mixed review, really...more negative. Honestly, IMO..seem abit too picky. Its a sequal and Gears has gameplay nailed, good enough for me aslong as its set in different enviroments and more guns are added, its a buy. Sadely some of the first games hiccups made it back in gears 2.

not too happy about the whole emotional-ties epic has added, seems forced, because most epic stories seem to involve a lot of emotions/love (epic knows they needed a better story and with MGS4 setting the standards), it works for MGS games and movies, but for a game like gears, and a character like dom, it just doesn't sound right, but who knows. I just find dom more of that relaxed guy, atleast from the first game.

I'm surprised Dom Sandiego has a wife. I always thought Gears of War was "greek".

Epic sucks at making stories since Unreal 1.

Translation of the 'hands-on':

I'm an Epic-hating fanboy, and while I can't nitpick at anything in particular to back up my loathing, I will make blanket generalizations and talk about how much its like the original award-winning game to which this is a sequel of.

GeoW2 will probably not be the masterpiece many are hoping for

Fortunately the MGS series has NOT set the standard for storytelling in games. If it had, I would officially quit gaming forever.

http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/09/29/gears-of-war-2-playtest-of-the-first-two-chapters-in-co-op/

We've played it. It blew us away. It'll blow you away too.

First things first: Gears 2 could very well be the game you've been dreaming of for the past two years. It's Gears of War to the power of ten. The hour we spent playing co-op at a recent press event was practically transcendental: it takes puerile fun so effortlessly to the next level the action games of the past 12 months evaporated in seconds. Sorry for the gush, but we really were knocked out.

Why? After our chat with Cliff Bleszinski, a journalist was talking on the phone to his mate.

"It's the first one with tons of new stuff, the graphics through the roof and all the **** stripped out," he said. "It's more than that, though. You won't believe it."

I especially like this line:

"While nothing significant has been added to the basic premise of duck and cover punctuated by the rhythmical reload system and some seriously gratifying gunplay, it's been refined enough to make it feel more than just Gears of War 1.5."

Says it all, awesome game confirmed.

That preview was basically the way i felt about the first game. I enjoyed alot of moments and there were definatly good parts but it felt so shallow to me that i didnt enjoy it. I could see why some people would but there are many other games out there that i rather play.
