Speaking on the official Infinity Ward forums, Robert Bowling, Community Manager for Infinity Ward has stated that the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has already outsold the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

"The PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in its first week," wrote Bowling, "making it the most successful PC version."

Numbers of the sales have yet to be provided. Link

I wonder why they never release PC numbers? Are they that pathetic?

he looks to be pretty obviously talking about 1st week sales only of both MW 2 and MW 1. I would be dissapointed if Pc gamers bought so many copies of a lame game like MW 2 like console gamers

In a post on the company's official message boards, community manager Robert Bowling states that while the PC port does have the smallest market share of all three versions of the game, that doesn't mean the PC version is not a big seller. He writes, "The PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in its first week. Making it the most successful PC version." Specific sales numbers were not mentioned. One wonders how many more copies would have been sold if Infinity Ward had opted to support dedicated servers.

And people doubt thatconsoles dominate FPS genre. The majority of PC gamers are still playing Counter Strike

In other words the first week of MW 2 sales were greater that first week of MW 1 sales ... so ?

Well I will not comment on the quality of games like Crysis, stalker etc v/s Halo v/s R2, KZ2. if consoles dominate so much in the FPS genre why are they not able to secure any third party exclusive and have to rely on MS/Sony to fund it for them, ?

And finally, do you have a point here ?

As I said in another thread: Good joke because:

A) COD 4 sold on PC between 2 to 3 millions, while seems that MW 2 still didn't reach the 0.5 millions.

B) http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/51467/Modern-Warfare-2-U-K-PC-Sales-Lagging-Way-Behind/

C) Currently the two years old COD 4 has more than 80.000 Xfire players at day that is > than MW 2 60.000.

So, I think that He's lying.

Jamex1987

I'm pretty sure that COD 4 sales were higher than Crysis ones, and Crysis sold 1.5 millions in the first months that almost assured 2 millions after this last two years. So COD 4 sold probably 2.5-3 millions in PC, not too hard to think because is the most played online fps in PC and the Xfire numbers are really close to World Of Warcraft, a game that sold over 11.5 mullions.

Your criticism about Xfire as source has no sense: -we all known that Xfire numbers doesn't represent the WHOLE gaming community in PC, but since is free, useful and not intrusive is very popular and very REPRESENTATIVE. So even in the total numbers are far away from the real global numbers, the Xfire % are very accurate, IMO.

Bowling is probably trying to do some damage control before the BC 2 beta explodes in PC in matter of days; this is a attempt to evade the panic because if they lost their PC players a MMOFPS with monthly fees based on COD/MW will be doomed, because consoles already are unable to provide a decent base to MMO games.

warmaster670

Xfire numbers and Gametraking numbers are the most accurate vision from the PC online gaming, and if you see the top ten games in Xfire you can't be wrong about the results, and allready are showing a 2 years old game (COD 4) trampling MW 2 in number of players. DSadly, MW 2 doesn't have any dedicated servers, so the Gametracking numbers for MW 2 are = 0.

For sure, both are more beliable sources than the Bowling mouth.

I call it BS. Why don't they release the numbers for the PC version of the game. They released numbers for the console versions but for PC they are not releasing the sales figures, I wonder why....

And even if it did outsell COD 4, so what? The amount of hype and marketting was 10x times bigger than the first MW game.

they probably don't release them because digital sales are very hard to track and they make up a very large proportion of total sales now. mw2 is the only pc game I have bought in ages at retail this year while the rest were on steam. (activisions nz steam pricing failed so imported it for cheap since it uses steam anyway)

you missed the most important part "Steam sales may be through the roof, but we'll never know - Valve refuses to release figures." it has been second on the top sellers since ld42 came out and was on top before that. no steam sales means your argument goes out the window.

Actually wouldn't digital sales be extremely easy to track compared to hard copies with 20 middle men where at any point something could be slipped up?

Obviously my comment was targeted to those "poor souls" that boycotted the game, yet they bough it.

Your lack of intelligence is "amusing".

And I'm also one of the boycotters :shock:but to show my disregard to IW I just dl the game, played it and once the folks got it fully working went on line just to mock those said "poor souls". This is coming from someone that owns all previous call of duty games.

Keep downloading PC games Champ, you're helping the cause. I'm sure all the freeloaders enjoyed leeching off your end, so props to you for aiding the bums. What nonsense.

[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]Something tells me its bs. Jamex1987
So it comes directly from the source yet it is BS?

..what do we have to know for sure? His word? Haha.

Since when did people start believing other people just off of their word? Nobody is that trustworthy to just take their word over it.

You have no idea how many people boycotted actualyl bought it. For all we know, every single person tha boycotted didn't buy it but there was still a lot of people that didn't boycott that did buy it.

Such a weak state of logic disgusts me.

mismajor99

Obviously my comment was targeted to those "poor souls" that boycotted the game, yet they bough it.

Your lack of intelligence is "amusing".

And I'm also one of the boycotters :shock:but to show my disregard to IW I just dl the game, played it and once the folks got it fully working went on line just to mock those said "poor souls". This is coming from someone that owns all previous call of duty games.

Keep downloading PC games Champ, you're helping the cause. I'm sure all the freeloaders enjoyed leeching off your end, so props to you for aiding the bums. What nonsense.

Keep downloading?

Downloading what? Care to elaborate at least? So you actually agree with what IW and activision did with the pc version of MW2?.

Ho and freeloading, lol, I have all previous cod games, original versions, as matter of fact I buy all games that I see deemed worthy, pc exclusives are guaranteed and multi-platforms as long as they aren't crippled console ports (hello mw2 !!).

So your argument is invalid my friend.

Poor souls,

they rambled on the forums,

they made a boycott,

yet they couldn't resist the hype,

such a weak state of mind disgusts me.

Major_Reeves

That actually happened? I thought it was a joke, looks that way now though.:P

I see. So despite the lack of gameplay changes it was demoted from PC game to consolite because of dedicated servers?

less options, no dedicated servers, no lean and peak, and a console attitude. yes.

COD4 was just a **** game in general.

Console attitude? Anyway, CoD4 still had all the spastic, mindless, action I see PC gamers on this board associating with consoles and bashing consoles for. But I'm sure that's all due to missing things like lean and peak.
