To start i would just like to say anyone who plays a game because of graphics alone is totally brainwashed by todays marketing propaganda. I dont find it hard to believe thought tbh, i mean Hitler convinced Germans to kill Jewish people easily enough, so i dont doubt that Phil Harrison can make you like rubbish games. Try to look at it from a gamers view not a fanboys view when you read this review.

Firstly, If you buy one console, its not against the law to have another one, so dont defend your one 'precious' console like its the only thing you will ever have in your life. Secondly, If i want good graphics ill go outside atleast thats fun, not just "OMG that gun looks even more like a gun than the 30 sequals to this i played on the PS2" and "Did you see the textures on that tree, thats next gen man, next gennnn gaming is here". Oh and one thing, i say all this from the view of the present and someone who owns all these consoles, so im no fanboy, i know the PS3 will get some killer applications, but the way you talk about how great it is at the moment comapired to the other systems is just wrong. You take graphical power to far as a selling point, and just because you payed more for your console even the slightest tiny difference means the world to you, who cares about a few pixels or a tiny tree you can see 7 miles away with slightly more polygons >_> take some upcoming 360 games for example, mass effect, halo 3, bioshock and even current games such as gears that look great. Even upcoming games for the Wii like Galaxy, Brawl and Metroid 3 look good, do you really need more than that to have FUN, because thats what its all about, i dont waste time with a game for something to look at, but something to have fun with with especially with friends. And can someone tell me the last time Sony used ACTUAL gameplay footage to demonstate a game? Motorstorm looks nothing like it shows, and if Killzone 2 looks like the trailer showed in 2005 i will eat my PS3 and post a video on youtube for you. They show all there gameplay footage run on a PS3 but computer generated.

If i want gameplay and innovation go play the 360 or Wii at the moment because the PS3 is nowhere close for awhile yet. If you want online it will always be 360 because they actually try to let people play games together smoothly and without problems even if it does cost a small amount each year (PS. it costs about the same as a game for a years subscription iirc and the hours of fun you can have with online games and the added playability > 1 game which you playthrough and add to your collection). Enjoy Xbox Live because if you get a Playstation 3, there is nothing set in stone that online play will always be there. It is costing Sony to run it and at the first sign of danger it will go completely.

If you want to waste money on something that needs time to develop and you want it to gather some dust and look (i will admit) great next to your 5000" HD TV set upz instead of buying it cheaper when its becomes better and more playable down the line then suit yourself. But dont talk about how great it is and the stuff inside it at the moment, because who really cares until you can put a great game inside it. If you want specs to impress people go get a pc, they have good games to ive heard, and have been more powerful than the PS3 is for quite awhile >_> The panasonic R.E.A.L made promises like the ps3 has for its generation and how many of you even now what it is now?

Did i mention Sony use emulation software instead of a dedicated chip. This means that not all games for PS2 will work, and many that do have issues such as stuttering and poor picture quality. I wont go into detail about some of the games i tested, seeing games like FFX on the PS3 is sacralidge. You also need to buy adapters for PS2 memory cards and controllers. As well, PS2 saves files saved on the PS3 cannot be transferred back onto a memory card. So the backwards compatibility is very poor in terms of both hardware and games. So not only does it have no games atm, you cant even use your old ones on it, so you have to set the ol PS2 up alongside it. Just a sidenote, it wasnt that hard for the Wii and 360 to make it work with old games.

FLOw is just a screensaver at best, the Wii VC imo dominates downloadable content due to old Nintendo, sega, turbographix games ect being perfect for this sort of mini download. All classics and everyone can find something they loved or have fun with there. Also if you want to use your console for internet browsing, the new Wii Opera browser is fast, easy to use and wii connect is like the Ps3 a free service. The PS3 is not completley rubbish tho because you can download ps1 games to your psp through the ps3 download service. BUT, playstation online is SLOW S-L-O-W, when i play Wii VC games i get the old feeling of playing a good game from my past, likewise when i go on playstation online, i get the good old feeling of 28.8 kb dial up. (sarcasm)

The controller is terrible. It feels cheap. Very, very very cheap. I went through three PS2 controllers (and they were of a better quality) and I can't see this one lasting a year. What they have done is to take the best bit from the Wii controller (motion sensitive) and try to mimic one of the best features of the 360 controller (trigger buttons) and shove them into a controller WITHOUT the rumble shock - which the previous controllers had. The end result is a mish mash - hotch pot of a controller that isn't very comfortable to use. The trigger buttons feel like they will 'ping' off at some point when I'm playing a 'shoot-em-up' game. You really have to feel the thing to see what I mean, it's just so bad. The motion sensitive aspect, smacks of a 'panic reaction' to the Wii, and it's not utilised in a lot of games. Why do I want to wave my control pad around in the air when I'm sitting down anyway?? But the worst thing of all is the lack of a rumble feedback when you are playing a game. It completely disconnects you from the experience. It's not like the 360 when playing F.E.A.R., and a creature jumps out at you from nowhere - you get the rumble - it makes you feel as if you are there - part of the action. There is nothing like this in the PS3. Really disappointing.

