Rikusaki just got owned. Hard. Polyphony's got some competition in the graphics department, and with proven developers behind NFS Shift, I'm more excited for this game than GT5. In Slightly Mad Studios we trust. :D

Slightly Mad Studios, formerly Blimey! Games, is composed of developers that worked with SimBin on GTR, GTR2 and GT Legends. My point still stands.

SimBin is the best racing developer, followed by Codemasters and then you have PD and Turn10. PD has gotten surpassed by all of them and they've still yet to really given any substantial info on the actual game of GT5.

polyphony is still the best racing developer around.......rikuaski did not get owned by a Need for Speed game....You obviously havn't played a GTR game? The GTR games smash GT out of the water when it comes to realism, and the makers of this game with PLENTY of know how in that department, mixed with those great graphics in the OP, I'll definatley be looking forward to this more than GT.
Need for Speed pretty much died after underground 2 in my opinion. Underground 2 was the best NFS game, followed by Underground 1. The series just keeps getting worse and worse. From what I have seen from Shift, this is true. After UG2, they sacrificed sexy imports and good tracks for boring locals, exotics, plain tracks, and good graphics. NFS is now more like Grand Turismo than NFS.
The car models are'nt very special, but the overall graphics looks good. Though I will wait for a real gameplay video instead of an of screen one. I hope the car handling is more a simulation than arcade, and I'm still waiting for a decent car game from EA that can run at more than 10fps.

Hot Pursuit 2 was my favourite, back when it was all about production/stock cars. Shame NFS developed into rice racing.

That does not look anything like GRID you stupid Gamestar man. Looks to reside somewhere inbetween PGR and Forza perhaps. Really like what they're doing with the camera there. Even looking at crappy cam footage you can tell it does a pretty good job at conveying a sense of various g-forces.
Nothing's gonna beat GRID to be honest, it's the perfect blend of racing styles if you ask me, and the graphics are awesome.bobbetybobYou fail Tom. Bet you've never heard that one before. GRID is not a blend of anything. It's pure crap.
GRID 2 anyone..? robobieNo thanks.
The visuals look pretty damn good if I do say so myself but I will continue to remain cautiously optimistic about this. The NFS series has never ventured into sim territory (that I know of) and racing sims are very easy to screw up if the developers don't know what they're doing.

Questioning if Slightly Mad know what they're doing in racing sim land is a bit like wearing shoes on your hands, it's silly.
Won't this horrible, run into the ground, stale bit of a franchise die already? Who the HE** still buys these games?
grimhope
How the heck can it be stale when Shift is completely unlike previous games in the series?
Get out.I smell another flop.I think they need to work on their car physics engine and make it more realistic like Grand Turismo 5 and Grid.Grid does feel a bit more arcade though, but it does the job.

Did you guys not play Most Wanted? That game was really good.Ofcourse the developers of GT are 'teh best' they get what, 5 years to make a racing game?? The guys developing this version of Need for Speed got like 1.5 year to 2 years max to make a game from scratch. The forza series will catch up with the GT series soon, because the guys making the GT games are so slow its not even worth it anymore to wait for their games to come out -- seriously. So show some respect for these guys for putting out a full version of a game so fast out and stop glorifiying GT, because they have many resources other developers don't have, such as TIME.
PR dude says there'll be exterior, interior(????) and performance-degrading damage. To what extent is so far a mystery. I'm guessing Forza 2 level stuff. Or since this appears to be all about cars modified for racing, maybe they can get away with more than that.I, too, maintain a cautious optimism about this game. I desperately want it to be really good.
But looking at those videos, I see no damage modeling. This vexes me. I am deeply vexed.

You certainly don't! The NFS series is not a bad series, you don't play them so why bother? Do you even read the reviews or just look at the scores?

Yeah...if we could just strike my earlier comments from the record, that would be great.
But the fact remains that EA is calling the shots, and EA chances are EA won't let Slightly Mad take the gameplay beyond GT-esque "simcade" gameplay.Questioning if Slightly Mad know what they're doing in racing sim land is a bit like wearing shoes on your hands, it's silly.

That said, I too am cautiously optimistic about this one. It's hard to judge the gameplay from a video (hopefully they'll include difficulty settings similar to those in Forza 2), but the graphics are great, the crash animations are interesting, and the sound effects are drool-worthy.

WTF simbin youve made 4 great sims, NOW DO IT AGAINI, too, maintain a cautious optimism about this game. I desperately want it to be really good.
