I think the new Nintendo may be a lot like the N64 was in terms of tech and image. It will still be a Nintendo console but it will have the edge in terms of graphics (just like the N64 had over PS1 and Sega Saturn). The only difference will be that it won't be hard to program for and won't use cartriges (which cost the N64 good 3rd party support).

Yeah, but if they want good 3rd party support they need optical media. The 64's main problem were the carts.

The N64 wasn't hard for developers to code for, you are thinking of the SEGA Saturn. What developers disliked about the Nintendo 64 was the 64KB cap that N64cartridges had.

It only needs like a 3 year old GPU to make current console graphics look bad.

The beginning of the end of third party support? No thanks :P I'll give them a blank check and tell them to write any number they see fit if they give me something that is a SNES reborn though.

Why not? Even if it use lower-end R700 that would still be better what current consoles have.

Yeah it will be the most powerful console in the world when it comes out. But I don't think they'll market it like that as they did with the N64.

it'll most likely be slightly more powerful than the current competitors (ps3 and 360), but once ps4 and xbox 720 come out, it'll be obsolete in terms of hardware. dreamcast would be a more accurate comparison than N64.

i think this will be like all 5 combined ,

its got the motion of the wii for casuals, its got a touchscreen as well-if th rumor is true

its got the gc controller layout ,

and itll have the graphics overhaul seen in n64 gc , and the image would mirror that of both wii and snes , awsome loads of support and i think ms or sony signed thier death bed when they went for the 10 yr life cycle because when they plan to release ps4 720 ---itll be 2-3 yrs into wii 2s life ,

what comes 2 yrs after ps4 720 you ask?

a monster by nintendo

and since this 6th unit is after a succesful unit it will most likely be a success because nintedo wont be like sony and launch a 600 dollar console ,

I'd compare it more to the dreamcast... Released after the N64\PS1\Saturn but too soon before the PS2\Xbox\Gamecube Might be more powerful than current gen consoles, but not for long

I don't why people keep saying this; Sega was on its last leg when it released the Dreamcast because of the failure of the Saturn while Nintendo, in terms of sales, is the winner of this gen.

Demonjoe93

The PS1's visuals were pixelated and the textures warped horribly. N64's visuals were much more smooth and didn't have warping at all. A lot of N64 games aged gracefully, wile most of the 3D games on the PS1 aged bad (graphically speaking).

I have both, and play them both anyway. So i guess the hardware in the N64 was superior.

and how you gonna compare anything to the dreamcast dreamcast failed. both with 3rd party and sales, sega was never a factor the next nintnedo is indeed comparable to nintendos previous attempts , thats the only one you can easily compare them to , is them selfs , because the competition has always done things differently , and dc came to early -3 yrs after saturn , the next nintnedo will come 6 yrs after the wii which is on time! i cant see how you can compare this to any gen any way ms and sony are doing ten!

dreamcast wasn't that bad in the beginng it looked better than the ps2. I remember i had DC when it launched it took awhile before PS2 looked better than DC. Even then it wasn't by much.

sure the wii had a great sales record this gen, but that doesnt mean that will continue. a vast majority of nintendo's fans have moved on to prefer the 360 or ps3. and how anxious is the casual crowd going to be to plop down the $250 - $400 for another system? not very. not to mention the 360/ps3 will probably have their new consoles by 2014 (if not earlier). its much more similar to the circumstances of the dreamcast.

You say it'll be N64 like, but that's until Sony/MS release their own platforms afterwards.

I'm just hoping the price is reasonable and that the games maintain Nintendo's high standards. I'm not afraid of the second part, just the first one. :P

I don't see any reason why this system will be like the N64.

Demonjoe93
PS1 using CD's and N64 using cartridges have nothing to do with power. The N64 was a graphical beast compared to the PS1.