OH and BTW i did some research and heres the place PS3 got Home from www.habbohotel.com (with better graphics ofc because its the PS3) umm chat, make private rooms and customize them "great" and its free to sign up, so join there and save $600 im sure theres more people on there than people with Ps3's anyway so its a better community for you.

Ask yourself if you want a games console or media centre. Great, blue ray!!! i really need that, every PS3 fanboy post to follow, i dont mind your opinions, but please tell me how many blue ray movies you have at home after you show your opinion so we can get a view. Ive heard its quite a niche market. Ill start, i have none.

BTW im not a Fanboy im sure the PS3 will get some killerapps if games like FFXIII are staying with the PS3 and are the **** ^_^ but atm accept that the playstation is just a blue ray player with 10 year old codecs, (you do realise that even though it can hold more data, it compresses it a lower rate so it takes up more space and is slower and more prone to damage as it puts its data closer to the surface of the disk?) and not a gaming machine. I see comments such as the Ps3 being "3" or "8" times more powerful than the xbox 360 or "wii is kiddie lolol you suck and you will never have gf if you have Wii" but until the PS3 is actually up and running properly all these comments are as worthless as the console itself is at present. I think the PS3 will eventually find its place, but theres 3 consoles, not one, be a gamer, not a fanboy to Sony's mindgames.

So your saying points are your main motivation? Wow here's me thinking people actually play games because they enjoy them, guess thing's have changed. So what happens when you get to 100 billion gazillion points? Will it have enhanced your gaming experience?

i've been a high-end hardcore pc gamer for the last seven years, but i have ten years of console gaming experience prior to that - and i agree with pretty much everything you have to say - i own a ps1, 2 and gamecube and am probably going to get a 360 sometime this year (for mass effect and gta4), but since i'm primarily a pc gamer, i'm pretty objective as far as consoles are concerned

the ps3 is a very powerful beast - it's just a swine to develop for, and it'll take a long time for devs to really get into the flow of it, and put out some quality games... this is the major flaw of the ps3 - sony's inhouse stuff has never been good at putting out killer games - barring a few exceptions, it was always the third party stuff on the ps1 and 2 that made them such awesome consoles

but the games support just isn't there with the ps3 - i'm sure it will be, by the late-life of the machine, once devs finally get to grips with the technology and are willing to spend time and resources developing games for the machine, but right now - it just doesn't have the real third party support needed to compete

and that's the thing, you can have as many bells and whistles as you like, if the games support isn't there - the machine is nothing... so far the ps3 has seen nothing but serialised franchise sequels - the fifas and nhls and maddens - and nothing really good, no real machine-carrying stuff... and what good stuff there is out there is better on the 360, and even better on the pc

the utility stuff is all good and well, but really it's a poor man's pc - and a very expensive one too, and since an ever-growing number of homes has at least 1 pc these days, the ps3 is a large question mark as far as i'm concerned

now, sony has sold a hundred million units twice, so i'm more than confident that they know what they're doing - and things will gradually change over the next few years, but right now, the ps3 is not worth owning at all

unless, of course, you want to play games with 2007/2008 in the title - then it's fine...

I dont think he is - he obviously is giving an un-bias POV. Is it more that sony lovers are not realising or liking the reality of his words? :P

Its simple. Nearly all ps3 games will be available on the 360. If your left with the choice of choosing between the 360 or ps3 versions of SC:double agent (for example), achievements add a hell of alot of incentitve. Its not a points thing, it just adds replay value. I own both consoles btw.

I disagree with what you are saying about the PS3. ATM I am having a great time with my PS3 and its the 360 that is collecting dust. I actually like the PS3 controller, its almost the same as the PS2 one so its good for me. People complain its too light, It doesn't bother me at all. I don't even care about rumble either, I barely notice it when I'm playing a game anyway. Everyone that says the 360 has better games, that is a matter of opinion. It has MORE games which is to be expected, with the majority being shooters. If you don't like shooters, then the 360 doesn't have a ton of games your gonna like. I am enjoying every game I have for my PS3, while on the contrary, I am pretty much done and over the games I have for the 360. Of course that will change once Mass effect and company come out, but until then, its all PS3 for me.

