Ok, here is the thing. No flaming please, I just want people's honest opinions. (yes, I know this is system wars) And please don't tell me one is going to attract the ladies or something stupid like that, because I can handle that on my own, thanks very much.

Anyway, the way I look at it is...

They both look fairly sleek to me. The PSP is a bit nicer, IMHO, but certainly not by too much.

Both seem to have some interesting and highly rated games, although the DS seems to have more of these, especially a few that really some to be a departure from the more traditional games on the PSP.

Price really isn't a huge issue, but I would like to know if PSP games cost the same as DS games or not. What attracts me to the PSP is that it can function as multiple things at once; I can watch movies, play games, save pictures, have music on there, browse the internet, etc. At the same time, if movies cost 30 bucks each and games cost 50 bucks each I'm not quite sure whether I'll want it.

I'm not a huge gamer, meaning I don't even play daily...maybe once a week or so if I get a chance. Which is why it seems appealing to go for something that can do more than just gaming. But I still like to sit down once in a while with a game I like.

Some of the games I'm considering for each console are...

PSP- Field Commander, Metal gear Solid Portable Ops, Tekken, Pirates, syphon filter, liberty city stories, lumines.

DS- Mario Kart, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Ace Wright, Trauma Center, Animal Crossing, Age of Empires.

If you guys have an opinion on which I should buy, please tell me, and also explain why. Also, if there are any games that should be AA or AAA quality coming out for either platform, could you please tell me about them? Not expecting you guys to make a decision for me, just want to hear what the owners have to say.

I would say DS, and besides it is my opinion, but fine: DS has better games; it will have the most support in the future; cheaper; innovative. (I have a PSP btw)

Well i have always liked pokemon.  I have played it from the start.  I don't view it as kiddy.  And it is fun.

Their have been a lot of good PSP games lately. Tekken:dark resurrection, ratchet and clank, MGS: portable ops, lumines, ridge racer, wipeout pure, both GTAs, syphon filter, daxter, burtout legends, locoroco, both socoms, and mlb:the show. Comes coming out in the future are coded arms, rainbow 6 vegas, FF, FF7 crysis core, crazy taxi, FF2, parappa the rapper, silent hill, madden 08, monster hunter 2, god of war, GT4, elder scrolls oblivion, devil may cry, and all the great games on PS2. If you like the playstation games then get a PSP.

If you like the Nintendo franchises, go with the DS.

If you like the Playstation franchises and like to tweak and mess and mod your system, and are willing to shell out a bit more cash, go with the PSP.

Definately the DS The PSP offers nothing that you wont get on your PS2. It is on it's last legs and it is completely unsuitable as a portable videogame machine and an MMP3 player. The DS has an amazing future, superior first and third party support, a much better variety of games and better prices all around. I've owned both inthe past so i think i can speak Authoritively on the subject

what attracts me to the PSP is its portability, it can do all a PS2 does but you can take it anywhere.  Although, your point is taken in that the DS is a very nice machine and has a lot of things going for it.

I don't like RPG's, but I can always seem to enjoy pokemon. Something cool about getting cute animals, evolving them into mammoth beasts, giving them their own set of moves, remembering which pokemon type trumps which, and kicking other peoples asses, whilst going on a huge adventure.

It's definately a good RPG but it is by no means a must. The best RPGs on the DS will be out this year (DQ9, the new Bioware RPG, ASH). Other RPGs worth getting are the afoermentioned FF3, Pokemon, Rune Factory, Etrian Odyssey, Tingle, Revenatn wings, crystal chronicles, wonderful world, among others

Kiddyish?

Ya, if you are stuck on the ideal of things that appear: "Kiddy" then they won't be fun, then a psp might be a better choice for you.

But if you like having fun, DS.

Go with a psp. Especially if you dont play a ton of games. Ask yourself what system do you like playing games on the ps2 or the gamecube, wii? then make your decision. you really wont play either one all that much. FYI. Especially if you arent playing a lot of games now. you wont really play it at home, unless you are on the toilet.
