Nintendo has proved Sony and Microsoft are mere children being taught in there classroom.

First Nintendo puts out this obsolete hardware with the gimmicky motion controls that costs no where near the retail price to make, and crushes it's competition in sales, literally making billions on the Wii console, love it or hate it, they did dominate sales for the first 2 years of it's release....not to mention DS's dominating revenues.

Secondly they forced Sony and Microsoft to play catch up with motion controls by releasing Move and Kinect, only for Sony and Microsoft to basically be to little too late, people already had the been there done that attitude with motion controls.

Third Nintendo reincorporates that Wii fortune into R & D and prepares to announce there next gen console at 2011 E3, years before Sony and Microsoft planned to.

I truly love this company and i sincerely hope they do it right this time, and the rumor is they will, top of the line hardware, better third party support, improved online software and multiplayer, DVD or Blu-ray drive, hard drive storage, all of it.

They have always been the innovators of the industry and i can't wait to buy there next new console.

(Not saying this is what they are doing)

I always thought it would be funny to see Nintendo regain a successful place in the market with the Wii, steer the competition down the path, then strike back in with a nice powerful console and reclaim their place :P.

I know you're a troll but I just want to put it out there that IR is not a gimmick.

Motion has been utilized in gimmicky ways (mostly 3rd party) but the tech itself isn't.

SuperFlakeman
What the heck are you talking about? a troll, NO I"M NOT, and i really think thats a stupid term, all i'm doing is praising Nintendo for there genius way of doing business and dominating the industry thats all. So who ever supports one company in any way is a troll in your eyes i guess, OMG grow up already.

This is what I was thinking :P If the rumours are true, then my respect has gone up for them - very clever, Sony and MS must be worried,

It's going to essentially back MS and Sony in a very tough corner. What can they do?

They've just invested money and time into Move and Kinect (MS especially), which I'd argue was an effort to extend the lifespan of their existing systems and branch out to the gamers who have stuck with Wii, but want a bit of a hardware upgrade.

Essentially Nintendo are announcing the start of the 8th gen when the other two companies are still primarily focusing on the 7th. Nintendo have the opportunity to gain a solid userbase here.

For those thinking that the Wii's lack of third party support will affect it's success - then look at it practically: Developers are more aware than anyone about the hardware limitations imposed by the PS3 and Xbox.

Nintendo are offering them a solution to this which will attract attention and suddenly the roles have reversed, it could be the others who are having to deal with gimped ports.

If Nintendo announce a 2012 (or even 2011) release date, do Sony/Microsoft rush out a product to try and grab a foothold on the market? Or do they wait and continue their plans (which I'm sure have/are being discussed) but release a significantly more powerful system? Is the 8th Gen going to be a three way power war? :P

* this is all obviously based on Nintendo actually announcing anything, and is simply my speculation.

Nintendo found a niche/gimmick market, and exploited it to the fullest, but that well has dried up. Well it be able to do it twice, thats to be seen

Nitendo isnt gunning for microsoft or sony, they are after a different audience

Hope they don't forget that some of us like the non-shovelware lighthearted games, too. 3DS is already looking very much unlike DS, which has me concerned. But there's still plenty of time to branch out into other genres.

No that's not the case. They're taking a break because you risk saturating that type of audience quickly (Guitar Hero etc.), Nintendo knows how to maintain interest in their franchises.

Besides launch window should cater more to the core when it comes to 3DS because a huge part of the marketing of that device is people passing it around family&friends.

Yes you can speculate how you want, but so far there is no evidence indicating any kind of change from Nintendo's part. They've always been like this since NES.

You're talking about the Wii sales? The downward slope was expected and Wii is still far ahead of PS2 sales in terms of launch to date.

Everything the company as a whole lost money across the board, the 3ds sales haven't been godly either

Poor casuals, they were used up like a bottle of water in the Sahara desert :P seriously though, I agree, I`ve thought of that a bit before, but wouldn`t that be a failure since at least Sony has retained their standing in the hardcore audience?

Also, TC, you made a mistake. You use the word (is) but then go on to add (es) after Genius, you can`t have that being both singular and plural at the same time because it makes no sense. So TC, please, for the sake of System Wars, grammar police, and this topic, change it to Must Admit Nintendo Are Strategic Gaming World Geniuses.

Yes, but Nintendo must know that we hardcore gamers are suckers for new technology, and that we'll buy new hardware no matter what. As long as they can secure proper third party support, voila, they're good to go.

And those casual gamers they've tempted with the Wii, could be the next generation of core gamers.

A bit like the NES, yes. And they're bound to trust a Nintendo product more than the others, since they started out with the DS/Wii.

Of course not. They make money 2 gens in a row only to deplete it all in one generation for the sake of technology.

No, geniuses lose a massive chunk of their marketshare for two generations in a row, but still remain profitable throughout ;)

I love my PS3 (best console this gen), but Sony had to achieve the dumbest launch ever.