As far as hardware , you can tell the PS3 is a more expensive unit than the 360 because the build quality is greater. it is QUIET and I have not had an issue with it freezing or anything. The 360 however has frozen on me a few times, but has been pretty good other than that, but it is LOUD. I find the sound quality coming out of my PS3 is better than the 360 on my surround sound. I use the same optical cable for both so its not a case of one has a better cable. Possibly the devs of the PS3 games used better sound in their games than the 360, but I can tell the difference none the less.

If you think MS isn't using mind games as well, you ARE a fanboy. ALL companies do this, its called marketing. MS has exxagerated just as much as Sony has. Both complanies are looking to nickle and dime their customers, just MS is a worse offender of it.

Blu-ray is awesome!! lets get that out of the way. I am glad they included it. I wish the 360 had a built in HD-DVD drive. The movies look fantastic and sound incredible.

PS3 is a total package. it is a Gaming machine/Bluray player/computer. I like that I am getting my moneys worth. The 360 is geared towards online gaming. Although I do like shooters, you need more and the 360 doesn't have much more than that right now. Only a handful of games coming out for it are not shooters which is a shame because the 360 is a very powerful system. They can be doing so much more than just shooters.

for the Wii fans, I will be buying one as well when i can find one. it is definitely a fun system. My friends and I have a blast with Wii sports. and that is my unbiased opinion of things.

in the future do not post an essay on why you didn't like the console just say it sucks cause thats all that matters. In the first years of a system no one can forsea a gran Tursimo or a MGS or a Zelda WW or a Kingdom hearts these are all titles that came after the 2 year mark an when first buying the systems no one knew they were coming. people saying oh this game might be good hopefully it's good(like lair,MGS4,FF13 DMC4 etc etc) the truly great games we have not even heard of yet in fact some might just be starting development. Assuming one system libary is better than the other just on the first years lineup means you don't know much about the console world. when i bought my N64 i had no idea about FF7 or Xenoears or Chrono cross i was swearing up and down that the n64 would end with better games to bad i got my opinion from the first year games announced and none of the games i listed were announced the first year of the 64. we don't know what games are coming in the future what new franchises and if Bioware didn't lose the starwars lisence they wouldn't be making Mass Effect they would be maing Kotor3 but **** happens and you never know what games come out in the future sine there not announced yet. we only know whats coming this year and thats it. if in 3 years this amazing game come out for the PS3 that causes everyone to buy PS3 would anyone have known this? no they will not.

Even upcoming games for the Wii like Galaxy, Brawl and Metroid 3 look good, do you really need more than that to have FUN, because thats what its all about, i dont waste time with a game for something to look at, but something to have fun with with especially with friends. Knewl2

You should have started and ended there. Every thing else you say is just a contradiction and holds no ground. W/E i say >_>  Im going back to play GunBound.

if Killzone 2 looks like the trailer showed in 2005 i will eat my PS3 and post a video on youtube for you Knewl2

Quoted and saved..........just in case:D

So your saying points are your main motivation? Wow here's me thinking people actually play games because they enjoy them, guess thing's have changed. So what happens when you get to 100 billion gazillion points? Will it have enhanced your gaming experience?

Its simple. Nearly all ps3 games will be available on the 360. If your left with the choice of choosing between the 360 or ps3 versions of SC:double agent (for example), achievements add a hell of alot of incentitve. Its not a points thing, it just adds replay value. I own both consoles btw.

Yeah they sure will be! Games like Resistance, Resistance 2, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Gran Turismo 5, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, God of War 3, Calling All Cars, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Vs. XIII, Lair, Killzone, Eight Days, White Knight Story, Tekken 6, Team Ico's next game, Bioware's next game (PS3 exclusive), Little Big Planet, etc, etc, etc will all be available on the 360! :|

Not being funny but there will always be exclusive releases for different consoles. the 360 has games that the PS3 will never have and vice versa...get over it already...whats the agro for??

