Yeah, casuals and non-gamers woulden't enjoy "our" hardcore-games, at least not your 57 year old mom. I could never imagine my parents ever picking up a videogame.
Your mom must have heard it was fun for anyone, even those who didn't play games, so thats probably why she asked and then Resi 4 would be too hardcore for that v_v
Good point, RE4 isn't exactly known to be as easy as MGS2 on Very Easy either.Yeah, casuals and non-gamers woulden't enjoy "our" hardcore-games, at least not your 57 year old mom. I could never imagine my parents ever picking up a videogame.

The Wii isn't even a real console. Various motion movements do not require skill. TkLiveNeither do button presses. All the consoles can provide challenging games. However, I like the 360 and PS3 better, but that doesn't change the fact that the Wii isn't childs play. Some tuff stuff on it there is.

I'm not try to start anything, but whats hard on the Wii?
I mean, any FPS type game is incredibly easy... and the only things that could be hard are games with frustrating controls.

Resident Evil 4 on Professional... I do agree the library is mostly full of easier games. However, that's mostly do to design, rather than controls. The Wii isn't even a real console. Various motion movements do not require skill. TkLive

The actual physical interaction requires no skill. Games like DMC3 and Ninja Gaiden, and the CIA HQ level in Splinter Cell, etc. Are mental challenges, it's not because the buttons are hard to interact with, it's because the game requires the player to think fast(Or patiently).Neither does pressing buttons. I just think casuals don't look that highly on traditional video games as a medium. They often come off as cheesy, presumptuous, over-the-top, etc., even RE4. If you think about it, those are the same reasons we often hate bad movies.

The majority of challenges in games are because of design. Splinter Cell had some challenges because of how it was designed. Rainbow Six Vegas on Realistic was because of its design. Rarely do games have a challenge because of their controls. Only fighting games and stuff like that. Otherwise, it's because of enemy AI, etc.Neither does button mashing. The Wii doesn't have a comparative game yet. But Ninja Gaiden DS is coming out soon, and it also uses "gesture" controls. I'm pretty sure you can't just randomly scribble on the screen and expect to get through the game.

Because the challange there is not the timing or strategic thinking. Nope. It's pressing those damn buttons. It's really challanging. Too bad that I own a Wii, and have a few games that actually take some thinking and challenge (Super Paper Mario actually isn't your average platformer).
She asked me what game I recommended and I told her Resident Evil 4 because it was scary (she likes horror movies) and had a great story. I also thought she would enjoy using the Wiimote for shooting. She called back later and said she didn't like it because "it was too much like a video game". I was baffled. What the hell is that supposed to mean? She later got Carnival Games and loved it. ramey70
This is why The Wii is ruining Video games as we know it.
