Read it and weep...for how good this game will be. That is just awesome you can travel to over 300 places in the galaxy map.

 http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/mass-effect/776248p1.html

GameSpy: Could you compare the size and scope of the game to previous BioWare RPGs? How many different planets and areas will players explore in "Mass Effect?"

Casey Hudson:Mass Effect has a similar number of core story areas as "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," but when you consider the explorable galaxy component that makes it quite a bit larger. There are over 300 "things" that you can travel to in space - ranging from just a satellite or a derelict ship to explorable planets or underground bases.

Lucasarts needs desperately to make a free-roaming, single player RPG. Mass Effect is what KotOR should have been... in my eyes at least.

Mass Effect is going to rock my world, that is for sure.

Bioware obviously won't, but I really wouldn't mind if Obsidian would make KOTOR 3. Sure they kinda messed up KOTOR 2, but for the amount of time they developed it they did pretty good.

That's a crazy amount for a console game. But Spore is still bigger - potentially thousands, if not millions, if not billions of civilisations can be explored. It's all in the online information sharing.

Bioware makes short games I doubt mass effect will last more than 20 hours tops. Mass effect is a action game not a rpg just like jade empire was a rpg but I finished it in only 13 or 14 hours. If you think mass effect will be a massive game like oblivion your going to want your money back.

Dead wrong, buddy. The devs claimed the MAIN STORY is 20-40 hours, and then combine that with another 30-40 hours of exploration and side quests and you are getting ATLEAST 50 hours plus tons of replayablity. And Oblivion was huge, but the dungeons all were the same. ME will have a wide variety of planets that are actually unique.

Depend on what they call "things"

Places need to be massive, linked together to create a roaming world.

I bet Mass Effect choose the : "jump on the ship and pick a location"

Better question?  How many square feet of explorable area?

Creating small places just for the head-count is a no-no.

man i heard EVE Online is absolutely amazing, with player driven economy and factions...apparently wars between different groups get reported on by the game's official news agency and there's lots of political maneuvering THAT IS ALL PLAYER DRIVEN...unfortunately i also heard the learning curve is ridiculously steep, noobs will get PWNED by those who have been playing for years, and in some cases, they'll just get used by experienced players as cannon fodder during big battles...i've wanted to play, but i don't want to pay a monthly fee just to have months of work (apparently upgrading your char takes place in real time so it takes a while) go to nothing

That's the thing...a guy with billion will have like the best ship out there...it could take 1000's of other smaller ships at once...noobs really don't have a chance.

Don't even try...it only sounds cool...take the most realistic sim you've ever played and times that by a 100. There is EVE.

Well KOTOR was 50 hours, and I highly doubt you could completely explore over 300 locations, and complete the main quest within 30 hours.

Indeed... Daggerfall. 161,600 square miles. Over 10,000x the total landmass of Oblivion. 750,000 NPCs, there are only 1000 in Morrowind and Oblivion.

Bioware makes short games I doubt mass effect will last more than 20 hours tops. Mass effect is a action game not a rpg just like jade empire was a rpg but I finished it in only 13 or 14 hours. If you think mass effect will be a massive game like oblivion your going to want your money back.ChiChiMonKilla

KOTOR 1 had over 40 hours of gameplay, thereby destroying your argument.

FF12 has over 50h of only gameplay story... And you can excpect over 120h to actually beat the optional bosses and dungeons. It's kind of normal that mass effect will be huge. After all it's a next gen rpg and it's made by Bioware, what did you excpect :P