Not being funny but there will always be exclusive titles to every console, so whats the issue here? imho i have always hated the FF series, thats just IMHO though:D Metal Gear will be good. But the rest.....meh. The others ont eh PS3 are already out on the 360obviously so not really much id be looking forward to as a PS3 owner. But whatever. :D

Just because he says hes unbiased doesnt mean he really is. "360 ftw".....very proffesional argument. He didn't even go over the PS3 games. Resistance is fantastic, Motorstorm is fun, and the PS3 shares many of the 360's hit games like GRAW2, R6:Vegas, and Oblivion. And contrary to your argument, graphics do matter. Games like Gears would have gone nowhere without its visuals. i own it, it's been collecting dust ever since i got passed its amazing textures. So im a graphic whore now right? Gears is collecting dust, and im still playing Counter-Strike, what does that say?

I don't own a PS3, i have a 360/ps2/gc/xbox. the only one i play is PS2, because the 360 current state offers nothing more then prettier graphics and medicore gameplay. Why do i need to play R6:Vegas, GRAW 2, and GeOW when I have CS 1.6? Those 3 games (the top shooters on the 360) are all the same game. TEH OMG!!! YOU CAN DUCK BEHIND COVER!!!!BEST GAME EVER!!!AMAZING GAMEPLAY!!!!! no thanks

You should return it and get something you like, instead of complaining about it.  I always though PC and 360 was an odd/poor pair anyways, as a lot of the games are similar aside from a few exclusives, and even then, the genres are similar too.

TBH- these system wars are great for communities like Gamespot  because it leads to open ended content for their forums. The reality is everyone's preferene is different. Everyone likes different types of games and thats why the console vs console bashing will always be apparent. The TC is stating his opinions and i think they were quite fair TBH. He did say, the PS3 will eventually get there, but i think he's right in saying that it hasn't reached the standard/quality of gaming that the 360 has. BUT - thats ok, because i dont think anyone can expect it to so shortly after its release. There's no point in denying this because the 360 has had a 1+year head start!! so it is bound to have an overall quality of better games...its kind of a no brainer.

You cant call him a MS fanboy or an xbox fanboy for stating his opinions now can you?

Personally, i will only get a PS3 when there are more then 2 decent games out for it. Im not going to buy one now and rebuy all of the games that are releasing shortly that i already have for my 360....thats just a con. If i was going to buy one, it would be in a year or 2 when the good games for the PS3 have arrived. And i mean at least 10 good games.

How do you know if your going to enjoy something if you dont buy it? :?

Trying out a console in a shop/round a mates house for maybe 2hrs is alot different than having the experiencee in your own bedroom for a couple months.

Yeah, he spent $600.  That earns him the right to complain if that's how he feels.  And BTW, Sony listens to these complaints, so statements such as the OP's may actually help improve the console over time... they did, after all, decide to bring back rumble.  Or did they?  Sony's PR is pretty confusing.

What's wrong with wanting great graphics?  I remember when GoW first came out and we went over to a friends house.  He had the 360 hooked up to this 52"-er and as soon as you walk in the room, all you hear is "Wow".  Every person that walked into that room said "Wow".  They weren't blown by the amazing game play or the fact that you shoot at things.  they were blown by the fact that the monsters looked real (with a tv that big and how he had it positioned on the wall, almost too real to me).

The average person and even gamers are first intrigued by the graphics.  If you aren't interested in the graphics, play RE on your PS2 then.  You're still shooting at monsters.  Or rather, play Starfox for PS.  Yeah games now-a-days have a lot more depth to the game play, but that doesn't make them better.  I still throw on my Mario 3 for Nintendo and get very involved.

I agree that he has the right to complain about his purchases, but he's def biased.  We're all biased (except for some of you PC gamers).

I dont think anyone has said that there is anything wrong with wanting great graphics:? I believe what the TC was getting at was that great graphics isnt all that the PS3 should be based on at the minute. If im wrong please correct me, because i cant be bothered to go back one page :P

i absolutely loved the splinter cell series, REsi4, GTA:SA, and Shadow of the colossus on my PS2.  i was always slightly bummed that xbox owners got the best SC games with bigger maps and stuff, but none the less enjoyed playing on my ps2.

i wasnot planning on getting a next gen console at all.   however when i saw the gameplay footage of RS:vegas and  the "mad world" trailer for GoW, then when SC conviction was announced as a 360 Exclusive i made up my mind, i wanted a 360.  The PS3 was going to be months down the line and way too expensive for me.   i still have a high end 4:3 tv so the display is clear but obviously nowhere near HD not even widescreen!  so to pay for a blueray player or HD:dvd player was not really something i was looking for, i just wanted to play the games.

