I'm a fan of the RTS series as well. I like the seamless play between shooting and melee mechanics in this, especially from a multiplayer standpoint.

I think it could be fun. Change of pace from other shooters. I hope the PC gets some modding tools.

I suppose fans of the aesthetic will get more out of this than the normal gamer.

For ****s sake Relic, why are you making this and not a new Company of Heroes (or, God forbid, Homeworld 3)? You'd think they'd have learned their lesson after The Outfit.

To me, Warhammer 40k should be RTS only until we have far more advanced tech. When I think of a WH40k TPS, I think of Gears of War on steroids with hundreds/thousands of combatants -- Massive scale battles. Tanks/crafts/vehicles rolling through, lazers being fired around, plasma cannons overhead, the whole works. This game gives the same impression Kill Team does. Small scale & out of place..

A Space Hulk setting with Terminators & genestealers is the only smaller scale WH40k I could see being really cool. Kill Team was on the right track, just the wrong ideas & execution.

So in other words its more in line with the lore, seeing as one space marine is the equal of at least 100 human troops.

because, as we know, if a dev doesnt put out a perfect game with a genre, they should never be allowed to make any other game from that genre again

Actually they have been working on a new Company of Heroes, it was Company of Heroes Online, a free to play MMORTS or some such. Don't think it fared well in open beta. And I liked the Outfit, so I think Relic will do fine with Space Marine.

So you're thinking along the lines of a MMOTPS type of game. Because that's what it sounds like. :P

Can't we have both? An awesome Warhammer TPS with a great single player story that furthers along the Warhammer lore plus has fun and addictive multiplayer. As well as a MMOTPS down the road maybe. The idea sounds interesting I will admit.

Except Space Marine looks like a mediocre shooter, while on the other hand Relic is arguably the world's finest RTS developer and is currently sitting on their top two franchises (not to take anything away from DoW, but CoH did the tactics+streamlined base building better and Homeworld is, well, Homeworld). I don't think it's hard to understand why someone would question their apparent priorities.

It wasn't really a new title though, as it more-or-less just slapped some MMO and FTP elements on top of CoH's multiplayer (that's my understanding, anyway). Space Marine might be fine, but I can't imagine it'll be anywhere near as good as a new CoH, Homeworld, or even new RTS IP.

So in other words, you just like RTS games, good for you you dont like shooters, doesnt make space marine any less good.

warmaster670

I love shooters. What I don't like are mediocre, me-too shooters that bring nothing new to the table aside from a license and a couple of tweaks to the standard formula, especially when the developer a) has little experience in the genre, and what experience they have was itself a mediocre title and b) is capable of making extraordinary titles in another genre.

You could at least wait until it's out to judge indefinitely if it's good or not rather than making assumptions.

Im sure hes more interested in whining about it rather than playing it, after all its clear hes already made up his mind about it, good or bad.

Yea, it's a shame too. Just from the single player story driven stuff and the multiplayer gameplay I've seen, it looks great. I like the Warhammer RTS's, I even played the MMO for awhile. I still think it looks great despite enjoying all of those.

i dunno i definitely wouldnt call it a gears clone thats like saying COH is a warcraft or starcraft clone because there rts games... i mean gow is a cover based shooter this one is not gow dosent have perks and deep armor customization this one does gow has melee but its not a big part this game has melee combat alongside ranged i mean come on now (also sorry if i made gow sound like crap im looking forward to that as well ^_^)

damn, i love Relic and the 40K franchise but this looks awful. Like a bad copy of Unreal Tournament with bad music, and NO Warhammer 40K feel at all.

How does it have no 40k feel? unless 40k to you is only huge battles with hundreds of troops, which is only part of 40k.

its what it needs, right now its like a slower Unreal Tourament.

also I dnt know much about space marine, but other than the impreial guard any other force is equally able to defeat a space marine, they should of included more races

surprisingly convinced by the multiplayer whilst I was disappointed with the look of the single player, I'm still of the opinion they're focusing on melee too much.
