That's cool, I guess.

Not much I can really add to that.

To run anything on a PC (including Word), you need more than a GPU.

I haven't read into it too much, but if it is using cloud computing what is the relevance of the gpu in relation to this story?

Cloud Computing is beyond bad imo. It's already a pain for companies to provide servers for matchmaking and hosting games, and now they're trying to render them too?

Apparently to use the AMD Fusion Render Cloud you need an AMD GPU with a specific chip. Other than that nothing from what I see.

Well that's bogus because streaming based gaming has worked on a variety of systems for years, anyone here can go to StreamMyGame.com and try it out themselves.

It's not about whether it's possible - it's about whether it's something you want to pay for. Do you want to pay the $30 a month for an iPhone data plan, *plus* a monthly subscription fee to a streaming service, plus the cost of the games you play on that service? People moan about paying $50 a year for LIVE - imagine spending in the range of $600 a year to stream your games... it's not a pretty picture.

-

What consumer is going to pay that kind of money when the app store offers entertainment for a couple of bucks? Now you might say "but, this is Crysis, it's way more impressive than Bejeweled" - but that has *always been the case*. That hasn't convinced people to upgrade their Dell laptops for gaming machines in the past - so why would they spend a great deal of money out-of-pocket to essentially do the same thing, but remotely?

Can you do this in a way where consumers *don't* have to pay $600+ a year for a service that goes away the moment the network goes down?

I see, thanks subrosian, you always impress me with your posts :)

Pretty good, if Apple can get games like Crysis to run on the iphone they might prove to be a threat later on.

They say it's cheaper but you would be getting what you pay for in that sense which is to say nothing at all. I see this as an alternate type of rental service but one that will be vastly more expensive than traditional rental shops. I'm all for moving forward and coming up with new tech but why try to sell us something that isn't even as good as what we already have? Just seems like an attempt to fool people into essentially paying more for less at the end of the day.

The problem then would not be running Crysis on the iPhone, but trying to play it. Can you imagine trying to control it with nothing but a touch screen?
