New Oddworld on hold, old Oddworlds coming to Steam this year

I have been wanting a sequel to Strangers Wrath for what seems like forever but it appears whatever this new O.W. game is, it's on hold now. :?

I guess the silver lining is they are continuing to work on a new game and also, The flip side I guess is for PC gamers the Odd Box is hitting Steam.

Definitely a franchise deserving of another game. :)

Anywho, any thoughts ?

The Story

A couple of years ago, Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun decided it was a good time to start teasing us with the prospect of a new installment in the Oddworldfranchise. We've been desperately nurturing that little glimmer of hope since his announcement -- but we might have to extinguish our excitement for the time being. The series' creator, Lorne Lanning, recently told G4TV that the next Oddworld game has been put "on the shelf."

"There's a lot of shakeup going on [in the gaming industry]," Lanning explained, "and in that turmoil, we didn't really want to put the Oddworld brand out there in the middle of it." Looks like our Oddworld desires will have to be sated by the Oddboxcollection, which will bring the series' four console outings to Steam later this year -- or by purchasing the first two games on Steam together, right now, for $9.99.

Oddworld stranger's wrath could pass as a 360 game it looks that good, why wasn't it made playable on 360. I hope they announce a sequel with a HD version of the original in a collector's edition

i hope they go back to a 2d format, similar to the bionic commando rearmed game...

Munches Odysee was abit hit and miss, compared to the 2D Oddworlds, but Stranges Wrath was amazing. Certainly my favorite from the series, and judging how awesome Abes Odysee / Exodus was, that's saying something. :P

Its a shame the game is on hold. Oddworld is one of the few franchises that created a consistently compelling world, for me. I absolutely adored Strangers Wrath.

God damn the state of the industry at the moment :( If publishers werent too focussed on the next big blockbuster, someone would have picked up this game, just like in the good old days.

I think that SW took some of the good elements from Halo and put them in a much richer, varied, artistically refined environment. I never really enjoyed Halo all that much, myself.

I agree. There's no denying the impact that Halo:CE had, but for me personally, Strangers Wrath gave me an unforgettable experience. Definitely in the top 5 of my favorite games last gen.

I love oddworld

I played it on the PS1 and I got it again when they came out on steam

I never played strangers wrath so I'm definitely getting it on steam

What a bummer. Strangers Wrath was one of the more refreshing games that I played on Xbox last gen. The wacky characters and their hilarious lines still stands out in my mind. I always thought that Oddworld would make a killer television series.

I found both of the PS1 games fairly difficult, but I was pretty young. Munchs Oddysee was hard as nails too. Strangers Wrath was alot more forgiving.
