I have never overly enjoyed the Call of Duty gameplay(gunplay) that much -- its too cut and dry, too straight forward. I think its because of how linear Call of Duty is, so much so that it is nearly a rail game.
The best gameplay and multiplayer compared to what?
Call of Duty is so far behind the curve on so many things when compared to the games that sit at the top of the genre it's pathetic.
Sorry mate, Red Orchestra 2 is proving to be the best FPS this year.and multiplayer, guaranteed......everthing that rises to the top, people want to fall down just so they can support again and hate on the next thing on top.

At this point, it looks like even Battlefield is going to have better gunplay than MW3.

BF3 wins graphics, and probably scale(supposedly IW 5.0 can allow for much larger maps), but gunplay? I played the BF3 alpha, there are a good number of games between BF3 and MW3 in terms of gunplay. As for what I'll be playing, I'll play BF3 simply because I have a PC that can run it at over 60 FPS on max at 1080p+ but when I'm off and my friends are playing games, I'll be playing MW3 on X360(unless the PC version is at least as good as MW2 was on PC). It's worth noting however, BF3 has full joystick support and strafing and more than half-decent controls unlike BFBC2(I hope the guys responsible for these things got fired).
Gameplay wise, MW3 is untouchable for modern military tacticool FPS, sorry, and I say this as someone who is a pure PC gamer knowing that MW3's lead platform is X360  It's a real shame they couldn't make it a PC exclusive, it would be infinitely better, but that's for a whole different discussion. Red Orchestra 2 is pretty much FPS gameplay king this year, probably even above MW3, but it's practically in a different genre(non-military, non-tacticool[unlocking tons of attachments, ground/vehicle perks, etc]).
Sorry, no. The CoD gameplay is alright but not some godly thing that alot of people make it out to be.

I know you be joking but seriously, graphics don't make a game. Sure, the games look good, but a game can have the greatest graphics in the world and, without gameplay to back it up, it will still suck.
I'll give it credit for its tight controls, but just about everything else about the game is pi$$-poor. At this point I just begin to understand how it remains so popular, other than people buying into the hyped up marketing? I mean really, has there EVER been a game that gets the hype that MW gets?
What other game allows you to do a box-for-box ladder stall 360 drag scope? Keep in mind, when there is something wrong with a big game title, there is definitely significant consumer backlash, just look at what happened with RF3 and RF4, RF4 despite having cross-media advertisement, a comic book, even a movie on SyFy, etc., it was a major flop and sold less than 1/5th of what RF3 did which is somewhat sad since Geomod 2.5 is arguably the most advanced game engine we'll see before 2012/2013(at least until Dishonored is in alpha). MW3 will have at least 42 million sales on consoles alone, the development budget is supposedly 300 million but there's not much you can do with the restriction of 60 FPS and smooth controls on consoles.Sorry, no. The CoD gameplay is alright but not some godly thing that alot of people make it out to be.

The thing with COD is that it's a hyper competitive game, and none of its competitors are, hence why it's the only modern military FPS that has actual pro gamers that play it, with the exception of Valve games.
