Naughty Dog: We have maxed out the PS3.

In a recent PAX 09 interview, the naughty dog devs said while uncharted used only 30%, Uncharted 2 maxes out PS3 hardware, what do you guys think?? Uncharted 2 is looking awesome!! Cant wait!!

Well, One developer down, many more to go. Good for ND (Or at least Amy Hennig).

While that sounds great, process's will change over time. I think Epic made a similar claim about the 360, but you watch, next Xmas GeoW3 will look even better.

I also posted in a few of these topics today, but I would like to see what a 100% PS3 game looks like, so U2 should be fun to look at...eyecandy.

Do you feel bad about still getting hyped over developers saying that?

Seriously while I believe ND are talented guys, am sure this is all pre-launch 'BS' talk to gather more attention by the media/gamers... U2 looks amazing and having been in the beta, its online is great, but am sure another game will come up as early as next year which will look better than U2..

(personally GOW3 & Last Guardian already look on par with U2 & we havent seen much for those 2)

you can easily max out a console. its a matter of what you consider max really.

but they really only have a set amount of power. they have a set maximum fillrate a set maximum bandwidth, ect.

Square Enix said the same thing when FFX came out on the PS2.. And, for all intents and purposes, they pretty much did. However, the PS2 continues to sell even to this day.

They're just trying to build hype for their game, graphics will keep improving. You can bet Uncharted 3 will look better than Uncharted 2.

So Uncharted 3 they went down down down into the darkest depths of the PS3 to find a little nugget of power that wasn't known before.

This early in the PS3's life? I doubt it, I remember when it was said that the original Gears of War maxed out the 360. Although to be fair, there aren't really any games on 360 with better graphics than Gears of War, even Gears 2 looked the same. I do think Crysis 2 might change that on both 360 and PS3.

With at least 3 more years of the current gen (maybe more) I do expect better and greater things to be done with current hardware.

i doubt that they already have the ps3 maxed out already its only been out for almost 3 years and it took them 5 years for them to max out the ps2 and i bet its harder to max out the ps3 than it was with the ps2

Sounds like a hype machine to me. How could it be possible to max out a machine this early in it's life cycle, or ever? Doesn't really make sense.

The PS2 had been maxed for years, and then all of a sudden a sneaky little game called God of War was released. Again, the PS2 had been absolutely maxed and it was amazing. What happened next defied all odds as another game, God of War II, was released in 2007.

The PS2, a system that was initially thought to have been maxed back in 2004 with GTA San Andreas, was still pumping out amazing games with visuals that continued to improve beyond expectations.

Don't make the mistake of thinking these consoles are maxed just because one developer has done all that they can with it.

Just hype that's all

for a start there will be no ps4 next year there is at least another 5 years of ps3 left baby and crysis 2 and mafia will out do uncharted 2 when it comes to graphics so get yer facts straight before yer start a war.

oh yeah baby killzone 2 is so much better than uncharted but i dont take anything away from uncharted because dat game does look nice to look at but yer got a support the exclusives if ya a sony gamer.

Cell could never be maxed out, Just watch it grow stronger and more powerful now that Naughty Dog has defeated it!

WOW, you people don't really see anything else in a game than graphics. When Naughty Dog is talking about maxing the PS3, he is'nt just talking about the graphics. The Animation, physics, amount of action on screen all comes into play here.

you can always optimize your code to get better results. Like i said before, i can max out any system with about 7 lines of code. Bad code can bring any CPU to its knees. And there is no such thing as perfect code. You can always tweak it.lhughey
