[QUOTE="CaptainCrazy"]It's becoming quite clear that the PS3 is not going to be the runaway hit the PS2 was. Face it guys, no company has ever won the console wars 3 times in a row, if Nintendo couldn't do it, Sony couldn't either. This time it's going to be Xbox 360's time to shine. If Sony hopes of taking back the number one position next time they had better start designing the next system NOW and release it at the saem time as Xbox 360 2 or whatever they call it. MS's competition is too strong for Sony to be coming 1 year late into the game.dustin-diamond

And which system u think will last 10 years out of the 3? Thats all I gotta say. Just because of these early numbers, doesnt mean nuttin. Look for the ps3 to take off after its been in the market for a year. Sony has 150 titles there studios are working on alone, and this is not even including all the other games from other developers like capcom, koei, and others. Give it time man, and u will see. I own both an xbox 360 and a ps3 and call me crazy for buying a ps3, but one thing I do know is sony will always deliver with games. U know how halo fans are about that one game, its the same way I am with alot of games that are sony exclusive games, this is why I bought the system, because as soon as the sony hitters come out, u gonna see people start buying ps3's. :)

lol damage control

Lets wait to see the results when the ps3 is out in ever region. And for a system that is 600 dollars I would have to say that sony is doing pretty well just being in the US and Japan. And also remember when FF13 hits japan I can guarantee a couple million ps3's alone will sell in japan only. That is a fact. Till den game on. :)

I agree... The 360 is getting slaughtered by the other two in Japan and it can't win without that region... However It can control a significant part of the market without it... Just not all of it like the PS2/One did...

You really think Europe is the saving grace for the PS3?  Even if sales doubled, the Wii would still be outselling it.  And from what I'm hearing, Europeans aren't too enthusiastic about the price.
FF13 will be countered by Mario.  Though it seems FF13 is going to get delayed until 2008, which means MP3 will be there to counter it.  A single game cannot save a system.

Here is an idea...let us talk about this in about a year.  It is ridiculous claiming the end to a system this early.  Wait to see what happens when the PS3 has a list of big games behind it.  Also, there may be a significant price drop this Christmas.  Blu-ray players are supposed to be priced at around $600 this summer and there are talks that the price may be as low as $300 by the year's end.  If this is true, they could slash the price significantly.

If this does plan out, Sony will take this gen in a walk.  Imagine PS3 game library (MGS, FF, DMC, GOW, etc.), blu-ray player, Home, and a price tag at $399--that sounds unstoppable to me.  Of course that is if it plays out.

Bottom line, it is WAY to early to say anything.  Let us wait and see where the cards fall over the course of this year.  By then we will have a much better idea.

[QUOTE="Skippyj9"]Incase you haven't noticed, there's Resistance and Motorstorm right now... that's it.

By the holiday season, Grand Theft Auto IV, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, LittleBigPlanet, Tekken 6, and Singstar will be out, rumble will be put back in the controllers, Home will have launched, and Blu-Ray will more than likely be the only HD format on shelves. And also, PS3 hasn't even launched in Australia, Europe, and the Middle East yet.

Yes, these are terrible sales, but really, can you blame consumers? There's nothing out right now, but things will surely change by the end of the year.
famousking
gta4 will be for 360 also so people will buy 360s to play gta 4 not a ps3 why? cause of price whyt pay 600 to play the same game andthe same way on a 400 machine same deal with oblivion and assassin's creed, 2nd tekken 6 comes out in 08 singstar is for casuals and casuals aint gonna pay 600, europe is only gonna add like 1million units more then after launch sales will be almost the same as here. also europeans are not stupid there system cost more and does not have full bc i think the wii will win europe.

People will pay $600 to play GTA4 and have a Bluray player bundled in with that equation. This works out even better for casuals. Parents may be looking to upgrade the theater system. Kid wants a game console. PS3 knocks out both problems.

You're basing your judgements on past Sony offerings... you simply can't compare the PS3 in it's time frame to the last few generations.. The PS3 came out last (well second to last) and it's price is $200-$300 more than the competition ( one of which is offering the exact same thing for less) I think that by the time the PS3's price drops to say $450 for the 60 gig'r.. The premium 360 will be like $250-300 and then you'll have the same results all over again. Sony shot themselves in the foot by releasing the PS3 at such a high price point.. And it'll hurt em in the end..

I thought the 360 was doing better in Japan recently with the release of Blue Dragon? I remember seeing news of lineups to buy the 360 - blue dragon bundle. I can see the momentum moving in the 360's direction so that lucrative Japanese market could easily move to MS's camp especially if a few big name Japanese developers support the system. Look what happened to Nintendo with the loss of just 1 game (FF7).

LMAO 360 doing well in Japan get off the crack please...

They are dead last in Japan.

and the PS3 is dead last in the U.S.  and 2nd in Japan. I'm trying to think which one is worse.

I would say being dead last in a gaming-crazed country (that would be Japan) after you already had a one year lead and some awesome games (Gears) is a worse situation to be in. I can understand why Sony is last in the US (Hi? Games? It's me. I'd love to play.) But there is no reason for the Xbox360 to fail in Japan. Again.

I was showing an example of what the ps3 can do in an area like Japan only, but if u want me to also bring up other big name titles I can do that. These are games that are already proven and can be big sellers for the ps3.

