Right when IGN reviewed it I knew they would give it a 7.5. Anyone else notice that whenever IGN gives a Wii game a 8.5 to 9.0 GS always gives it an 7.5, there are many examples like MadWorld. It seems that IGN is always hyping Wii games so much and they don't want to give a game a low review becaus they spent so much time talking about how good it was going to be.

It could be that IGN's Wii reviewer has his needs met more often than GS's Wii reviewer. IGN is at least consistant where GS gives out random 9's to games that dont deserve even close. I.E. No More Heroes or Assassins Creed.

Ouch. Though, Odin Sphere was 7.6 and one of my favourite games of the generation so far. But I oddly have very little interest in Muramasa, especially since its become much more action-oriented. That and its on the Wii.

But still, wasn't it being hyped AAA? And McShea reviewed Muramasa, and Muller reviewed Odin Sphere... so obviously there must be a connection. Plus, despite Odin Sphere being fantastic, it suffered from some severe and crippling performance issues, as well as a very unintuitive inventory system.

And yet again so many folks only pay attention to one score. Yay, that's what we have become...

In all honesty though, we HAVE to go by Gamespot scores when it comes to SW ownage. (Not that I like that system) The game's actual quality should not be dictated by one score though. Every person here should know that (I REALLY hope they know that)

Not really sure what the hype was....Well I looked at the game because I enjoined Odin Spear, I never really paid close attention to the game. I enjoined Odin Spear so I do plan on getting the game just not right now.

Kinda sad if true, I will still check it out. I waited until I found Odin Spear for $20 before I got it. So I will wait just the same for Muramasa.

I just read the review and he pans the story and the "uninteresting" characters. Aside from the visuals, the story and characters was the most redeeming aspect of Odin Sphere and made it worth playing... despite the crippling performance issues.

Well, considering my Wii has GPU artifacting issues, and I'd have to pay to get them fixed (being out of warranty), playing any Wii game on my Wii would be an inferior experience, since my screen will always be constantly covered by little fuzzy graphical errors. That and I find the lack of hardware power to be quite disappointing, given the gimmick used to "make up" for it... and to me, it doesn't make up for it at all.

Muramasa could easily have been multiplatform, there is no motion controls to speak of. Why Vanillaware chose the Wii, I have no idea. It would have been the same game on every console.

Call me irrational... but I hate the Wii and everything it stands for. It isn't "ruining" gaming, but its taking it in a direction I don't want to see it go. I can't have an opinion? Or is this like Super Mario Galaxy... where having a negative opinion of it is factually wrong?

After playing the game for about 30 minutes I wholeheartedly disagree with that review score and agree with IGN's review score but I guess different critics give different scores.

Sure, why not. And regardless, I wouldn't have much interest in it whichever system it was on... considering the shift in focus towards more action-oriented combat. I enjoyed Odin Sphere because of its tactical combat... but this seems more like pure hack-n-slash.

Did you happen to read that whole post of mine, where I said I didn't like where the Wii was taking gaming? I guess not, because I don't see how having a negative opinion about the Wii, and pushing that opinion onto games made for that platform is "irrational." If I said, "I hate the Wii because its the Wii" that would be irrational. I hate the Wii for specific and already well-explained reasons... and I still don't understand how having a negative opinion about a game, because its on a system I don't like, is "irrational."

I like and own all the other Nintendo consoles... its just the Wii and where Nintendo is taking gaming that I don't like. And don't like how developers are buying into the whole "motion control" gimmick. Unless its full VR, I highly doubt its going to do anything "revolutionary" for gaming. Even with perfect 1:1 motion, its still just another, and more time-consuming, way of pushing buttons and moving sticks.

If that is "irrational" then I wouldn't know what to call an "opinion" of someone who hates on a particular console merely for not being their brand of choice. I may be "delusional" for thinking this way, but its how I think and how I see the gaming industry and the Wii. I don't like it, and you don't have to like my opinion(s). Just never call me "wrong" for them.

So impossible for a game on the wii to be good in your eyes simply because of the direction that the wii is going in? (regardless of the quality of the actual game)

Ah, what a wonderful straw man, good work you are completely avoiding my entire point. I never said anything about "quality." Merely that I did not like them and the direction. I've never said Mario Galaxy was a "bad" game, just that I hated it. Nor did I say Muramasa was a "bad" game, just that I have very little to no interest in it.

again what does the wii's "direction" have to do with games like galaxy or metroid the other m?

does it somehow magically make it worse in your eyes?

Show me where I said they were "bad" games. I can't have a negative opinion of something? I can't have a different opinion than you, because your's is right and anything else is wrong?

I enjoyed Twilight Princess. I very much enjoyed Excite Truck and its application of motion control (the only one I've come across that is simpler than using buttons and sticks)(I would play Excite Bots, but its still $50 and I already have enough games to play as it is). I enjoyed Corruption, just not as much as Prime and Echoes. I am interested to see how Red Steel 2 turns out, given the possibilities not being realized in the first. But beyond that, I've had little interest to play anything else on the Wii. I am not entitled to my own opinion?

I am not entitled to my own opinion?

again let me ask the question.

You apparently hate the direction the wii is taking.

But if a game looks interesting (and has nothing to do with the "direction") will you hate it simply becasue of the system it's on?

That depends on whether or not its like Twilight Princess, Excite Truck or Corruption. I remain cautiously sceptical about all the Wii games, even the ones I find somewhat interesting. I can't "hate" a game until I play it... but it being on the Wii doesn't help it at all, it'll get sent immediately to the back burner list before I even give it a chance, which usually ends up in me forgetting about it.

You still haven't addressed my question, am I not allowed an opinion, even if you disagree with it? Because that's what I've always ever got from you. Is it illegal to have a negative opinion of the Wii or something? I see plenty of other people on these boards who have negative opinions of the Wii, but you only ever call me out... what's going on?

you are allowed an opinion. Most of the criticisms of the wii are justified. You're even entitled to your opinion on galaxy (as flawed as it may be).

Just don't try to use the whole "hurr durr opinions" card when discussing the actual quality of a game.
