Hey guy's I recently posted a thread asking if the Alienware Alpha was relevant in the console wars.
Now aside from all the fanboy flaming, most said it wasn't, however after more research I found a lot of Youtube video's showing benchmarks of the lowest model Alienware Alpha outperforming PS4 & X1 both in framerate, graphics and so on.
Now i'm not going to take the time to paste every link in here, if anyone wants to see for themselves, just jump on Youtube and type in Alienware Alpha vs X1 or PS4 and you'll find them.
Plus the occasional Steam sales on games, no online subscription fee....and so i'm starting to rethink this whole Steam machine / Alienware Alpha thing....especially now that the price points for each of the models are
$500 -- $700 - $850......its something to think about....and I am seriously considering switching over.
Switching over? You mean selling your current stuff again? How about you just save this time instead of making another silly financial decision? The alpha is just a tiny PC. It will still exist for a while. If it doesn't something better will replace it. And since you're buying digital the games aren't going to stop being produced.
Nope actually it's now a done deal the I5 Alienware Alpha will be here by the end of the week, and thanks to the extra 50% trade deal on hardware and the full return of all my used games, I hardly had to pay anything out of pocket.
Tonight i'll pick up a Steam card or two to redeem when the system gets here and start my game collection.
I don't know why you insist on screwing yourself constantly...
Think about it for a minute, with Steam and the Alpha there is no online subscription fee, also games have gone on sale anywhere from $4.99 to $15.99, especially during holidays, most of them are $10 less upon release anyway, you can adjust video settings to tailor fit even the most demanding graphical games .
The Alpha lets you upgrade the processor, the ram and the hard drive without voiding the warranty, and it has nearly the full PC library of last and current gen and more available for download, that's thousands of games, a quantity the X1 and PS4 could never hope to get.
Ok so maybe the U.I. is not as buttery smooth as the PS4 or X1, but it's a small price to pay for what you get in a pre-built, and upgradeable console. I've weighed the pro's and con's over the past week and it's definitely the way to go for me.
I know other die hard PC or console guy's might feel differently but, I believe that right now it's the best of both worlds, or at least as close as you can get of both worlds, so i'm jumping on board with the Alpha, and if it does in fact disappoint and it ends up being a mistake, then i'll be the first to come in here and admit it, but if not i'll also come in here and sing it's praises, which ever is warranted.
