2010/01/14 TOKYO, Japan - Square Enix's PS3 exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII gameplay footage was shown at Jump Festa 2009. Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the upcoming PlayStation 3 role-playing game will be using a game play we are very familiar with. Details about the game are finally being leaked. Graphically, Versus XIII is beautiful. The transitions between cinematic footage and gameplay are seamless and transitions beautifully. Rumors of it being styled after Kingdom Hearts are not false, but there are great differences. Inclusion of using all four characters, a pseudo Draw/Junction system, job classes, and most notably the mapping system make up Versus XIII. In Versus XIII, the player will be enabled to use all four characters at any time, and when not using a character they will be controlled by the A.I. Noctis and his allies will each be mapped by a trigger button. Anytime you press that button, you will control the character. Each character will have four spells to use for a total of sixteen spells overall. By pressing R1 O, you will have Noctis cast a spell that has been mapped to the O button, such as Cure or Fire. Getting spells is no cakewalk either. Spells are obtained in a pseudo Draw/Junction system. You will draw spells from an enemy, and then map it to a button. There is no need to continually draw 100 spells, but from the early footage, there will be need to discard and draw other spells.
Job ****s also seem to be in the game. This will certainly bring out a lot of strategy between Junctions and Job ****s. Maybe the player will want to have a Dragoon that casts black magic? Obviously some job ****s will be better suited for some spells, but Nomura has hinted there are tons of other variables that will allow different combinations to be viable and great. The early details of Final Fantasy Versus XIII have the game sounding like a real winner. Now it's just playing the waiting game.
