Yeah, my backward compatible unit is dead.......Could this be a longevity issue for the older models? Jeez, I wish THEY had a three year warranty because they want $149 to fix it.

They WANT $150 to send you a refurbished unit. Good luck getting back a 60gb though...

My PS3 died some days ago too, but I sent it back to Sony and they said they will fix it free of charge even tho it's out of warranty since 4 months. Meanwhile I have my 360, PC and Wii to play so didn't really care.

Welcome to the club. Mine has been busted for a month now, and i don't really have any plans to get it fixed anytime soon. Ill consider it when FFXIII comes out. Hopefully games such as Unchartered 2 and White Knight will be budget titles by then.;..

yes, i do. i've had gone through 3 360s. it sucks. i think it is normal as ps3 don't die so easily as a 360.

I think the new Folding at Home app did it; That's the only thing different I have done. F@H taxes the PS3 to the max.

Yeah, Sony's customer service has always sucked. I had so many problems with them during the PS2 era. This time I got the Best Buy PRP and I'll just renew that every 2 years. It's easy and no hassle.

It's funny, earlier today there was a thread about how Sony should create a three year warranty and now we have a new member claiming his PS3 broke and wished there was 3 year warranty to cover it. :P

If its out of warranty, what is sony suppose to do? lol I bought a car and its out of warranty if something goes wrong I am pretty sure I can't just take it to a dealer and hope they fix it free

They are fixing mine which is out of warranty free of charge tho after i complained that hardware of that price shouldn't break so easily and i was disappointed because I expected better reliability out of a Sony product.

And what purpose does this have in SW? I don't mean to be rude, but is this supposed to prove Sony is an unreliable company? (sighs) Been there, done that. My PS2 broke at least twice, and I had to replace it about twice. But if there's anything they learned from their terribly prepared products, it's that they now build big machines that can take a whole lot more damage. My PS3 doesn't have so much as a single scratch on it, and I've had no problems with it so far other than occasional PSN disconnects(blame this on my faulty router connection, though) and some game-related problems, but at least there's no "disc read error" problem anymore for me. I'd have to say, I have to give credit to Sony for improving the reliability of their consoles. If only MS could fix that RROD thing that PS3 owners feel so insecure about with getting a 360. Sony's customer service does suck, though. That's why I went to my local Circuit City customer service and they would just replace my PS2 with a new one. That's not gonna work with the PS3, though, UNLESS you can back up your data.

But Circuit City's gone now.:( Now, if such a case were to occur, I'd have to consult Wal-mart customer service, but they're not very helpful most of the time.

you do know that the 3 years warranty MS gives you, is only if you get rrod or the e74(I think its called). Any other problems and you have to pay for it you're self, if its out of warranty.

I am disappointed with Sony; Not a fakeboy. I just feel that they should fix it because I'm a very good consumer (lots of PSN games) and I've been pro-Sony since the PS1.

If you gave a guy a loan for 400 euro but you wanted it back in a year and then he told you can he keep it would you let him?
