try teling that to someone like my mum who couldn't even find the escape key on the keyboard. (no joke)
strange, I recently did the same with a similar setup, minus an 8800 GTX in place of that 9600.Hewkii
lol he only spent $160 on the card though
Unless one of your pieces is DOA and you have to test each part separately to see where the problem is.Jaysonguy
I've been upgrading the same system I've got since I was like 12. Not a single part is the same as the original system, but I constantly upgraded from the first level. Replaced the motherboard thrice, CPU four times, GPU 4 times, Upgraded the RAM several times, got 3 new disc drives, removed the floppy drive, got new chassis and so forth. :P

If you have a DOA part in your console you have to send the whole console back
Your 11 year old brother has money to buy those parts?Couth_
paper route and he saved up for over 3 months and i gave him about $200

yeah, well I found actually putting the thing together was easy enough. the only really hard part was wiring.
if you are talking about the power supply yes it takes some practice to make sure you did not forget anything. Took me a bit the first time aswell.

That's right, where they troubleshoot it, fix it, and send it both ways free of charge
Unlike a PC where you do all the troubleshooting and even then some parts just don't mesh well.

No, if something is DOA you take it back and the store replaces it on the spot. If your console fails after that then you get the free service. Neither of which building your own PC covers well, because after all your building it yourself

Atleast with PCs you ahve the OPTION to troubleshoot it yourself without having to send it in to get lost in a quaremire of red tape for a month without being able to play any games.[QUOTE="Jaysonguy"][QUOTE="faisal123456"][QUOTE="Jaysonguy"]Unless one of your pieces is DOA and you have to test each part separately to see where the problem is.Vandalvideo

I've had three 360s RROD on me. Eventually had to just buy a limited edition one. This one is showing early signs of fatigue as well. (Green screen). Everytime I sent it in for repairs it took 3-4 weeks to get it back because of the HUEG backlog.
What is exactly the advantage of building your own computer, anyhow?

In comparison to buying a pre-built? You save a significant amount of money and get the best quality parts if you do your research right, your investment will last much longer and be easy to upgrade if necessary, and you get some nifty tech knowledge in the process. :)

Boy that sucks....ya I was extremely surprised at the ease of the whole process, I also heard of horror stories about people going through multiple 360s but not me, mine got rrod last august, they sent me a july 07 model and it is much quieter and I have had zero problems with it.

Not solely due to over stock, it also depends on where you live. Since I live in Texas, and the repair center is also in Texas, I got mine back in 9 days.
PC fanboys have to realize that many people just enjoy playing on consoles more, and it isn't because they haven't experienced gaming on PC's.
I used to be into the PC scene a whole lot, I stopped around 2001. Just lost interest.
I now only game on my consoles now.
So let me get this straight your 11 year old brother took the time out of his day to find parts, for cheap from a reputable seller ordered them and received them. he then took the time to BY HIM SELF put it together.
Including
Took all parts out of the boxes, keeping them securely in the anti stactic wrap they did come with, put together the case made the proper modifications so it would fit the mother board, put the processor on, DELACately put on thermal paste by him self, seated the fan and heat sink on the processor clipped the heatsink on *which is hard at times the clips can be a ****)* put the motherboard in the case attached it using screws ALL by him self, put in the sound card, graphics card, ram...ect making sure to make the correct connections of the power...ect on the mother board, put the PSU in make all the proper connections, hooked up the dvd or cd rom drive, the hard drives...ect made sure to do a once and then a 2nd over on all connections, ran the bios and did all the settings BY HIM SELF, installed the OS and all drivers...ect so that he had a finished WORKING computer with all components present?WilliamRLBaker
Why not? By the time I was 10 I had built several fully functioning PC's using old decrepit parts from garage sales and parts donated from a friend my dad had. I bought myself a PC off eBay when I was 11 using my own money. When you do it a couple times it becomes second nature.

lol whatever you say man. I'll believe the TC on a cold day in hell, most 11 years hardly have the attention span in this day and age to do any thing beyond 5 minutes let alone intensive sessions of puting a computer together and geting it to work right.
you better be under the age of 15 cause even 8 years ago in 2000 it was a intensive process to put together a computer, let alone beyond 10 years ago when compared to this day and age pc's were still in they're infancy.
My first "upgrade" on my PC was back in .... 8th grade, with a crappy dell system. I believe I upgraded to a Voodoo2 or 3, in order to get OpenGL support for Quake 2. All it took was... *shock* ... reading the instructions. PC installations is so much easier now adays. Quite frankly, anyone who complains it is too difficult is either: A) Assuming things OR B) are illiterate
Scratch that... even illiterate people could do it.

Depends when his little brother got interested, its probably easier for a kid to physically put a computer together because his fingers are small. You don't really need any electronics experience to put a rig together. Spreading the thermal paste consistantly and being earthed are about the only things to worry about. Installing the OS these days is a piece of cake. Doing a little research on the compatibility of you ram and Mobo is abit boring, but if you are not choosing anything fancy you should be fine.
No reason why a kid should be incapable.
True, it's really not much harder than putting a puzzle together. Most things only go in one way, and unless you try to force things in, building a computer is really simple. It's the homework, compatibility, and potential troubleshooting that can be difficult for beginners. Fignewton50

Modifications to fit on the motherboard? What are you talking about? Putting the RAM & Graphic cards on the motherboard is like placing a SNES or NES Cartridge, it's as easy as it gets.

He probably bought a pci-express card for a motherboard with only an agp slot, and thinks everyone has to do the same "modifications" that he had to do.
