To start i would just like to say anyone who plays a game because of graphics alone is totally brainwashed by todays marketing propaganda. I dont find it hard to believe thought tbh, i mean Hitler convinced Germans to kill Jewish people easily enough, so i dont doubt that Phil Harrison can make you like rubbish games. Try to look at it from a gamers view not a fanboys view when you read this review.
Firstly, If you buy one console, its not against the law to have another one, so dont defend your one 'precious' console like its the only thing you will ever have in your life. Secondly, If i want good graphics ill go outside atleast thats fun, not just "OMG that gun looks even more like a gun than the 30 sequals to this i played on the PS2" and "Did you see the textures on that tree, thats next gen man, next gennnn gaming is here". Oh and one thing, i say all this from the view of the present and someone who owns all these consoles, so im no fanboy, i know the PS3 will get some killer applications, but the way you talk about how great it is at the moment comapired to the other systems is just wrong. You take graphical power to far as a selling point, and just because you payed more for your console even the slightest tiny difference means the world to you, who cares about a few pixels or a tiny tree you can see 7 miles away with slightly more polygons >_> take some upcoming 360 games for example, mass effect, halo 3, bioshock and even current games such as gears that look great. Even upcoming games for the Wii like Galaxy, Brawl and Metroid 3 look good, do you really need more than that to have FUN, because thats what its all about, i dont waste time with a game for something to look at, but something to have fun with with especially with friends. And can someone tell me the last time Sony used ACTUAL gameplay footage to demonstate a game? Motorstorm looks nothing like it shows, and if Killzone 2 looks like the trailer showed in 2005 i will eat my PS3 and post a video on youtube for you. They show all there gameplay footage run on a PS3 but computer generated.
If i want gameplay and innovation go play the 360 or Wii at the moment because the PS3 is nowhere close for awhile yet. If you want online it will always be 360 because they actually try to let people play games together smoothly and without problems even if it does cost a small amount each year (PS. it costs about the same as a game for a years subscription iirc and the hours of fun you can have with online games and the added playability > 1 game which you playthrough and add to your collection). Enjoy Xbox Live because if you get a Playstation 3, there is nothing set in stone that online play will always be there. It is costing Sony to run it and at the first sign of danger it will go completely.
If you want to waste money on something that needs time to develop and you want it to gather some dust and look (i will admit) great next to your 5000" HD TV set upz instead of buying it cheaper when its becomes better and more playable down the line then suit yourself. But dont talk about how great it is and the stuff inside it at the moment, because who really cares until you can put a great game inside it. If you want specs to impress people go get a pc, they have good games to ive heard, and have been more powerful than the PS3 is for quite awhile >_> The panasonic R.E.A.L made promises like the ps3 has for its generation and how many of you even now what it is now?
Did i mention Sony use emulation software instead of a dedicated chip. This means that not all games for PS2 will work, and many that do have issues such as stuttering and poor picture quality. I wont go into detail about some of the games i tested, seeing games like FFX on the PS3 is sacralidge. You also need to buy adapters for PS2 memory cards and controllers. As well, PS2 saves files saved on the PS3 cannot be transferred back onto a memory card. So the backwards compatibility is very poor in terms of both hardware and games. So not only does it have no games atm, you cant even use your old ones on it, so you have to set the ol PS2 up alongside it. Just a sidenote, it wasnt that hard for the Wii and 360 to make it work with old games.
FLOw is just a screensaver at best, the Wii VC imo dominates downloadable content due to old Nintendo, sega, turbographix games ect being perfect for this sort of mini download. All classics and everyone can find something they loved or have fun with there. Also if you want to use your console for internet browsing, the new Wii Opera browser is fast, easy to use and wii connect is like the Ps3 a free service. The PS3 is not completley rubbish tho because you can download ps1 games to your psp through the ps3 download service. BUT, playstation online is SLOW S-L-O-W, when i play Wii VC games i get the old feeling of playing a good game from my past, likewise when i go on playstation online, i get the good old feeling of 28.8 kb dial up. (sarcasm)
The controller is terrible. It feels cheap. Very, very very cheap. I went through three PS2 controllers (and they were of a better quality) and I can't see this one lasting a year. What they have done is to take the best bit from the Wii controller (motion sensitive) and try to mimic one of the best features of the 360 controller (trigger buttons) and shove them into a controller WITHOUT the rumble shock - which the previous controllers had. The end result is a mish mash - hotch pot of a controller that isn't very comfortable to use. The trigger buttons feel like they will 'ping' off at some point when I'm playing a 'shoot-em-up' game. You really have to feel the thing to see what I mean, it's just so bad. The motion sensitive aspect, smacks of a 'panic reaction' to the Wii, and it's not utilised in a lot of games. Why do I want to wave my control pad around in the air when I'm sitting down anyway?? But the worst thing of all is the lack of a rumble feedback when you are playing a game. It completely disconnects you from the experience. It's not like the 360 when playing F.E.A.R., and a creature jumps out at you from nowhere - you get the rumble - it makes you feel as if you are there - part of the action. There is nothing like this in the PS3. Really disappointing.
OH and BTW i did some research and heres the place PS3 got Home from www.habbohotel.com (with better graphics ofc because its the PS3) umm chat, make private rooms and customize them "great" and its free to sign up, so join there and save $600 im sure theres more people on there than people with Ps3's anyway so its a better community for you.
Ask yourself if you want a games console or media centre. Great, blue ray!!! i really need that, every PS3 fanboy post to follow, i dont mind your opinions, but please tell me how many blue ray movies you have at home after you show your opinion so we can get a view. Ive heard its quite a niche market. Ill start, i have none.
BTW im not a Fanboy im sure the PS3 will get some killerapps if games like FFXIII are staying with the PS3 and are the **** ^_^ but atm accept that the playstation is just a blue ray player with 10 year old codecs, (you do realise that even though it can hold more data, it compresses it a lower rate so it takes up more space and is slower and more prone to damage as it puts its data closer to the surface of the disk?) and not a gaming machine. I see comments such as the Ps3 being "3" or "8" times more powerful than the xbox 360 or "wii is kiddie lolol you suck and you will never have gf if you have Wii" but until the PS3 is actually up and running properly all these comments are as worthless as the console itself is at present. I think the PS3 will eventually find its place, but theres 3 consoles, not one, be a gamer, not a fanboy to Sony's mindgames.
