Urgh, they said GOW spawned the cover-shooter genre.CyberfairyIt kinda did. It didn't originate cover-based shooting, but the modern idea of a cover-based TPS is always informed by GOW. The "cover-shooter" subgenre didn't really exist before GOW came out and everyone decided to copy it.

Other than that it was mildly interesting.

Umm it basicallt did. Don't get me wrong, it obviouisly was not the first TPS cover shooter. But it refined and pioneered the system that is standard today (ME2, UC2 being 2 important recent games shamelessly taking inspiration from GeoW's TPS combat). I doin't think any1 has done TP cover shooter like Gears thus far, but people take "inspiration" quite a bit from that. I don't blame them, that's how gaming works. Genres evolved. Gears evolved the TPS genre into refinement.

Don't you just hate how no one ever remembers KillSwitch?:(
Anyway, I can't wait till Gears 3 comes out. I bought a 360 pretty much just for Gears and Alan Wake so GeOW 3 is definitely one of my most hyped games this gen.

The game was average and Winback had that before that game, and it was average too, maybe people forget innovations in average games, like Life Line, an average PS2 exclusive that was innovative as you used a mic to talk to a cpu to beat the game.[QUOTE="CyberRuler"]

If a game doesn't catch peoples attention then it doesn't matter how revolutionary it is. Uncle Jimbo could have been the first to make a cover system for a game but if nobody know Uncle Jimbo or the game he made then does it really matter he made it first?[QUOTE="CyberRuler"]

To be fair, both Winback and Killswitch weren't great games while Gears was, that's one good reason to ignore those 2 average games.[QUOTE="CyberRuler"]

Funny thing is,that game has a very similar concept(minus the voice recognition thing)to one of my favourite games this gen, calledThe Experiment.[QUOTE="Arach666"]

What I hate even more is how people pretend they played Kill Switch.
Nobody would know about the game if Cliff never said that what influenced him while making Gears of War.

It wasn't hard to actually get an opportunity to "play" killswitch. Most people probably didn't own it, but if you were a dedicated gamer when the game came out and went to a gamestore every so often, I have not doubt they would've gotten their hands on the killswitch demo.
Ohh yeah, I hope they have hordeish mode again, best part of GeoW2

Calling KillSwitch the origin is an insult to what Gears of War and others have done for cover-based shooters. Indeed, as people have said. gears pretty much perfected the cover system. I'll have to take their word as I haven't played many cover shooters, but Rainbow Sex Vegas has a solid system.Wait, what? The game now has HeadCrabs?.................I was begining to wonder why Marcus had a H.E.V. suit, Glasses and a crowbar........:P
