I have been reading your posts about this and This is my opinion in the matter. I think there is a distinction between hardcore and casual.

I think hardcore is when people play game that has Highscores, ranks, levels, skills, character upgrades, or anything to that effect. A casual game would be like a "minigame" type such as flash games on the internet, mario party, or games made by third party companies like disney or pixar. There are some that are in the middle such as Super Smash Bros Brawl or Racing games that you can play casually or Hardcore. With hardcore everytime you play you are working towards one goal such as getting the top rank, top skill, top level...etc and that goal never changes.

Casual game has one goal everytime you play which is to win the current game you dont care about the next game you will play or the game before. So yes I think there is a distinction but a pretty obvious one.

edit: better?

Maybe if u did paragraphs instead of a mini wall more people would read it. Also: just reply to one of the topics that already exist dont make a new one, the mods will lock it as a fad thread. however, on topic. both threads are tossed around by fanboys to justify their own personal likes/dislikes of games/genres so the whole argument is pointless

Hard core games enjoy video games that require skill, and also enjoy games with good plot. IE starcraft

Casual gamers enjoy games that require none and have no plot. IE Wii sports

casual gamERS are people who enjoy pick up and play games, (motorstrom, uncharted) and play games during some of their free time, about 1-3 hours a week, and just play for fun, dont care about trophies or highscores not their #1 hobby

Hardcore gamers enjoy all types of games even games with high learning curves, and play for 5, 10+ hours a week, and play to get hig score and rankings etc..and play for most of their free time, its their #1 hobby

Thats what i think, i consider myself a casual gamer

Like I said in the other thread thats now locked *hint hint to the TC of this thread and the other casual debate thread*

Any thing! ANY THING in life can be abused to the point its unhealthy for you, just like ANY Game can be played for hours a day, days a week months on end to the hardcore but this does not change the defintion.

Casual games are easy, and ment to reach as many people as possibly across all age groups and wants in a game.

Hardcore games are hard, and ment for a select few that want a certain type of game.

thats not right. Hard does not mean M, blood, halo. BS. A hardcore gamer plays games longer than whats normal. Normal being casual. Giving you a time i cannot say. But Casual games are not allways easy, family friendly. Your definition is being Stereotypical.

The vast majority of "hardcore" console games - or for that matter games in general.

Are designed for CASUAL GAMERS.

*shock horror*

Do people really think *insert title e.g.* GeoW is 'hardcore'?

Well, casual games are those that are easy to get into. Hence, the reason why they are popular. They're usually games that you can pick up and play. No or little story and character development are involved to hasten the gameplay.

Casual gaming companies want to make easy money, and sell out to the mainstream.

Hardcore gaming caters to a small group of gamers that rely on their known franchises that score over 8/10

Both sides have their flaws

you are so right all games out there that sell loads are "casual"

and you can base a game on a single score of a game to being "hardcore" because we all know everyone scores game exactly the same, and only known games can be classed as "hardcore" as no new games are like that thus selling millions, and no franchise games are "casual"

you made lots of sense there thank you for clearing that huge debate up for me.

I play games, tonnes of games, but I don't sepnd too long on one game, I don't get rediculously skilled in one game too quickly and get bored of it. i am casual in that respect, I play for FUN! I am hardcore because I built a PC for games and have 2 consoles this gen. As well as portables whiched sucked so I traded :D

But you made generalisations about what one is, here is a definition for every one a "hardcore" gamer think they are some how better than those they label "casual" gamers and blame them for bad games being released.
