Did anybody like this game?
I played the demo and any interest I did initially have was lost very quickely.

Yup, I played the demo to death, bought the game, and love it. One of the best racers in years.
I forgot how pretty Dirt really is. I'm second guessing my need for it. Perhaps I DO need this after Forza runs dry on me. EDIT: I was under the impression the PS3 version was the lead platform for this... Or at least the engine was written with the PS3 in mind. Am I wrong?musicalmac
I heard carmark said ps3 system account too many memory, so memory usage is less than xb360. that's why sometime devs have to cush something down
quote:
Game Informer: When we interviewed you at CES this year, and QuakeCon two years ago you weren't too thrilled with developing for multicore systems. Obviously now, that's the case across all platforms. Were you kind of at the point with id Tech 5 where, you said, "We give in?"
John Carmack: You have to take advantage of what's on the table. Although it's interesting that almost all of the PS3 launch titles hardly used any Cells at all. We hired one of the best PS3 guys around who did the Edge Acceleration technology for Sony - he's on our team now so we've got some of the best PS3 experience here. In fact when we were doing all of the tech demos, we'd bring in the developers and they'd walk over and say, "it's running on the PS3!" (laughs) They'd sit there and stare at it for a while.
There's no doubt that with all of the platforms that we have running here PS3 is the most challenging to develop on. That's what I've been saying from the beginning. It's not that it was a boneheaded decision because they're a lot closer the fact that they can run like this [points to the 4 different gaming stations running Rage] - they're a lot closer than they've ever been before. It's a hell of a lot better than PS2 versus Xbox. But given the choice, we'd rather develop on the Xbox 360. The PS3 still does have in theory more power that could be extracted but it's not smart. We don't feel it's smart to head down that rat hole. In fact, the biggest thing we worry about right now is memory. Microsoft extracts 32 megs for their system stuff and Sony takes 96. That's a big deal because the PS3 is already partitioned memory where the 360 is 512 megs of unified and on the PS3 is 256 of video, 256 of memory minus 96 for their system...stuff. Stuff is not the first thing that came to my mind there. (laughs)
The PS3 is not the favorite platform but it's going to run the game just as good. To some degree there's going to be some lowest common denominator effect because we're going to be testing these every day on all of the platforms, and it's going to be "Dammit it's out of memory on the PS3 again, go crunch some things down" That's probably going to be the sore spot for all of this but because we're continuous builds on all of these we're going to be fighting these battles as we go rather than build these things out and go, "Oh my God we're so far away from running on there." Which is the situation where Enemy Territory is suffering with at a degree right now, and a lot of other people have that.

Played the PC version. Loved it.
The Dirt Developers said that the PS3 version is graphically superior to the Xbox360 version. They also said the PS3 version runs at 60fps, the Xbox360 version is limited to 30fps.
Those screens look different because they are at different views, the car is at a different angle in each shot.

sorry, but from my experience, both version have same framerate.
x360 version do have superior graohics than ps3, maybe just cause ps3 is just demo, they still have one month to adjust from september release.
see my comparision offscreens at floor 13
as usual another mutiplat360 game has over done brightness/bloom/HDR lighting... which makes it a better mutiplat game?
even though PS3 has a better framerate and physics?
Those screen shots are from different times of day, therefore the sun is in a different location making the shadows and reflections look different.
Notice the PS3 version has it's headlights on while the 360 version doesnt.

notice, xbox360 has better looking textures and more grass, why? because of more ram.

Actually the PS3 has the same amount of Ram as the 360. The only difference is that the PS3's ram run at a faster 3.2 ghz, compared to the 360's slow 700 mhz.
That's why in most games PS3 tend to look better and have higher framerates, espcially for next gen engines like UT3.

nope,
unreal tournament 3 looks better on xbox360
the speed of ram means nothing because they are 2 different types of ram architectures, so the clock speeds/performance per clock arent comparable.
what you need to know is xbox360 has 512 mb unified between gpu/cpu and 10 mb edram
the cpu or gpu can use all 512 mb -32 mb for os
ps3 has 256 mb for cpu and 256 mb for the gpu only 256 mb i usable for cpu/gpu plus no edram also - 96 mb of ram for os.
XBOX360 PWNS PS3.
the screenshots clearly prove 360 takes dumps on ps3 stop being a fanboy it's common sense.
OH please. It still performs better than the 360 version and thats WAY more important than fewer trees and grass.Cedmln
ahhaha, the game is better on 360 period, stop being foolish.

The reason why the PS3 is going to go the way of the Dreamcast. Except it's not going to have as good of games...

Yes i'm sure all that framerate dropping adds to the fun factor of the game. ;)
so does downgraded graphics i played demo on my 360 and fps seemed around 60 to me noticed no drops, my pc was getting around 30 fps in demo and my 360 demo was playing was faster fps.

See that's where you went too far...
 I was just gonna explain this. Can't believe that no one else is not seeing this... well DUH of course there is diffrent lighting during different times of the day / night cycle  people need to use some common sense. If you really trully belive that the PS3 is not capable of doing dirt just as good as the 360..... your a sad little fanboy. PS3 = powerfull hardware and so is the 360, but to say that the system sucks because the daytime pic of the 360 version has better lighting to the dusk pic of the PS3 version = down right dumb. And if you ask me the Xbox 360 has a bad habbit of all its games being to dark, good example Tenchu Z I had to freaking turn the brightness up in that game to see somthings on my HDTV ( my HDTV is calibrated for watching movies ) Heck even Bioshock, im about 10 hours in to it, and I had to adjust my brightness for that game as well just to see down some cooridors. And the same goes for pretty much the enitre 360 game libary. I like that the PS3 games tend to be brighter, they actually look perfect how they are, and I never have to fiddle around with the settings to get the game to look right. Fanboys need to unite !...... and grow up.Those screen shots are from different times of day, therefore the sun is in a different location making the shadows and reflections look different.

Really? Because I see lots more trees off to the right in the 360 version, and in the PS3 version the crowd seems to be missing from the bleachers off in the distance to the left. Its nitpicking, to be sure, and honestly, if the PS3 maintains a more steady framerate I'd take that version even if its missing a couple of trees or other small stuff.

LOL, BU BU PS3 HAS RAM 3.2 GHZ LMFAO
look to the right the trees missing proves ps3 has less ram avalible for devs to use, downgrade station 3 cutting out trees to it fits in ps3 memory.

Show us proof that UT3 looks better on the 360. As far as the ram goes, the PS3's gpu can access all 512 mbs of ram in the PS3. So stop being a FANBOY it's common sense.we allready know that amercicans don't get the concept of ralley.
i playe both versions.bottom line: thje y both look VERY equal. PS3 version has a slightly better framerate....
The game is great though.