MGS4

Devil May Cry 4

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

God Of War 3

Tekken 6

Gran Truismo 5

Socom 4

Ratchet & Clank

Shadow Of The Colossus 2

Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13 Vs

Kingdom Hearts 3

Okami 2

These are just known titles that are sellers on the sony brand, and if I add in all the other titles that are new to the franchise, which alot of people are awaiting.

Heavenly Sword

Lair

Afrika

Eight Days

Naughty Dog Game

and all the 3rd party games like GTA4 and MAdden, and the rest. If it wasnt for the ps2, thats the reason why the GTA series was so big. So anyways I am going to go play some RFOM online so take it easy and game on. :)

I like those games, but for casuals, they are not going to shell out $600 plus tax plus HDMI cable plus HDTV (if you don't have one), plus the games. PS3 price is too much for any casuals to justify.

Microsoft doesn't market well to casuals. The PS3 is wayyy to expensive for most casuals. This leaves Nintendo to scoop up the market.

Thats where I think your wrong. In my opinion Microsoft is getting a lot of casual fanbase along with the Wii. PS3 though is to expensive for casuals.

Like I've said in the comments on the GS news, this is serious trouble for Sony. The PS3 is NOT going to win, not with that price-point. The PS3 is dead, it's too far behind now to get back into the competition unless Sony does a major price-drop, it'll be a 2-way race. It doesn't matter if Sony gets top quality titles now, a $600 price point is not suited for this market. This has occured for 2 consecutive months now, and it's worrying seeing how the PS3 is such a new console compared to the xbox360. Sony is in trouble, price-drop seems like the only way.

There are people who don't frequent gaming sites, who don't know the quality but only see the qunatity of titles for each console. In fact most gamers are casual gamers, and $600 is indeed a problem not matter how good the games are.

U can also look at this way.

PS3 with 60 gb HD. Do the math PS3 alone would be $400 including a built in Bluray Player which alone in the market u can prolly get for $599 now. Also a Built In wifi which if u are a xbox 360 user u spend $99 for that which already comes with the ps3 and one wireless controller with a usb charger cord, and of course the AC wires and Power cable. Buy a HDMI wire for $40 and one Game for $60. And add $200 more dollars for the 40 extra gb HD since the 20 gb version of the xbox 360 cost $100 more. This all adds up to $1,400 for the ps3 but instead sony was nice enough to make it affordable and they are losing like $300 with every ps3 they sell for only $599 including a game which brings it all to the cost of $660 and online is free to play games. U can also go online and surf the web and watch HD Movies on your Built in Blu Ray Player. That is one heck of a deal if u ask me.

Xbox 360 $299 for a 20 gb hd $99 no built in wifi but if u buy one seperate it will cost u $99, comes with a wireless controller which u cant recharge so u have to buy new batteries everytime it dies. $10 a week for batteries unless u buy the cord controller. Which is another $65 and comes with power cords AC wires oh and yes if u want to play online with gold it will cost u like $60 a year and a game $60 and this all cost u $685 and this is not even including an HDVD add on which would be another $199 extra.

Like I said I have both systems, but when I really look at it and even with MS having alot more games to choose from, I really feel like my investment in there machine wasnt worth it. I mean dont get me wrong they do have the better variety of games so far but thats only because they been out for a year longer then the wii and ps3. Like I said when I really look at the investment I put into my ps3, u actually are getting a better deal then most of u might think. The only ones that would say no is the ones that dont own a ps3. My facts are the truth and im done here, but I will enjoy both worlds, but yeah anyone who says ps3 isnt worth it, just doesnt have one or is just a fanboy. Anyways game on. :)

It will only get worse for sony because if you look at it economically in the US it will be harder for them to sell since in some states an average of 7-9% and a small percentage of households cannot even pay their home mortgages even let alone massive layoffs in certain parts of the country.  To make my point short the ps3 pricing point is not good in this type of economic climate as many things will take priority over buying a videogame system during the nonholiday rush season of the year.

[QUOTE="RahnAetas"]They still have the Europe release to save themselves.  If it can become a hit there, then they might be able to keep up with the 360 and the Wii.KJAX90
 Wait, you're serious:?

I sometimes have a hard time figuring out when I'm serious or not.

[QUOTE="jxditu"][QUOTE="Hoffgod"][QUOTE="jxditu"][QUOTE="deadmeat59"]the only way ms would win if they give there systems away for free cus without japan there not wining anythingHoffgod
they are winning right now without japan.

Yeah. A year head start with good sales will do that.

well its not MS's fault that sony couldnt get their system ready when they said they would. so sure a year head start does help. but since the ps3 release the 360 has still been killing it in sales. o and japan isnt the territory to win anymore, so the whole take japan and you win thing is out the window.

You seem to be forgetting entirely about Nintendo. And Japan can be a huge difference maker. The biggest reason the SNES won the 16-bit war is because it outsold the Genesis in Japan by 17 million units. Then again, with the Wii outselling the 360 in every territory, that may be a moot point.

well the numbers have changed since the time of the snes. now more people in NA buy and play more games than people in japan. more than twice the number of people are buying console in NA now so this makes japan almost third on the marketshare. and i didnt forget about the wii. its selling great and i think its a awsome system.

they dropped because you couldnt find any in stores. the ps3 is everywhere so cant use that excuse.
