My PS3 stopped working. I tried everything to get it back on, as you can see in the PS3 forums. Listen, I know this is a bad place to do it, but this board is fast, so please help! Anyway, I need to exactly how to remove the HDD without damaging it. I cannot find the safety guide anywhere!

Also, my PS3 turns on it, but it just won't appear on the screen. Yes, I switched TVs and such. And blah, blah, and crap. I did all that. The green light is still on. It just doesn't go. Please help quick.

Facing your PS3, the side panel should be on the left side.
Open it, unscrew the blue screw, pull out HDD via latch.

I already did. Way too slow, and I gotta be fast. Okay, I found the Safey manual. It says I have to click Turn Off System under Users in the home menu. I can't do this because my PS3 won't turn on. Does it matter? Also, I can put this in my new PS3, right?

Im not sure if this will help you but heres my story.

I got a ps3 last year and after a while i let my bro (who lives on his own) borrow it. I game on an SD tv and he plays on HD. Anyway when he brought it back and i hooked it up i turned on the PS3 (green light came up) but the screen was blank. I tried it on several TV's and used the PS2 leads aswell but the same results. I found out that when going from sd to hd or vice versa you need to configure your ps3 or something. Someone told me all i had to do is hold the eject disc button on the ps3 for like 10 seconds (im not 100% it could have been the power button). Anyway it worked fine after that.

Its worth giving it a shot but i doubt this is the problem.

Two questions:

1: Has the Ps3 ever worked on any of the TVs you tried?

2: Do you have an HDTV? You have to trick the PS3 to get it to start on an SDTV by holding down the power button in 4-5sec to reboot your PS3 into 480i.

I don't think you can. Every PS3 has it's own HDD, so when a new HDD is put it, YOU AUTOMATICALLY have to format it. Of course, there's a possibility that the new PS3 may actually recognize your HDD, but it's slight.

What you can do, like PC, is make a BACKUP Save, but you have to do that before a computer, or in this case, your PS3 goes bad. I wonder if you dropped your PS3 or what?

I did that. It didn't work. JLF1: 1. Yes! It worked on both the downstairs and the upstairs one. I tried both and neither work. 2. I do have an HDTV. I got it working on the HDTV, and that's the only thing I'm trying to get it work on.

Erm I highly recommend getting Sony to fix it for you, it might be 2-3 weeks but at least you know your console is good.

When was it? Also, does the thing just pop up, or do you have to go to the settings and click on it? Because I got my PS3 on December 25, 2008. I didn't get Internet for it until December 26, 2008. I think a system update thing popped up. I'm pretty sure. Doess it pop up if you just got Internet? Because if it did, I downloaded it. If nothing else come up and you have to search for the settings under one the menus, then the last time I updated it was December 26, 2008. When was the Firmware update 2.53? Also, do you possibly think my PS3 is okay, and I can get it working?

Are you sure it's only two to three weeks? I live in Illinois. How long do you think it'd take to get back to me?

I'm guessing you were a victim of the growing $ony problem with every other firmware updates. The latest one are causing massive problems to many people. Here check out the official Playstation board for answers:

http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board?board.id=ps3updates

Also if you got your PS3 in less than 30 days, don't do anything to it, just exchange it to the store if they have that 30 day return policy. Because if you call Sony most likely they will charge you $150 plus tax for a fix.

Once on standby mode, hold the power button (NOT THE EJECT DISK) until you hear it beep 2 times, it should restore your PS3 display settings. If that doesnt work, when your PS3 is on standby mode again ... hit the power button until you hear 3 beeps. It should take you to the new recovery page on the PS3 (thanks to v2.50 I believe) once you go there, restart it and it will work.

If that doesnt again, go to the PS3 General boards (us.playstation.com) users over there are pros on this stuff lol. Im there too:P

If you changed video cables anytime recently you may have to reset your PS3 by holding the power button down for a while after it boots up. You said the lights come on which seems to me that the PS3 should be fine. Wish i could be of more help.

Dude, the reason you can't see anything on screen is because of your video settings. Hold down the power button for like 10+ seconds and there should be a beep telling you it reset.

No, I heard that it only works for its designated system. Thanks for the advice, though.

Did you try checking if the cord is firmly connected to the PS3, the one that goes to your TV.. It happened to me, got somehow looses, PS3 turned on but nothing. I especially know the original compenent cable that comes with doesn't like to stay in good.

If you made sure the cable connections are properly connected, then I'll ask this. Are you playing from an HDTV to an SDTV? Or do you have the PS3 set to a setting that perhaps is not a display setting on the other t.v.? Like if you had it connected to a 1080p and you plug it into a SDTV with composite cables, or you used a different connection setting that's not the saved settings (I.E. anything else other than composite if it displays via composite) then you have to reset the PS3's settings and you must connect your PS3 via composite. So, find the Yellow, White, Red cables, connect them to your t.v. When the PS3 is off, press and hold the Power button (it has to be in standby, so the light should be red before you press it) hold the power button for a good ten seconds or so. Just keep holding, your PS3 will convert back to default settings which is composite for your display settings.

Hmm. By the number of users who have already chimed in here it seems this is a bit late, but I'm going to go ahead and lock this as System Wars really isn't intended to be a tech-support board.
