New God of War 4 in development for 2012? Job listings say so

Eh, I want to see Santa Monica work on a new IP. There have been 5 God of War games at this point. I've only played the console releases and I'm pretty tired of the combat mechanics since games like Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden exist. Unless SM does a complete overhaul of the combat, I'm not overly excited for this news

I think it's time for a new IP from these guys. They're a high quality developer, so I'm sure a new IP would turn out good.

Cool, but I can't imagine where they would go next with the franchise. I thought GOW3 wrapped things up superbly.

I was pretty excited for God of War 3 and I bought it on day one, but please Santa Monica, drop the IP. Kratos killed pretty much everyone there is to kill. Let the guy live his life in peace.

The gameplay is awesome but for different reasons. In terms of depth it gets thrashed by those games.

Calling it now, the new GOW takes place in modern times. Kratos is summoned from the dead, and now must cope with his stress of living in Modern Times. He is now a video game dev at Sony Santa Monica. Kratos is making GOW5, and any decision you make in development will affect GOW 5 when it is released, just like going from Mass Effect1-2. The new GOW will actually be closer to Heavy Rain and Mass Effect than GOW. What will GOW5 be like? Well you will decide :o It will actually be a blank disc that just moves all your decisions from GOW4 into it. Amazing Santa Monica, only you guys could do it.

I want them to work on a new IP. GoW is great, but I think they are all too similar and the story got worse each time (1 being the best). Great games, but indeed Uncharted is way better :P.

Well the God of War franchise is their kash-kau so I understand if they'd have second thoughts on starting a new IP.

As long as they change they gameplay, expand the possiblities of what Kratos can do and bring forth big changes to the games ala Uncharted 2, I'll be happee.

Seeing the creative if not disturbing minds at Sony Santa Monica, I think they should make a new IP created absolutely from the mind.

please say it isn't so, they had an epic ending with God of War 3, now just let the series die. GoW 1 was a great start, GoW 2 (my favorite of the trilogy IMO) had a fantastic advance in the plot, and GoW 3 gave us a cinematic finish to end all that was left off in GoW 2. The last thing we need is a new protagonist being god of war or aiming to be god of war.

I would prefer a reboot of the series which has to do with the Nordic gods.Zero5000X

Oh really? I guess in my hundreds of hours of playing God of War games (on all difficulty levels as well) I must have missed the tutorials where they explain the complex combat mechanics that are needs to complete higher difficulties and the game can't be beaten by mashing square square triangle the entire time?

Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta both have much deeper combat and better weapon variety. God of War is fun, but it does so by have a simplistic pick up and play, button mash away mindset. The boss fights are good and everything but even those do not compare to boos fights in Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma or some of the bosses in Bayonetta.

It almost pains me to say it, but God of War is like the Call of Duty of hack n slash games

Agreed. GOW3 was easily the worst in the series.

GOW serious never bored me so yes i would like to see part 4 if it's true no questions asked,second Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 i heard is coming out but don't know when another incredible game.
