I would really like to hear from people here who proclaim to be such big Unhcarted fans, of the complex and intruiging elements of gameplay it offers.

Lets see if anyone can answer this without avoiding the subject.

Speak now or forever hold your peace.

More simple than shallow. Unless shallow = simple. In which case shallow doesn't mean much. I always thought shallow would bemash square every time an enemy appears!Uncharted is a LOT of fun, it doesn't need to have loads of complexities. What makes Gears less shallow? Also, I will list a reason. I loved Uncharted 2's online because the platforming added another dimension to the maps and made getting the drop on the other team fun, exciting, and possible. My favorite multiplayer game this gen. Too bad Uncharted 3's is utter trash!

platforming on a moving object, coupled with aiming while the train turns, coupled with avoiding obstacle, coupled with the choice of going inside, on top, or at the side of the train, coupled with which weapon to carry, coupled with the choice of melee, ranged, or grenade

big playground arena. you can sneak your way all throughout and not get reinforcements coming, or go guns-blazing and having to deal with a second wave of enemies with snipers at the top.

actually naughty dog is a bit samey if you think about it. all their playable characters are white - semi white males with emotional/pschological problems. wouldnt be suprised if the guy in last of us isnt a heavy drinker or something.

more importantly all of em cant go mroe than 30 mintues of gameplay without something blowing up

Yes and crash bandicoot had a weird mask fetish while Jak's best friend is an squirrel or something like that.

Yes they're shallow, like most of the games that are out, but 2 is a lot of fun.

I just hate how Drake stumbles everywhere and continues to fall off of something the entire game. He's the clumsiest character ever created.

crash was psychotic thats just the end of it

jax's primary problems were that he had split personality problems. he had his three forms (normal, light eco, dark eco) each fighting to be free of the others in their own way. if you had played jax 4 you would see how this actually all fits togeather. naughty dog may not have made that one but it is a jax franchised game and it does explain this quite clearly.

drakes is obvious he has daddy issues combined with being a bit of a habitual sh!t disturber

the last of us dude clearly has either divorce or dead wife stress to deal with. he also doesnt give two cents about himself which meaning he either has a destructive problem or he has 0 self respect

daxter.. daxter is self centered.

Probably because its the most talked about and critically acclaimed PS exclusive, and has the highest MC score of any PS3 title (eclipsing any 360 exclusive, right on the area of PC games and just behind some amazing multiplats and Nintendo games).

If I had to, I'd say its the amazing polish, great characterization, open ended combat (allowing you to utilize your platforming skills and environment), pacing (switching between platforming, exlporation, puzzles and shooting throughout), well done puzzles (too easy in Uncharted 2, but just right in Uncharted 3 and very challenging), and top notch gunplay (which haters tend to over hate for U3 because of lessened accuracy, ignoring the patch and Uncharted 2's fantastic gunplay).

Its an all around amazing title, even super games critic Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has to grudgingly admit its a fantastic game, even if he doesn't particularly like Drake (likening him to a genocidal white supremacist). Considering he'll completely poop on other amazing games like Super Smash Brothers, Halo, Call of Duty (post 4, which he liked) and Gears of War, praise from him is rare.

It's shallow obv, but very smooth and fun! It's even better if you refuse to stay at the same spot for more than a couple of seconds and just keep moving (UC3 did a good job of forcing even the lazy players to move a bit :) ). Most areas are small playground. Also traversal, melee, shootouts and stealth blends well (all four are pretty shallow) which makes it a varied experience. Also awesome set pieces at a steadily rate. So in summary: Yes they are very shallow, but also super fun :D!

Another person that's jealous he doesn't get to play Uncharted on his Xbox.
If Uncharted was a Xbox exclusive i'm sure you would make tons of threads about how great the game is.

Anyway you can say whatever you like it's not going to change my view on the game or anyone else's. Uncharted is one of the best games this generation.

Go play another edition of Halo, a boring shooter with childish aliens. :d While we are getting ready to play some new aaae IP's.

The core gameplay itself isn't deep at all. It has extremely mediocre gunplay that hardly feels impactful or rewarding of skill, and the game attempts to compensate for that by throwing you into crazy situations or interspersing shooting segments with platforming segments. Typically Uncharted games go by the formula of climb a few walls, then engage in a shootout, look in your book to figure out which statues to turn, jump around some more, shoot some more, and then a cutscene. It's a lot like Wal-Mart: it's not the best place to go for if you're looking for something specific, but it does readily offer a bit of everything, though when those things are analyzed closely they're subpar at best.

Same goes for Gears of War, but unlike Gears Uncharted is immersive. There was never a dull moment in Uncharted ever, not even the desert because it made you feel truly alone and hopeless which was the point.

I haven't played a Gears game but it's unfair to compare an action-adventure game to a cover shooter. Gears' shooting is the focus of the game, whereas Uncharted tries to smash together set pieces, shooting, platforming, and cinematic sequences to compensate for the mediocrity of each individual gameplay aspect.

Typically Uncharted games go by the formula of climb a few walls, then engage in a shootout, look in your book to figure out which statues to turn, jump around some more, shoot some more, and then a cutscene. It's a lot like Wal-Mart: it's not the best place to go for if you're looking for something specific, but it does readily offer a bit of everything, though when those things are analyzed closely they're subpar at best.princeofshapeir

Tell me the difference between Gears of War's shooting aspect and Uncharted's please because they are on par.

And mediocre? Oh man give me a break. Did you see the cruise ship level? What about that is mediocre? You tell me.
