the 3 systems and reviews don't lie. I am covered for 3 years so I can't really complain.

Just to get a PC to play the games on MAX settings like the 360 can you would need to spend over 1K. Also 360 games look better than ps3 games out right now done from comparing different titles(this was done by gamespot a long time ago). This is because they are first made on the 360 and ported to the ps3 but this however could change.

Having a high end PC is worth it. Mods, custom maps, mouse and keyboard, more updates. And I didn't say he should get a high end pc instead of a 360. I just said if he has that option, it is, in my opinion, the better of the 2. And most multiplatform games I dislike anyway, and to tell the differences between the PS3 and 360 versions you really need them to be right next to each other. Not worth it to have a 360 to get a slight edge (not always true, and sometimes the opposite) in a multiplatform game.

I've had a 360 since launch never had a problem. Keep it horizontal, dusted and in an open space and cross your fingers. The game library and online is unbeatable. Check out Dead Rising if you get one.

Simply put the 360's problems are not nearly as bad as its made out to be by the net and certain groups.
And the problem is a rarity now, I own all 3 of the next gen systems and i own 2 360s an pro launch and an 9 month old elite neither has failed, The pro launch had a single problem it got the 3 red lights once, i turned it off for 15 minutes and back on and it never happend again.

With the most recent hardware revisions and updates the problems are not nearly as pervasive as before so get an 360 get your self caught up cause its just generally known right now the 360 has the best library of games.

I own a 360, and a Wii. I love my 360, and I highly suggest buying it. That being said... just beef up your PS3 collection for the time being. There's plenty of great multiplay games out for the PS3 right now. Oblivion and Assassians Creed being two. Also, MGS4 is coming out soon. Personally, I hate ther MGS series - but it's going to be a must have if you like the series. Also, if you're into GTA, it'll be a must buy. And we can't forget LBP. Also, here's some advice: Don't buy Halo 3. Rent it first, because honestly, it's not nearly as good as everyone says. Youi're better off renting it first, to see if you like it. And defintly don't buy a 360 just for Halo 3.

bump.

I'd still like to hear more multi-console owner's opinions before I make a decision... (Thanks to all those who have already provided their opinion)

I own all three and love my 360 as much as any of them. I've never had RRoD but did have a Pro that the disc drive failed on. But I had bought a store warranty so all I had to do was go into the store and swap it out (paid a little more and got the Elite). From my experience it's worth it I've had great gaming experiences with my 360 and continue to do so, it's gotten a little less love since I got my PS3 but I've only had the PS3 for about a couple of weeks so it's my newest "toy".

I think that's a bit too many consoles.....and if you want an honest response, the Wii and the PS3 are the consoles to have this generation just get the orange box and other multiplats for the ps3

sorry, im trying to be as logical as possible without being a complete fanboy. I can not possibly see the 360 coming in anything other than last. At the start of this gen I dispised the PS3 with all my heart, but even I have to admit that it's future looks bright.

Well I agree the PS3's future is bright but I fail to understand how a console "coming in last" has anything to do with how good a gaming experience it can be. The 360 has a great library of games and whether or not it finishes in last seems a moot point as to how much enjoyment someone can get out of it.

Okay, but it usually ends up with the best console winning(while I disagree with the n64's last place.....im just one person)

From what I've seen of the PS3's lineup, it looks like it's going to offer more than the 360. Most of the 360's best title's are fps's. That's also true witht he ps3, but it has Little Big Planet(yeah i know it's not out yet),FF13 and God of war. I seriosly recomend sticking with the WiiS3 combo

I would continue to save and build a good PC. I personnally am not willing to deal with the whole RRoD issue. I don't care that it comes with a three year warrenty (that only covers RRoD and nothing else). I feel I shouldn't have to deal with faulty hardware, so I don't.

I would recommend wating untill later this year when the 65nm GPU's will be implemented into the 360. This should make the 360 way more reliable. Other thant he RROD,the 360 is a great console and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. If you like the game's then get one whent he 65nm chips come out.Theres a ton of games worth picking up.

Well heres the deal; Rrod really is a big problem, but luckily MS covers it on the warranty. However, Ive had 2 360's fail on me because of the disc drive error. That problem is not covered on the warranty from what Im aware of...Id say get one because it was a great system while I had one. I just didnt trust the Disc error problem to buy another one. No doubt though that it has a better library as of now.

But again, Id suggest getting one so you wont miss out on anything.
