It's a matter of preference. In my opinion, the PS3 version has more detailed shadows and the lighting looks more realistic. The 360 seems to have more foliage and a ton of HDR though. In the end, the PS3 version is better because it runs at a smooth framerate, has shorter load times and it also features 7.1 uncompressed surround sound.

sorry, but from ps3 demo , I can't discover the framerate is better than xb360, they are the same.

or maybe ps3 version is just a demo, still have one month developing time from release.

Weird, the 360 version is brighter for a change. The PS3 version looks blurry.

360 really likes to blast you in the face with HDR and lighting. SOmetimes it's too much. In the end it's all a matter of preferrence IMO.

Honestly, this is poorly implemented HDR, I wouldn't even call it HDR, its like a cheap bloom effect turned to max. PS3 version looks more realistic, but the 360 version has more background candy, But I play racing games to marvel at the cars not be blinded by them. Prefrence, but I say PS3 its less blinding.

Preferenses aside, technicaly the game looks better on the 360.

Someone mentioned UNCOMPRESSED sound, well it is all the same. Devs wouldnt go out an rerecord\rerender\resample all the sounds in the game. BESIDES to fit it in to small ps3's ram sound will have to be compressed anyway.

7.1 is a surrounding setup, most of the time you can imulate 71 coming out of 2.1 with a sound proccessor. It is just a praximity culculations. And btw, ive seen some cows here show there setups, and all they got are the standard tv speakers, u can have 128 vs 256kbps mp3s playing through thouse and u wouldnt spot a difference.

Seriously guys, you're really over analyzing it. They look basically the same. Though from some of the previews I'v heard, the ps3 version would be probably the preferred version for me in departments other than graphics...

Here are some quotes from the ign preview:

"by tackling a lot of the criticisms aimed at its Xbox cousin. Take the drop in frame-rate issue that reared its ugly head on some of the busier tracks - its been totally stripped away and the PS3 game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second"

"Naturally it runs off Blu-ray too, plus load times have been optimised so you're up and running on the next track in around 30 second, as opposed to the 45-second load times on 360."

"The same applies to the audio, which is now cranked out in Dolby 7.1 rather than 5.1. Only those fortunate enough to play on a kick-ass set-up will benefit"

To sum it up, smoother framerate, faster load times, 7.1 surround sound instead of 5.1...

For a moment there I thought this was a topic about "which system is collecting more dust" type thread. But I remembered it's that silly little demo everyone's making a fuss over.

Small ps3 RAM? It has the same amount of RAM as the 360. The XDR RAM is probably used and not the RSX to fit the uncompressed audio. And since the RSX is mostly used for graphics, the XDR would probably of had more than enough room.

The developers and IGN have admitted that the framerate is a lot smoother compared to the 360 when there's a lot going on at the same time. The PS3/360 demo's don't really have hectic scenes since there's only3 tracks to choose from and only 1 allows you to play against other cpu controlled vehicles.

Fruity_mixer

They're probably using the same uncompressed (variable bitrate) audio used for blu-ray (not Wav) The highest I'd estimated that audio to average is 13.8mbps; megabits. Which is actually 1.7MB per second. 30 seconds of that is 51MB. So I think it's very possible. Plus, it's probably streaming so it doesn't matter how much space 15 or 30 seconds of that audio takes

Are you speaking for folks that love to look at plants or do you think I love looking at plants in a racing game? PS3 version is obviously the best version of the game. /thread.

He says foliage is better.... I say why do you want those nice background foliage to look good, when the rest looks like washed with bleach and urinated on it multiple times...

Why care at this point? I played it a month ago and am just glad that more people get to play this great game. Oh wait, thats right PS3 owners won't buy it, just talk about how much better it is on PS3 then spend $60 on some average game with mechs and anime and lots of x button mashing.

It's almost the same as the 360 version except when things get hectic. That's when the 360 version would usually hit some pretty low fps. According to IGN, the framerate is locked @ a steady 30fps at all times now.

This is where System Wars has been. PS3 version has less trees and plants, its teh flopszors. The PS3 version runs smoother and is less...uh, bloomy. Everyone run for cover, the PS3 finally has a superior multiplat. Even if it is months later, I'll take it.

sorry, but from ps3 demo , I can't discover the framerate is better than xb360, they are the same.

or maybe ps3 version is just a demo, still have one month developing time from release.

played both yesterday:

first of all: great game!! and looking good on BOTH.

Ps3 version has slightly (slightly/ almost not noticable) framerate and less screen tearing (but still has some)

360 version has way better color (very noticable) but also has TOO MUCH BLOOM (like more games).

360 version has more grass, trees, etc.. but you won't notice ANY of that while racing.

With this game, i really think the differences are SO small, they really don't matter AT ALL to the gameplay.

With the Darkness for instance, the PS3 version had so much more jaggies than the 360 version that it really made the gameplay less fun to watch. Dirt is just great on both. BUY IT!!!

Better framerate is a part of those oh so small differences that dont seem to matter to you. If you ask me, better framerate does mater, a lot. Although I agree that the rest is rather forgettable. But I really dont like the bloom. Better colors is great, but if its so D*** bright, it doesnt matter at all.

It look the same to me, no difference...funny even you put them up together i cant see difference. Btw who play a racing game and study the shadows same time you should focus at driving..only you think of is "ah it is shadow there ok" and not how exact and detailed it is.

Better framerate is a part of those oh so small differences that dont seem to matter to you. If you ask me, better framerate does mater, a lot. Although I agree that the rest is rather forgettable. But I really dont like the bloom. Better colors is great, but if its so D*** bright, it doesnt matter at all.

framerate is EXTRMELY important to me. But the difference between both versions is almost not noticable (like i allready said).

I agree that the bloom is over used (like i allready said) .

trust me, i'm very objective. i played both version right after each other. HOWEVER, the PS3 version was the demo. so MAYBE the framerate will even be better in the final game... but there is no way of telling..

Wow, true story, I was looking at the first on the bottom and I thought it looked good, I scrolled right and I went "O__O", thinking about the second one, I thought to myself "Well, I guess the PS3 version does look better!"

And then I scrolled up and saw that what I thought was the PS3 version was actually the 360 one!

Nice.
