He could not get the 360 repaired through warranty due to nefarious reasons, so he had to replace his system. This was his opportunity to move on to another more reliable system, seeing how he was going to spend $270 to get the core system, he might as well spend a little bit more to get the ps3. Its not like he had any investments in games or anything. NO WAY he cried, that is not an option. His favorite game is COD4. I tried to explain to him the ps3 version was just as good...and the online was free and worked well for that game, but he just could not bare the thought of getting a ps3. Strange.
Why do people think that, just because their friends or a random customer in a store they work at say something, it's automatically true for all of us and we must believe it? I never understood that...
maybe he dosn't want to buy in to another system... Last time I checked money dosn't grow on trees... not to mention he'd be buying a console with lousy games and stubborn as hell.

oh, well thats his own fault for messing with it. i can understand why he would want to stick with a 360 though, if he alreadyhad a bunch of games for it.

You better go back and reread the TOS. I know first hand you don't need any links to get supsended. I said something once about downloading game illegal to try before I buy and bam, I got a 5 day suspension. Don't get me wrong, it didn't bother me. I use alot of game sites and only use this site for previews and forums. I have to many games to play to really care when I can and can not post on one site. But the point is, and link is not needed to get the boot.
$280 is far less than $400 especially if you already have a hard drive you can use on the core. At any rate, he deserves nothing but broken consoles for the rest of his life.

I had the same problem with my 360 last month. It got the RRoD and I was like @#$%. Good thing I know how to fix it. Less then 3hrs after the RRoD my 360 was up and running again.

His probably had a different problem then my 360. My error code was 0102 which has to do with the gpu separating from the board. It has nothing to do with overheating (well not totally) It is caused by the crappy X-clamp MS used to hold the heatsink on. It doesn't put the proper pressure on the chipset and the MoBo warps around the chip.

Oh wells. Your friend could at least be a bit open to trying new things out. He's brainwashed himself, like many people I know, that one thing good everything bad. He could at least buy it, try it out, then take it back if he's really that unsatisfied. Regardless of the extra money he may be paying because he'd end up making the same payment in the long term for online. I was reluctant about spinach for a long time, thank God I switched over. :D

from the sounds of it this guy is into modding and that would clarify why he doesn't want the so far unhacked PS3. Tell this guy that he needs to stop being a douche and stop pirating otherwise I will personally hunt him down and castrate him.
Unless he tampered with the 360 itself then there's no way he would not of been able to get it repaired. So the "nefarious" reasons as you so put it would be his own fault either way. I'm calling Bull*hit on this story. ;)
if my 360 broke, i would still get another 360 over the ps3 cos of the games, how would i play mass effect, Bioshock, halo and even gears of war not on the ps3, plus another few rpgs are still to come on the 360.

I think his friend modded his 360 and just download the game off the web to play. Probably modded the hard drive too and who knows what else.
But some people still think the 40GB ps3 is more... is just blind... Cause without LIVE, the 360 with it rrod would have die a long time ago. Most people are sticking with 360 cause of LIVE. So when you boil it down: 360 core + hard drive + Live subscription is a necessity to truely experience 360 as it is meant to be.
I was at walmart probably two hours ago and I looked around the video game area as I always do and noticed that the 360 that was on display there had the RROD. I found it to be pretty funny, but no one else even seemed to take much notice of it. I should have taken a picture. The 360 is my favorite consoles, but I always get extended warranties so I dont really care if mine breaks. I have had a 360 since day one and I am on my second one, but I never got the RROD, I got constant freezing and disk errors.

COD4 version on PS3 is NOT same, its textures are like crap, look a comparisson around the net, it is really vastly behind, so your friend does the right thing
The new 360s with the fixed cores cost $280 for just the core system (presumably he still has his hard drive), which is $120 or two games less than a PS3.
LOL thats so funny but i agree with your friend...the PS3 will never be an option for me... when my 360 got the RROD... thats about 2 weeks of my life that i didnt play xbox unless i was at a friendslol.....but i dont care how many times i have to get it repaired...or even by a new console XBOX 360 FOREVER BABY.... its worth everydollar that ive spent on it.... and ive spentabout ($2500AUS) on it.....
