One of the biggest alarms to 360 owners is that so far, the only announcement has been for a game that has already been announced and has been around for a while, so long that gameplay has already been shown. Does MS have anything planned? Geoff Keighly responds to someone who tweeted:

@geoffkeighley "Too many PS3 stuff at the VGA, K.Butler, Resistance, New Exclusive. C'mon! Nothing awesome and exclusive for 360? Not Fair"

He tweeted back: @Fernando_TMC "Many games still to announce."

But I agree, right now there is nothing that makes a person who is deciding between a PS3 or a 360 go for MS. I know the VGA's isn't MS's X Event but what do other people think? MS already dropped the ball at E3 and GamesCom, IMO.

This is an issue in System Wars. It is not an issue in the real world.

I'm pretty sure that's why I posted it here in SW. Video Games =/= real world. We all know that.

If Microsoft had a bunch of franchises coming out that were mediocre at best would that be better for gamers? If they released another re hash like Crackdown 3, forced more developers to make games exclusive like Alan Wake, or released a total howler of an exclusive (Lair, Too Human etc), would that benefit gamers. Quantity doesn't equate to quality. I know cows have used the exclusives as a way to beat the 360 in recent years, and you have every reason to. In System Wars that is. In real life, no one gives a **** about a games exclusivity. They buy it if it's on the platform they own.

In that case, I own a 360, I go on System Wars, and it isn't an issue to me.

No not really most people only care that there are games coming out for the system they own. Only on fanboy (system) wars is the exclusive issue such a big deal.

I have never been alarmed because for the past two years Microsoft's games have been announced very late to the party. That's just how they do it.

Most of the times they're announced over a year before they're released.

I hope MS announces something. And not just anything, like a Kinect title I don't care about, but something good!

I read a report that there will be 13 reveals at the awards lol. MS has to fit in somewhere right?

There facebook thin says to tune in for a Gears of War announcement that'll have everyone talking.
And IGN had sources saying that they were going to announce a GeoW/Kinect game...

There's not really any math to be done on what their announcement is going to be.

Why not. :P

* Gears of War 3 announced April 2010 - prospective release September 2011 - 18 months
* Halo 3 announced E3 May 2006 - released September 2007 - 16 months
* Halo 3 ODST announced at TGS Oct 2008 - released September 2009 - 11 months
* Halo: Reach announced E3 June 2009 - released September 2010 - 15 months
* Halo Wars announced Sept 2006 - released Feb 2009 - 28 months
* Crackdown announced Oct 2005 - released Feb 2007 - 16 months
* Crackdown 2 announced E3 June 2009 - released June 2010 - 12 months
* Fable II announced E3 May 2006 - released Oct 2008 - 29 months
* Fable III announced GamesCom Aug 2009 - prospective release Oct 2010 - 14 months
* Forza Motorsport 2 announced E3 May 2006 - released May 2007 - 12 months
* Lost Odyssey announced E3 May 2005 - released Dec 2007 - 31 months
* Blue Dragon announced E3 May 2006? - released Aug 2007 - 15 months
* Mass Effect announced Oct 2005 - released Nov 2007 - 25 months
* Alan Wake announced god knows when - released May 2010 - too long to count
* Too Human

Take out Alan wake and Too human which had really long dev times, it averages out to a year and a half between the time a game is announced and the time it releases, without even adding the 6 year AW and Too Human, which god knows how long that was in development. I really don't understand this, announces quickly idea.

And yet the 360 still outsells PS3 in North America.

I'm hoping for a real Banjo adventure...but I've been hoping for a long time. Or Perfect Dark 2. Or to "stop worrying and let Rare make a AAA this gen".

Agreed. What do Mom and Dad at their local Gamestop say this month? "Well honey, the PS3 line up for next year looks stronger because MS hasn't announced anything for new for next year but Gears of War 3. Did we need milk, because Stop 'n Shop is closing soon....." They look at the section of games on the wall and in the ones by me, 360 has a larger section, plus Oprah pushed Kinect. Mom loves Oprah.........

What, 360? isn't that thing dead from E3 when it had nothing and totally failed and just died. Seriously, every time some conference is held MS is declared dead, it's quite funny seeing how the thing usually ends up selling better right after these conferences.

I don't think that's the impression. At least that's not what I'm getting. I think it's that MS is doing very little in terms of keeping the Fan Base interested in the 360. If the 360 isn't putting out decent games that can only be played on it then what's the point of having it?

What you just said is what was said during E3 too, difference is MS doesn't announce things years before release like Sony. Project Kingdom is supposedly to be released next year but they've said almost nothing on it. There are probably quite a few more games for 360 that they've said nothing on for next year, probably some PC/360 hybrids too. So yea, 360 hasn't satisfied its gamers for years now, it must be dead. Codename Kingdoms wasn't announced "for 2011."

As far as I can find Microsoft Game Studios published games aren't announced any earlier than other platform holders. I have no idea why this idea persists.