so i get my 360,  i was surprised at the noise level but once gears was in, i couldnot here it for the chainsaw!   gears looks amazing even on my TV, photo realistic almost(particularly the rainy mission at the powerplant.  anyway RSvegas was widescreen bordered but actually i enjoyed playing this more than gears of war.  i have since played SC:DA its good.  oblivion is an amazing game but after 100hours i am bored so traded it in.  i am currently playing star trek legacy and call of duty 3,  legacy has some amazing visuals and is totally underrated.  Cod3 is amazing to look at but just isn't "gripping me"  i disliked GRAW, where was the watching, (waiting, binoculars needed) gameplay of the first game,  for me the way it highlighted enemies just took it away from what GR was originally about, i get its set in the future, but it feels like a shooting gallery to me, RSvegas is way better.  i dont think i will bother with GRAW2.    i have also since played halo (ok) and halo2 which i didnot enjoy (dont flame).

before i bought it, i knew nothing about achievement points (which are cool and do add replay value), MSN integration, XBOX forum integration, i still have no current plans on an HD TV and am really enojying being a gamer at the moment..

i enjoy coming here and reading peoples opinions and things and thought i'd chip in.  i wont be getting a PS3 anytime soon  i do think PS2's domination had an awful lot to do with the fact that few people had DVD players at the time (this was one of the main reasons i got mine)  people just are not in that position anymore.  if PS2 had not been a dvd player i would not have bothered.

sts106mat
People on welfare buy the PS2, Sony knows this and mostly everyone with half a logical mind is aware of this! I believe at the end of the 360's lifecycle the PS2 will be over 10 years old and will be its sucssesor (at just about $150 at this point) Sony's in alot of trouble in the future if the PS3 is still in 3rd place!

I feel sorry for the TC.  I own a PS3 and Wii.  Sorry that you don't own both so you have to write articles bashing one of them.  PS3, so far, is getting waaaaay more of my time the the Wii.  I beat Zelda, Wii Sports is old, and I just bought Super Paper Mario (havent played it yet).  For PS3, I have Resistance, Oblivion, VF5, Motor Storm, NBA2k7, NBA Street, Fight Night 3, GT HD, and I'm loving it.  If you say graphics don't matter, that's perfectly fine.  Guess what though?  Wii's gameplay is awful so far.  FPS's are a joke, an absolute joke on the system.  Zelda would have been the exact same game using regular controls (maybe even better), and car games have also been very weak thus far.  I mean, come on Nintendo fan boys, open your eyes.  The Wii has not yyet innovated any genre of game except bowling, fishing, and golf.  That's what you have to be excited about?

In the mean time, you can continue to bash PS3 all you want, but people with a PS3 or 360, a PS3 and Wii, a 360 and Wii, or all three, are far better off than gamers with just a Wii.

 Sorry to burst your bubbles.

Very well said, and its the reason I bought my ps3 because it had everything u want all put in one package. Anyone who says, they wants just a gaming system, and doesnt believe sony will deliver in that area, then u just dont know nuttin about sony. If there is an edge that sony does have from the rest of the pack in competition with games, that is a variety of different games that cover every genre of gaming over both MS and Nintendo, and u dont believe me, just look at the ps1 and ps2 library of games and they show that they have a game for every type gamer there is and is why to this day u still see people buying ps2's. If u dont believe me, here is a video that proves my fact that sony covered every genre of gaming with both the ps1 and ps2 and u dont think sony is going to continue that trend? Sony is going to do the same thing this next gen, yes it may be slow right now, but once games start coming in and devs start learning how to work with the hardware, sony is gonna do the same thing it has been always doing and that is delivering great games and a whole bunch of different type of games. Its why I sit here and laugh when people say the ps3 doesnt have no games. They said the same thing about the ps2 when it was launched, and looked what happened, the ps2 just shut those haters up with sales those haters wouldve never thought can happen. Anyways I look forward to the ps3's future and the games we are waiting for is almost near, so just give it time and u will see that sony will deliver.

So your saying points are your main motivation? Wow here's me thinking people actually play games because they enjoy them, guess thing's have changed. So what happens when you get to 100 billion gazillion points? Will it have enhanced your gaming experience?

 Sorry to burst your bubbles.

mate...im sure the TC said he had all 3 :? people in here are getting wa to on the defensive. I re-read the post the TC made, and now realising although not totally un-biased, all of what he says is true, they are facts....to the most part. So why is everyone disgruntled about this. Some of the paragraphs were his OPINIONS and some were facts such as the compression etc etc. Why do people get so touchy about these things. Like he said:

" dont defend your one 'precious' console like its the only thing you will ever have in your life."
