I've been fortunate enough to have both a PS3 and an xbox360. I can honestly say that I don't hold one in a higher regard than the other - they both have their respective strengths... and weaknesses.

Normally, when a multi-platform game releases I'll consider which console I'll buy the game for based on the genre, whether or not rumble would be nice, or even which console my friends and relatives will be playing on (assuming online multi-player is a factor).

There have been several occasions in the past year or so, where I've all but decided that I want a multi-platform game for PS3 but upon learning that it's release date has been - uh - shall we say 'revised' I often, out of frustration and sometimes even... spite... buy the game for xbox360 instead ( not necessarily because it's better... but because it's THERE. On the retailer's SHELF)

It's laughable, I know, but sometimes it feels like dating two women who live in the same apartment and deciding which one to go out with based on which one answers the door first when I ring the buzzer... Kinda ...shallow... wouldn't you say?

Does anyone else (assuming you own both consoles, that is) do this? Am I just too impatient? Or is my indignation justified? Do you, too, just wish that multi-plats would just release day-and-date with each other?

Your insight will be appreciated...

He could've always used a lot more.

And what's with the PS3 being blue text? I always thought the PS3 was the "red" console and the Wii was the "blue" console.

I would think both Sony and Microsoft should be concerned about people confusing the two these days.

you're not impatient. if i had a ps3 and gta4 was coming out a week earlier on 360 id get the 360 version for sure. unless the ps3 version had like a massive graphical advantage i mean extremely noticeable.

Well they should... but I'm not confusing one version for another, so much as choosing one version over another and part of what's motivating that choice is the conspicuous absence of the one 'brand' vs. the other... at the very time that I want to make that purchase... which (at least with higher-profile titles anyways) is on or at least near release day...

They should be if you have both systems, and you go to the store looking for a game, and they only have one version, why wait? I also noticed stores get larger shipments of 360 games so Ps3 version will sell out faster

Not anymore, the last 4 BIG multiplats have had little to no difference and some would argue were better on the PS3, Assassins Creed, played perfectly fine on PS3, COD 4, some argue played better on PS3, DMC 4 and Burnout Paradise have played better on PS3.

Developers also recognize the transition from Blu Ray to DVD9 is far easier than vice versa, what this means is that developers will begin to optimize on Blu Ray before porting to DVD 9 which means = multiplats from now on.

EDIT. i accidently left it "beg to optimize on blu ray" LUL

Sounds reasonable... but I would fully expect smart retailers to skew their inventories toward more xbox360 copies because of the larger installed-base... having both consoles should mean having more choice... but when one version doesn't even show up for the party?

True... when dev's take the time and devote the resources to equal development the PS3 version (Infinity Ward?) can be just as good, if not even better... now, if they could only nail those release dates, PS3 versions might stand a fighting chance...

I can relate. I normally like to get my multiplats for the PS3 in case my 360 decides to quit on me again, so that I will have all of my multiplats to play on my PS3. However, when a multiplat comes out on the 360 first (which is often the case it seems), I will just go ahead and pick up the game for my 360. The hell with waiting, man.

Interesting that you made this thread, as the latest scenario for me is with Condemned 2. Like many others, I have been plenty amped for this game, being a fan of the first one and all. I decided that I was going to go ahead and buy Condemned 2 for the PS3 beings that they were 'supposed' to release on the same day. But after a week delay and now another day delay, I just said, "the hell with it", and ordered the 360 version while I was at work today.

Yes, it is only another day, but still. It is just the principle itself. I have already waited an extra week for the PS3 version, and to have them delay it again for another day just irked me enough to cause me to say "what the hell am I doing? I have a 360, and the 360 version has been out for a week already."

So, to answer your question, I think yes, Sony should be worried about multiplats to a certain extent. Especially because of the people who own both consoles. And if these "delays" keep happening, I am sure that there will be PS3 only owners who will eventually give in and buy a 360 as well, so that they can play the multiplats that come out earlier on the 360. It is definitely an issue, and to say it is not, is to simply be in denial in my opinion.

Funny you should mention C2... Condemned 2 is the most recent multi-plat that I, too, was going to get for PS3... and there I was on release day, buying the 360 version.... I almost felt.... dirty :P

I can't really think of one good reason to buy a multiplat on ps3, but I don't think sony is really worried about it.

