What do you think, is the best video game storyline ever ?

Legacy of Kain

Absolute pinnacle as storylines go. The originality, the atmosphere, the twists, the script, the voice-acting are all phenomenally presented in a dark and gothic game series, combined with thrilling gameplay and incredible sound. The ultimate, brilliant storyline, video-game wise.

I think that it is probably a PC game, specifically Planescape:Torment

Im loving Mass effect universe.

depends on the taste, but i would say the earlier SHs and Warcraft 3.

Majoras Mask.

A true video game story. Its enhanced by the gameplay/world, something all games should do more.

The story would probably be crappy as a book.

homeworld. simple, elegant and engaging. no pretense of being more important than it really is. perfectly drives the game forward. it is everything a videogame story should aspire to be.

peripherially, the best story in a video game is starsiege (not the tribes garbage). if you bought starsiege and got the big story/art book you know what i mean.

Is that the original top down 2d one you're on about? Because it's on the PSN store and I never got a chance to play it when it orginally came out.

Mass effect and kotor?

I'd lean towards Mass Effect (with the caveat I haven't played Planescape). The plot isn't overwhelmingly original, but it throws in some great wrinkes and some of the best characters in gaming.

I don't know... :P Deus Ex, Planescape: Torment, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, KOTOR, Half Life. Oh... and Prototype. :P

I'd give my opinion, but what do I know, I play JRPGs.

I'd lean towards Mass Effect (with the caveat I haven't played Planescape). The plot isn't overwhelmingly original, but it throws in some great wrinkes and some of the best characters in gaming.

-metroid prime: there wasn't much as far as actual story telling goes, but i could spend hours reading all of the chozo and pirate lore, piecing the story together and figuring out the order they go in.

-Demon's Souls: again, not much of a story, but if you talk to people and read about the archstones, special weapons, and spells, you can piece together a very interesting story

You play as this space marine who has big muscles, and is bald (can NOT forget that he's bald as that's important to the story). Anyways, so Earth is being invaded by aliens, and you're the only hope for survival. Raymundo_Manuel

Dragon age, ff7, ff9

Lawls to the Pokemon.

Surprisedno one has said this one yet, but the best storyline for me is the Kingdom Hearts series. In the beginningit all seems so simple, but if you look at the games in order there is a lot unanswered. Then as the series goes on more and more things are being answered. Even the spin-offs advance the storyline. The best part? It's not over yet! If a whole series doesn't count, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga was a fun and twisty story :).

Planescape: Torment undoubtely.

Second comes StarCraft. Almost as intricate and satisfying, and definitely just as epic.

Final Fantasy 7 for me. This gen, I really liked Mass Effect's story. I have not played Mass Effect 2 yet. I also liked MGS4's story.

Anyway Planescape is probably the correct answer, and also the Baldur's Gate series.

Have to go with Planescape: Torment as well... Balders Gate 1/2 were also great. Enjoyed KOTOR/Mass Effect/Dragon Age quite a bit too. But i guess thats how my tastes go.

Seems a bit to personal a thing to have a single game be the 'best'... like Art there are many greats (that you may like or dislike personally) but the best of all time is next to impossible to pin down when its all so personal :)

The best videogame story is MGS3. Duh, I thought everybody knew this.

I want to say Final Fantasy 7, loved the story to death, but I'd have to go with Fatal Frame 2. Playing though on different difficulties and unlocking more of the story was awesome. I thought the game played one way and ended like that, played though again and got my world turned upside down.

The Legacy of Kain has an amazing storyline, but in my opinion Planescape: Torment has the best one ever.

MGS1. As much as I want to say MGS4, it got a little too convoluted at times. MGS1 handled it perfectly. I remember as a kid, I would always watch my buddy play through it and was just in awe from the story and cutscenes. I was only watching and yet was having just as good a time as the person actually playing it. Now that's a hell of a game.

i wanna put mgs but i think there story is crap tbh but alot of people seems to enjoy it.

best STORY imo (not gameplay or game)

1- heavy rain this game is practically a movie the story telling is outstanding i dont think any game come close to heavy rain in story telling.

2- second best story is alan wakes story it is amazing its like a series and if u play the game it has 6 episodes each playing like an episode of a series. they even give u a preview of last episode before starting the next.
