hi, i own a very powerful rig:

intel core 2 quad (q660/ 2.4ghz)

4GB Ram

nvidia 8800gtx

2x500GB harddrives

DELL XPS720

very hefty rig which tears up all games like they are tiny helpless ants....expect crysis which fights back when cranked up to max visuals with AA turned on...but i can play the game at 1024x768 resolution with max settings.

anyway point is this gaming rig owns all consoles no contest....BUT these hefty computers are very unstable it seems.

and for ppl who try claim ownage with their hefty pc's are not telling you the full story!

my pc crashes regurarly, blue screens of deaths, games locking up, games rebooting the pc etc etc.

its not all fun and rainbows and gaming heaven!

which is why im glad to own a ps3 also because atleast when im not tearing through unreal tournament 3 on my pc (with crahses etc) im sitting on my couch comfortably enjoying a nice game of gta4 strolling thorough the neighbourhoods and terrorising npc's (without the worry of having tp reboot or blue screen of death) :D

PC and Consoles both needed! = FACT

thoughts?

Well the most hyped PC games don't have high requirements ...Diablo 3 , Starcraft 2 , Spore . A mid-range PC should do the job.

If your comp is crashing/rebooting/games crashing you've either overclocked too much or your hardware is faulty.

Blow comments aside. Yes, PC can be a hassle, but it can also be surprisingly easy experience. My current PC has never BSOD on me, my previous PC did but I found it was due to my firewall and just replaced it. Few fans have broken and needed greasing or replacing, but otherwise I've been gaming on PC for a decade without any major issues.

And from my experience. A Good gaming PC is LESS likely to cause issues than a low quality budget brand PC. Since I started building my own computers for gaming purposes, my problems were cut down 90%. Maybe it was just evolution of software and me getting more knowledge, but any case, I could never imagine myself going back to pre-build cheap PC even if I weren't gaming on it.

A. Dell PCs BLOW.

B. "my pc crashes regurarly, blue screens of deaths, games locking up, games rebooting the pc etc etc."

Then there is something wrong with your setup. Check your drivers, and If your are running Vista, DUMP it and get XP. I have almost the same setup, except I build mine and it's completely stable. I have the occasional lockup (Mass effect) but other than that, it's pretty solid. If your OC keeps rebooting check your videocard, it might be overheating.

i have vista sadly :(

i thought dell was very good especially their gaming XPS range

also i dont have regular crashes like many times a day its more like once or twice every now and then not so often but when it does happen to get the pc running again is a pain! have to go through restarting few times and then doing a launch start repair and then it starts up.

i also feared it overheating but there is a massive fan attached to the video card aswell as a nvidia fan on the graphics itself and two massive fans letting out all air from the tower case!

No, Dell could just be feeding you line of crap. Trust me, I run a Dell PC network and you think the RROD is bad? The Dell GX 240, 260, 270 and 280 PC's have a super high failure rate and interesting enough, the desktop versions look like Xbox 360s.

That aside, if you aren't overclocking then your system thinks something is overclocked and it can't handle it so it shuts down or something (hardware) is defective (usually videocard, ram or CPU) or if you are getting BSOD then you might need to reinstall windows.

i see. thanks for that i shall look into it thoroughly. i think its the nvidia graphics card to be honest. cos running crysis on max is great at first then the game crashes which is a tell tale sign of video card heating right?

Vista still has problems. There are still games that it doesn't run properly or at all. XP runs my gaming PC and Vista is in my bedroom PC. i am fully aware of it's ups and downs. You want little or no issues RUN XP. I still will not recommend Vista outright. If you are PC savvy, it's ok, if not XP is more than enough.

That would be a good place to check. Try reinstalling/updating your drivers for the videocard.

My rig dominates yours i have a 2008 hp blackbird 002 (2000 bucks total with the deal i got, i live in calgary (where they make the blackbird)) with retty much everything double yours. ps do u just have 2 500gb hdds or are they in raid 0 or raid 1? if they are in raid 1 why do u use it for gaming and if its not in raid 0, why do u have 2 huge hdds? lol

Like trying to pass warp 9.999 right? At the point of... Woah... I surpassed reality..

Your pc isnt horrid but understand that most of us dont come in here telling people with consoles that they are inferior. Most of us own consoles as well. However your system is having issues because dell sells you the lowest quality parts for the highest price you will pay and not the other way around.

There are games on the pc that consoles can never get and vice versa. Whether it is cause of hardware or because of social/business reasonings it dosent always matter.

You should go into the pc hardware section and let us help you fix the issue.