Basically sony has promised that they will have everything the 360 has but better eventually. Their fanbase is going to believe that and buy games based on that.

LAME. This article claims the graphcis and gameplay are identical on each system, however, they say the PS3 controller is better for the game. This is completely a personal opinion because the author shows no actual reason why the 360 controller cannot do what the sixaxis can do. They have all the same buttons and whether one is more comfortable then the other is at the discretion of the user themselves and what they are accustomed to. This should have not even been in the article.

BOP is better on 360 by online because XBL is lightyears better then PSN. Other then that they are the same too.

Well maybe you can name some....Funny thing is that I played through the enitre game on the 360 version and saw NOT ONE BUG. Period. The reviewers agree with me too so I don't know what wierd copy you got. Certainly no framerate issues or freezing whatsoever which was a problem on the PS3. Kinda sad since this started off as a PS3 exclusive but ran way better on the 360.

Well when I weigh the vast ammount of things XBL has better then PSN the six bucks a month does not seem that bad. Thats the cost of one pack of smokes......please. One huge thing is voice chat. MS requires ALL XBL games to support and SONY does not. Also MS includes free headset when you purchase LIVE from the store. Few people chat on PSN and LOTS of people do on LIVE. Voice chat makes online games WAY better because you can trash talk for fun or strategize. Sometimes teamates provide important enemy locations or warnings. Mostly its a great reminder you are actually playing real people. Online with little or no chat SUCKS and for that reason my multiplat purchases are allways 360. Also I want to play my friends online and 90 percent of them have 360.

That's just one thing that LIVE has better and there are so many more things. Six bucks a month make that worth it? Crap are PS3 owners dirt poor or what?

Did you forget about burnout paradise? or is it that hard for you to admit that something is better on the PS3? Yeah ok DMC 4 for the 360 is identical to the PS3's version, whats your point? COD 4, again you said it, theyre identical on both systems. And as far as Assassins creed goes, I got the game a few weeks ago and was prompted with a patch so I guess this is what your referring to when you say theres freezing or framedips, well they fixed it so let's get past these issues and talk about how the games compare to eachother as they are now.

And as far as COD 4 online goes, it really goes eitherway, the COD4 on PSN is very active and you will have no problem finding a game, and PSN also offers dedicated servers, which is something the 360 does not. I remember playing at my friends place on his XBL and he kept getting dropped from games cause of the host quitting, something Ive never dealt with on PSN.

Point of all this is basically saying that the multiplats are near identical, so don't get defensive just because I'm pointing out facts for the PS3 that stand well against any BS argument you may throw in my face.

And guess what Burnout Paradise runs better on PS3. DEAL WITH IT

haha geeez calm down. i did mention BOP and i said they run the same. how does it run better on ps3 when it runs perfect on 360? i never saw any framerate problems or glitches at all.

LIVE is better then PSN. This is an argument for another place but its really no argument at all. Where is PSN's voice chat? Oh yeah most people don't use it and many games don't even support it VS. 360 where every game on LIVE is required to have it. Ive never seen COD4 lag nor have I been dropped from a game.

Man i feel you every bit. Multiiplats I mostly buy on the ps3 because of controller and online preference, most of my friends have ps3 so thats the version I get. There was situation with the orange box delay that made me get it on the 360. I think delays on ps3 version of games will be much less frequent this year than last year. I'm running into a problem right now with gamefly in waiting for an army of two ps3 version to come in when they have 360 versions in stock. I've got a friend on the ps3 that wants to play this game with me, but I don't know how long I can wait.

Assassain's Creed - No difference except freezing issues and framerate dips.....None of which happened on 360 at all(I esperience no freezing issues)

COD4 - get real they are identical but being that this game is so online focused get the system with much better online(360)(Dedicated servers on the PS3 equals less lag, plus free online)

DMC4 - Identical(The game plays better with the sixaxis)

Yeah Sony should be really concerned since it's multiplats are the reason that the PS3 is still kicking. I mean do they think their exclusives are as superior as Nintendo's. I don't think so. It's funny when I see people bring up multiplats like COD4, Assassin's Creed, Burnout, etc. and claim their superior on the PS3, when in reality it's because these games are great to begin with on any platform, and at the same time they look down on games like Lost Planet, etc. because they were delayed or downgraded.
