This myth needs debunked, JRPGs not named Final Fantasy dont sell well outside japan. For example Chrono Trigger has sold more than 2.36 million copies in Japan and 290,000 abroad, think im wrong? Name one JRPG that has sold well in north america thats not a final fantasy game. Also, stop saying that 360 fans buy less JRPGs than sony fans (refering to north america). Really its a regional thing, just like FPS dont sell well in japan.TerroRizing
Yes your right, it is a regional thing, and the 360 having 70% of its fanbase in one region is gonna hurt it vareity wise.
Didnt Dragon Quest 8 sell pretty well outside Japan?CHRIS_K_UK
Not really, just alot better than before.
[QUOTE="RurouniSaiyajin"]Name one JRPG that has sold well outside Japan? Okay, Kingdom Hearts
Shazenab
Epic Win.
Owned! Also pokemon(remember the craze?) and i think the tales series.

Thats really tragic that the numbers were so low... was such a damn good game. I loved it and got all my guys to lvl 99 with teh best of everything. Saw every ending and beat every baddy, including the hardest lavos (if i rememeber right you could solo it with chrono)

It really was a great game, still more playable than alot of current games.
The Pokemon franchise has sold 164 million games and those are RPG games. The only franchise that tops Pokemon is Mario with 200 million games sold.

It mostly sold that much because of it's name alone, but I guess lots of people did by it because it's an alright RPG.

yup you could go solo with chrono when marle got warped back at the begging of the game from the telepad in Leene square you go to the oppposite pad and instead of warping you back it warps you ahead to duke it out with lavos. I don't remember if I beat the game with just chrono I remember attempting it but don't remember if I beat it, I'm pretty sure I did though I did pretty much everything you could in that game I still play it from time to time.
Anyway I'm pretty sure thexenosaga series sold pretty well here or at least thefirst one did because it became a greatest hitas did SO 3 and KH. I also think Suikoden 3 sold really well here but I haven't confirmed the numbers for any of those just going on memory of when they were released if people were talking about them and if the initial sales werre strong.

TH3 was a good game IMO I give a 10 too... that game was so much fun, it even had online
jrpgs on the 360 are garbagemistervengeance
Better than ps3 jrpgs, which so far dont even exist (unless you count Enchanted Arms).
Fact, JRPG's on a SONY console sell better then they do on a Microsoft console.
There hasn't been one JRPG on an Xbox Console that has broken 200,000 copies (if it wasn't for Blue Dragon I could say 100,000) outside of Japan. SONY on the other hand has done it numerous times. Hell Dark Cloud sold over a million copies in North America and it was a launch window title.
While on this here are some more facts.
FACT - JRPG's usually get over 50% of their sales directly in Japan
FACT - JRPG's generally don't appeal to the Western audience
FACT - Final Fantasy isn't the only JRPG series to sell more then a million copies in North America
Counter what I've said TC, I dare you.

i never said anything about ps3's rpgs. i know for a fact that they suck.
however, i also know that every jrpg on the 360 is trash

Ah yes i remember now... such good times! Maxed out at lvl 99 with and stats maxed you owned everything.... magic combining was cool too but totally underpowered compared to single use.

i'll try it some time, just hearing that stupid storyline and what the characters are named shyed me away from it.

I'm waiting.
Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle series
Wild Arms Series
Suikoden Series
Xenosaga series
Mario rpg series
Pokeman series
Kingdom Hearts series
Monster Hunter series
Dragon Quest series
Disgea Series
Tales series.....
I'm noy saying i'm right, but there are some jrpg series that a lot of PS2 owners know of.
Hell Dark Cloud sold over a million copies in North America and it was a launch window title.GunraidanSomehow, when I heard this I instantly knew exactly how Dark Cloud managed to clear a million sales in NA, and it was just a matter of finding out where it said I was right. Wikipedia obliged in the very first paragraph:
Dark Cloud was one of a few games that was distributed in demo form bundled with the initial release of the Playstation 2.WikipediaIf it wasn't bundled as a demo at launch, not many people would have known nor cared about the game in the US, and this is coming from a huge fan of everything Level 5 has done.

And Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon weren't demoed on the 360? Not to mention it came demoed with many other games on the same disc it was in.

bundle at launch! i do remember playing far too much AC2 hahah. and the same way GT3 got such ridiculously high numbers, being bundled with PS2s for a long time. it got over half again the sales of the other games in the series, iirc. the older mario games pulled the same thing, as did the GBA tetris. i'm guessing forza 2 and marvel ultimate alliance are going to have abnormally high 'sales' after being bundled with 360's for a few months :) edit: and yeah, i do realize it was only a demo - i'm standing by the contention that many people that purchased the game so early in the console's lifespan never would have heard of it or paid attention to it if not for that bundled demo. a lot of people can't be bothered to try free demos, hang out at the PC forum for proof of that =PGuess essentailly all the JRPG Publisher and dvelopers were just out of their minds for putting almost every JRPG for the last two gens on Sony's machines. :|
I mean if it sucked that bad you think they would have moved on right? Hmmm... :|

There's no such thing as "common sense" in the gaming community.
