wasn't DSII/scholar of the first sin both above 30fps, even on the console releases. So it's not like it's something new they have to deal with

@lostrib: yeh. But also recent namco's pc ports were really crappy too. So one never knows with them.

please lock it at 30, make the game crossplatform i'd GLADLY buy the pc version for 30fps action. If not then im getting the Japanese version on the 24th for the ps4

but as it is the same engine as bloodborne, it wouldn't be too surprising if the game actually breaks at over 30fps

Mods should exist to turn a great game into an even better game. Not to pick up the slack from incompetent, negligent or lazy developers. Poor coding or contracts. At this point, they don't really have an excuse of saying they don't know how to make a game without tying physics to framerate. My guess is that they are using a modified Bloodborne engine which was designed for the PS4, so they tied framerate to physics for that and can't really work around it for DS3. They've dealt with these issues enough that they should know how it is done. There clearly has to be some other reason they feel they have to lock it. Parity is my guess. The plan is to give Namco Bandai no money until they release the 60 FPS edition with all of the DLC bundled in for free. If it doesn't sell well on PC due to their crap, they'll use it to justify not releasing on PC at all next time around.

Unfortunately, some guy at gamingbolt played a preview copy of the game on PC, said it was capped at 30fps. But other than that, the game was great.

Textures are sharper, there’s been an improvement to the lighting system, and environments and characters appear to be just a touch more detailed. Whether or not any of this is improved upon more closer to its release is one that’s doubtful, but it does look pretty…in a horrific way. As this was PC version I previewed the game on, being capped to thirty frames-per-second felt largely insulting. This is something the first game was criticized for, rectified with in Dark Souls 2. Whether this changes or not on release is questionable at this point. But it would benefit greatly given the responsive nature and requirements of its gameplay.

Hopefully it changes...

Not sure where you got the idea that's 60fps footage right there. It clearly isn't, and in fact I'm almost positive it's console footage.

For comparison sake, here's Scholar running in actual 60fps.

Maybe the game is centered on 30fps. Perhaps some character or sprite animation, etc, are 30fps.

@howmakewood: Its not superior in the slightest, unless they fixed everything in DS2. DS on PC is so obviously made for consoles, the camera is for consoles and all the graphical options are locked away. I agree that most pc versions of multiplats are better, but DS' pc port just felt like it wasnt made for pc

okay the DS pc port was shit w/o dsfix, but with that it ran much better than the console one did, I own it on both ps3 and PC

DS2 performed great at launch on the PC, but running the game on 60fps did cause the engine issues like durability draining faster than vs 30fps, this got fixed when the ps4/xbone versions came out. Then the Scholar of First Sin update made it even better and was practically free if you owned DS2.

Like I said earlier, From makes great games but they are technically awful on both pc and consoles

I'm not saying the game is bad, im just saying that they are focusing more on consoles. Its just kinda sad that mods have to fix up the options cause they were locked for no reason.

@aigis obviously they are, but like you saw with Bloodborne a full out exclusive where they only had to make it run well on that one platform, it ran like crap on release, now its a bit better but still quite bad with frame times/ load times etc

given how different platforms pc and ps3 still were, they actually had to do quite a bit of work to land dark souls on PC, this isn't the case anymore.

and while the games look almost the same on console and pc, they still run better on pc

Dark Souls III Will Run at 60 FPS on PC; 30 FPS Rumor Debunked

Earlier today a rumor started spreading, alleging that Dark Souls III would be locked at 30 frames per seconds on PC. A few minutes ago, the official Twitter account for the game officially debunked said rumor, mentioning that the game will run at 60 FPS (if your machine is powerful enough, obviously).

The rumor mentioned a response from Bandai Namco support as its source, and bounced on several websites. Wonder what it'll take to run the game 1080/60.

I mean it does look a lot better than previous Souls games. But I hope it doesn't require a beast of a machine to run the game 1080/60 as nothing I've seen would justify that.
