Multiple sources are saying Last of Us Remake will come out this year!

A prominent journalist has backed up previous reports that a Last of Us remake for PS5 will be released in 2022.

“I keep hearing that’s coming out this year,” GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb said on the latest episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast. “The Last of Us remake this holiday.”

He later added: “I’m pretty confident about that too.”

Bloomberg first reported last April that a remake of 2013’s PS3 game The Last of Us was in the works for PS5.

It claimed the project was originally in development at PlayStation’s Visual Arts Service Group before the studio was switched to a support role on the game.

The remake’s development is now reportedly being led by series creator Naughty Dog, which is said to have taken charge of the project following the completion of The Last of Us Part 2, which was released in June 2020.

Reliable insider Tom Henderson claimed in January that the Last of Us remake could be released for PS5 in the second half of 2022, and VGC has also heard from our own sources that the unannounced game is nearing completion.

An “unannounced remake project” was recently spotted on the LinkedIn profile of a Naughty Dog quality assurance tester, although the description has since been edited to remove mention of the game being a remake.

The studio is “building future teams for not only new titles but for the legacy of Uncharted”

During Sony’s CES 2022 conference in January, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann said the studio was “dying to share” with fans “the multiple game projects” it is working on.

Naughty Dog has for some time been hiring for its “first standalone multiplayer game”, which could be the result of The Last of Us Part 2’s delayed online modehaving been expanded into its own title.

Henderson has also claimed that the studio is working on a Last of Us Part 2 Director’s Cut.

HBO is currently making a TV adaptation of The Last of Us, which is expected to air in 2023.

Don’t get me wrong TLOU was pretty good, but already played it and have little desire to replay such a story heavy game again even with some slightly better graphic… and isn’t there any limit on how many times you cows want to rebuy the same game?? I mean it’s a ps3 that already had a remake for the ps4…

So yeah a re-remake isn’t excactly the thing that will help the drought the ps5 is in atm..

Playstation fans will pretend it's a new game all over again just like they did for Demon's Souls.

Hope it's worthy of being called a remake, otherwise if it's another overglorified remaster then it would just look bad to make PS gamers dip into this a third time at $70 rather than say patch the PS4 for play on PS5. If they're doing the same for the 2nd game then hopefully their remakes/remasters that adhere to a similar design, that's what made the Metro Redux collection great to play through again, they took the improvements of Last Light and applied them to 2033 for a more coherent experience. I imagine too doing remasters/remakes might be a great opportunity to develop them with a PC release in mind.

This game will win the award for most pointless remake of all time.

That being said a remake like FF7R or Demons soul would definitely catch my interest, am somewhat skeptical that something like that will just drop out of nowhere though… also I can’t help but wonder what the point of such a game would be instead of just making TLOU 3…?

This is completely unnecessary. The PS3 version holds up just fine. That's why I never double dipped and bought the PS4 version. The way TLOU 2 ended isn't really leaving much room for a sequel so I guess they're grasping at straws.

Slightly better graphics? It's a remake....its going to look A LOT better compard to the 2013 version. The PS4 version was similar as it was a remaster, etc.

Anyways, although it's a bit early to remake one of the best games of all time, it's Naughty Dog. All they do is shit pure gold so I'm looking forward to whatever they're working on.

Back in the day, just about every game was a new game.

Of course i love TLOU, but i finished this TLOU. This wouldn't be playing it, but replaying it, and i am not a big fan of replaying what i've already beaten.

Why remake something that's not broken or out of date, when there's still perfectly good versions of it to play? Might as well remake Ghost of Tsushima, HFW and Elden Ring while they're at it. I mean they're over a month and a half old... clearly unplayable.

Wasn't it just a day or two ago that people were talking about how many copies of GTA 5 they had bought? I get why they remake games, my question is... what is wrong with you people? Do you really not want something new? At some point even these games you love were new, right?

well to be fair, the ps4 game you're referring to is a "remaster". basically same with higher fidelity settings and higher framerate.

if it's a true remake, it could be potentially a different game but still close to the ps3 game. If you ever played REe remake for an example.

Honestly though, I'm not sold until I see trailers. I'd rather naughty dog do something else

I still adore the first game and played the heck out of it both on PS3/PS4. If the remake is legit, I hope Sony actually bring its to PC and if that happens, I'll buy it just for the PC.

Im approaching 500h mark and i haven't even beaten the game yet. And then pvp will keep me busy for a loooong time, so Demon's Souls has no chance against ER.

Don't get me wrong, I think remakes are great (Black Mesa, for example), but it's not like a.) TLOU is that old, and b.) it can be played on current-gen systems, yes?

With that said, if they take a creative approach and change things up, then I am all for it. But if it is just a fancy remaster ported to a new engine, then screw it.

If you're not into pvp, you really cannot invest this much time in it, and since the pvp is pretty much dead now, well, even if you want to do pvp, you can't. Demon's Souls is short and pretty small compared to all other Fromsoft titles. Would be kinda difficult to spend over 100h by doing just the singleplayer portion of the game.

Personally, the reason I call these games meh because developers put way more emphasis on story/characters than actual gameplay.

And it wouldn't surprise me if a remake of a 10 years old game looks better than anything released or announced on the X🤷‍♂️
