It actually did decent, about 20% software attach rate.....my theory on that is that TP was made to target americans not japanese with the darker art style, so it didn't sell as well there.....
He really should stop listening to people and just make a Zelda game that he really wants to make.
When Majora's Mask and Windwaker came out people complained,"It's too different!"
When Twilight Princess came out people complained,"It's the same! We want something new!"
"He believes Twilight Princess didn't do well in Japan because there are fewer and fewer people interested in playing big RPGs."
That's not really true, both FF and Zelda are huge, and anyway, Zelda ain't a RPG.
I can't say I'm too surprised TP isn't selling well. I think people really wanted a next gen Zelda so when that comes Nintendo will get the sales for sure.
maybe because its the same rehash everytime... Yeah its exciting at first time you play a new zelda but when your in the middle of the game. You start to get bored because you know whats gonna happen triforce, master sword, zelda and ganon.
Get the hint already Nintendo and star coming up with some fresh new characters.
New controller doesn't make the same old stale formular any better.
Considering it was a lanuch game, it sold very well on the Wii (and also on the GC). It was the number 1 selling game at sometime in all regions.Nintendo_ManWell at one point right after lauch, it was selling on an almost 1:1 ratio with the Wii, so much for people not wanting it.

why isn't it an RPG?
Because it's an adventure game.

It was only a sales flop in Japan, the rest of the world is fine.
That game where young people learn to respect their elders sounds tight yo.
He should call it, NintenGeezers. Use the wiimote as a wash cloth and wash up a couple of old folks.
Sweet.

it can be both
Well its got a few very light RPG themes to it like getting new weapons and stuff through the story but overall you dont do to many things that are RPG like.
Personally I was a little disapointed with Zelda on the Wii, I was hoping they would do way more with it than they did. I guess we will have to wait for a Zelda built from the ground up just for the Wii. I hope the next one has more depth and some new elements to it.
shows that miyamoto isnt just a shill who will say what everyone wants and I dont see anything wrong with what he was saying. It was a lot of speculating about the industry. Also, you can call zelda an rpg. You are playing the role of a warrior. Zelda has the plot feel of an rpg, with engrossing fantasy environments with apocalyptic overtones. It may not have leveling up but it has weapon upgrading, health upgrading, and currency gathering for important items. Isnt that a lot like an rpg? Sure he's wrong but he's not horribly wrong, and unless you're trying to read him wrong you should know exactly what he's talking about.

You gain HP, MP, gain new spells, new armor, weapons, you visit towns, talk to NPC, blah blah blah.... When the first Zelda was released I always considered it an RPG, and I don't remember anyone calling it an "adventure" game, because that tag was reserved for stuff like Maniac Mansion and whatever..
I always considered games like Ys, Crystalas, Illusion of Gaia, Secrets of Mana and Secerts of Evermore (etc)... RPGs.. which are really no different than Zelda...
Lost Kingoms and Crystal Chronicals are RPGs for the gamecube, but you gain new HP the exact same way as Zelda.. so does "gaining experience to gain stats" make an RPG? no

lol. funny thing is, is that it'd probably sell in Japan :D
actually i like the idea of using games to teach real things. It's actually a concept called "Serious Games."
I was at an technology and science convention months back and some panelist were talking about making games that teach in schools and teachers becoming ppl that dealt with the extreme cases. needless to say the educators in the room weren't pleased. but the fact that miyamoto is thinking about serious games that deal with societal issues is pretty cutting edge.
for those that want to know. the speaker was one of the guys that worked on America's Army. One example was that in AA to unlock a different profession like combat medic, one would have to walk into a virtual class room and watch a powerpoint presentation given just like it would be in real life. afterwards there would be a multiple choice test. the same that real army personal would take. i found that very interesting.