Demonjoe93
What gave you that idea? The N64 had twice as much RAM as the PS1 (4MB as compared to 2MB, and it could be expanded to 8MB with the expansion pak), a 93.75 MHz processor (PS1's was 33.86 MHz), and a superior (albeit more confusing) graphics chip. The problem was that cart space limited how much texture data a game could hold, so it could never reach its graphical potential (the blurred look of several games is due to having to use low-res textures and spread them across a wide area). Think of it like a top-of-the-line car, constantly getting filled with weak gasoline, while the other one is a finely tuned average car with a gas tank always getting filled with 95 octane. The game's storage medium is completely irrelevant to the hardware under the hood, and the N64 was without question more powerful.

No, the PS1 wasn't even close to the N64 in terms of power. N64 was much much more powerful, CDs have nothing to do with it.

It can't be another N64 if it doesn't have a stupid controller meant for people with three hands.

I like your posts, they are usually simple and funny. And your probably joking, but i have to tell you to simply look at the difference between the games.

PS1 - pixelated, horrible warping of the textures

N64 - smooth textures, no warping at all.

That's a clear major difference of power right there.

It wont be like the N64. In terms of power over its compitionion, sure, but in other terms, no.

Personally I dont care if it gets over shadowed by the compition in terms of graphic power whenever they launch. Just as long as I can play the games.

not even quite you still dont understand the circum stances of the dreamc ast do you , the sega saturn was killed off only 3 yrs into its life !!!!! they should have waiting 2 yrs ,more the nintneod wii is going on 6! its time for nintendo , micorosoft and sony choose to wait ten yrs no company has done this, sega failed every gen including in itsw most poplar gen nintedno has always made a profit in every gen the only commercial failure was the virtual boy plus when 720 ps4 come out they will be even more expensive then cafe!!!!! think about that before running ur mouth , cafe wont be that much more expesnive and no one flocked to ps3 360 theyj ust own more then one consle lol so have fun claiming wii 2 will fail! cause you still have failed your self by saying wii 2 is in the same situation as dreamcast -wii was not as powerful and launched 1 year later then 360 , if it was gonna be a dreamcast wii would have been one , and what if all the rumors are true about gta v bf 3 and so on , huh what happened to driver 5 to i wonder why that got pushed to 2012 huh same for sr3 maybe they have somthing for wii 2 and u just failed because sales dfo matter and wii sales are still at the top overall they are swtill making profit 3ds has sold nearly 4 million units in the usa alone for 5 days on the market no body will buy a 600 dollar console is riight but a 300-400 dollar one they sure will especally if it has zelda on it , or gta v (who said they cant make it exclusive) and a much better online! and you are so wrong because sony and ms will be in this very situaton you speak of 2 yrs after they launch their units hahahahah ahahahaaha hahahaha ahahah wii 3 haah 2016 hahaha

Sort of depends how MS and Sony respond to it, if they instantly decide they need new consoles then no it won't, but if they wait another few years after the Wii 2 is released then it'll have an edge for a while judging by the rumours.

I think the new Nintendo may be a lot like the N64 was in terms of tech and image. It will still be a Nintendo console but it will have the edge in terms of graphics (just like the N64 had over PS1 and Sega Saturn). The only difference will be that it won't be hard to program for and won't use cartriges (which cost the N64 good 3rd party support).

if it used cartriges at least loading times would be fast thats one thing I loved the N64 for

Well the latest bluray drives are much faster than the PS3 drives... so loading times should be improved.

Why would comparing it with the N64 be bad? The only thing Nintendo did wrong with it was to use cartridges imo.

by the time wii 2 releases the releases the current consoles will by like 6 years old. So why are poeple getting excited over the wii 2 being more powerful? A new console will by far have more powerful hardware then 6 years old consoles.

It without any doubts at all will have the edge in terms of graphics over 360/PS3.

The question is how long will it take the competition to catch up with next gen machines.

Willy105

Ps1>Sega Saturn>N64

In what possible way?

If import software is included I agree slightly. If I made a list of my top 100 Saturn games, I've no doubt 75 of the games would be Japan only imports.