  • Gears of War 3 announced April 2010 - prospective release September 2011 - 18 months
  • Halo 3 announced E3 May 2006 - released September 2007 - 16 months
  • Halo 3 ODST announced at TGS Oct 2008 - released September 2009 - 11 months
  • Halo: Reach announced E3 June 2009 - released September 2010 - 15 months

  • Fable II announced E3 May 2006 - released Oct 2008 - 29 months
  • Fable III announced GamesCom Aug 2009 - prospective release Oct 2010 - 14 months
  • Forza Motorsport 2 announced E3 May 2006 - released May 2007 - 12 months
  • Lost Odyssey announced E3 May 2005 - released Dec 2007 - 31 months
  • Blue Dragon announced E3 May 2006? - released Aug 2007 - 15 months
  • Mass Effect announced Oct 2005 - released Nov 2007 - 25 months
  • Alan Wake announced god knows when - released May 2010 - too long to count
  • Too Human - Too Human
  • Codename: Kingdoms announced E3 June 2010 - prospective release ??? - prospective getting an actual name ???

There are a few Microsoft Game Studios games that I can find that were announced and released in the same year, like Gears of War 2 (Feb 08 - Nov 08 - still 10 months) and Forza Motorsport 3 (June 2009 - Oct 2009 - 5 months - but known since E3 2008 ).

But these are exceptions, not norms.

shinrabanshou

Oh it was already posted, and yet this idea continues to persist in the thread anyway. This post has become quite useful.

Well I stand partly corrected (ODST, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead 2, ...), some games are about 4-5 months more than 12 as I stated which is like about 12 months (just a guesstiamte) less than Sony announcements (GT5, TLG, KZ2, etc).

You're right, it isn't an issue in the real world. I was talking to this guy, and he loved his 360, I respected that. He then said 360 is better than ps3, and that ps3 Is garbage. I asked him to list me at least 3 Major 360 exclusives coming out in the rest of 2919 and 2011. All he could do was say gears 3 then sit there, staring at me blankly trying to list 2 others. He couldn't. But a lot of people love 360 and hate ps3, even when it's short on new exclusives such as now.

[QUOTE="spookykid143"]

[QUOTE="themyth01"] From the fact that Halo Reach, ODST, Gears 2, Fable 2/3 etc have all been announced about a year or less before release.

themyth01

* Gears of War 3 announced April 2010 - prospective release September 2011 - 18 months
* Halo 3 announced E3 May 2006 - released September 2007 - 16 months
* Halo 3 ODST announced at TGS Oct 2008 - released September 2009 - 11 months
* Halo: Reach announced E3 June 2009 - released September 2010 - 15 months
* Halo Wars announced Sept 2006 - released Feb 2009 - 28 months
* Crackdown announced Oct 2005 - released Feb 2007 - 16 months
* Crackdown 2 announced E3 June 2009 - released June 2010 - 12 months
* Fable II announced E3 May 2006 - released Oct 2008 - 29 months
* Fable III announced GamesCom Aug 2009 - prospective release Oct 2010 - 14 months
* Forza Motorsport 2 announced E3 May 2006 - released May 2007 - 12 months
* Lost Odyssey announced E3 May 2005 - released Dec 2007 - 31 months
* Blue Dragon announced E3 May 2006? - released Aug 2007 - 15 months
* Mass Effect announced Oct 2005 - released Nov 2007 - 25 months
* Alan Wake announced god knows when - released May 2010 - too long to count

Well I stand partly corrected (ODST, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead 2, ...), some games are about 4-5 months more than 12 as I stated which is like about 12 months (just a guesstiamte) less than Sony announcements (GT5, TLG, KZ2, etc).

So how do you expect them to get a game out in less than 12 months? Most of their big releases take more than 12 months.

They do take more than 12 months as most games, they just don't announce them at conferences at the beginning of development. We can probably assume Rare is working on something but MS has said absolutely nothing on it, yet they've probably been working on something for about 2 years now. There are cases like Left 4 Dead 2 where devs will actually develop something in about a year though. In any case, I've been hearing the same argument for a while (check GS during 09) and here we are.

there wasn't tons of stuff announced last year, but we still had a a good amount of releases, Forza 4 is rumored for next year, gears, some of the studios that M$ created about a year ago have yet to really show anything. Granted I'm not sure what went 100% to kinect but rare is likely to be working on something, I think they are just focusing on kinect release and once it calms down we'll here more on the core games. That might why gears is slated for early 2011 so most of us have something to look forward too while they go crazy with kinect.

[QUOTE="Zero_epyon"][QUOTE="themyth01"] What, 360? isn't that thing dead from E3 when it had nothing and totally failed and just died. Seriously, every time some conference is held MS is declared dead, it's quite funny seeing how the thing usually ends up selling better right after these conferences. themyth01

Did you sell your PS3 because it had no AAAEs on the last 6 months?

I never said this was my opinion so please relax. I was merely interpreting what they're trying to state. I think a user posted some time lines of microsoft releases and they've averaged about 12-18 months, which is similar to all publishers. MS also had a couple of games that were announced and in some cases shown off way before its release. Alan Wake and Too Human are two. And no I did not sell my PS3 because there weren't any PS3 exclusives released. Why? Because I knew what was going to be released in 6 months and I had a 360 at the time, before it RROD'd for the second time playing reach. And no one is saying that the 360 is dead. Just slowing down and people are wondering what's next for MS.

But on the other end of the spectrum you have Too Human, Alan Wake and Halo Wars being release more than a year or two after they were revealed.

MS will have 3-4 exclusives out by the end of 2011, which is perfectly fine. AAA exclusives.

Gears, Codename Kingdoms, Forza and im sure MS will announce a few more during the year for the holidays. Its gonna be a good year.
