The original PSP was the greatest handheld ever. So if its half as good as the first one it will be great.

Not a chance, IMO. The DS is just too far ahead by now.

Uhhh, there is no new PSP. Fool. Get your PSP news straight.

And the PSP will never take down the DS since people who just want games buy the DS. Homebrewers and hackers buy PSPs.

the handheld itself will likely cause a ripple in the DS lite sales for the first 2 weeks after launch but unless it has some killer apps released the same time as it then i do not think it will "leave the DS in the dust".

PSP vs DS isnt over yet. Yes, the ds is ahead alot in hardware sales, but sony still has lots of time to catch up or do better.

PSP will win in the long run, just like every sony console.

Wow, adding an optional white color, that's definatley going to lead to victory. Now we just need to have a green PS3 for Sony to win the war. Console Colors are the most important things. It's not like people buy the DS for games, they buy it for it's colors of course.

I have no idea what new Sony PlayStation Portable is coming out in Japan but the connectivity might give it that energy to come on top. Like honestly I know graphics aren't what makes a game sell but better graphics make it a hell of a lot easier to look at. Like with cell phones the non - coloured ones vs. the coloured ones obviously the coloured is more popular. So with the Sony PSP I think it should be on top but you guys like your Nintendo Dogs, Mario Kart, Samus...etc. Don't get me wrong I love it to but that is so predictable. At a certain point it's going to get stale and going to want something new.

To generation to generation with technology changing every two seconds and once space technology gets better. You'll see kids wanting to go into space instead of watching Mario jump to save the princess yet again from what's his face...Bowser if spelled correctly.

Like Ratchet and Clank, GTmobile, and Burnout Ledgends?  Look man, if you bash the DS about having too many franchise games and think the PSP is better becuase of that, thats just flat out hypocrisy.  I must ask though, what was predictable about Nintendogs?

This prediction, of course, ignores the fact that this past holiday season PSP sales were not only lower than the year before, but that shipments also dropped about 90% from the year before. That's not a good sign.

So you aren't surprised that the "Nintendogs" was some cute plush thing having you taking care of a dog by yelling into your DS Lite. Lol like honestly I wasn't surprised in the fact that it was just targeted to kids only. It's going to be the same for Halo how long do you expect people to keep buying it and the same with Killzone they will all get boring eventually. It will be the same repetitive things over and over you'll see and I highly do-ut that the Halo 3 game will finish. Then again if it does it will be another franchise of the same concept.

There are only two kinds of games out there :

  1. One with violence
  2. One with mild or no violence ( there hasn't been a game with zero violence, wait basball)

The new psp is probably gonna sell well in the beginning, but if it wants to be up there with the DS, it needs to be cheaper, aroud the same price as the DS.

You mentioned Nintendogs in a sentance with many franchises, stating that it was predictable that they would be there and that they would get stale. This game was the first Nintendogs game ever, so what made you know that when you heard the DS was made by nintendo, Nintendogs was coming? You then said that you liked the PSP more becuase of the original games: "So with the Sony PSP I think it should be on top"Followed by stating "stale" franchises. What new games that are not franchises are on the PSP? I know of three good ones, Lumines, LocoRoco, and Exit. You seem to have bashed the DS for having too many franchise games, which is wildly hypocritical if you do not bash the PSP for the same reason.

Honestly I will finish what I've started because you're making me get off topic here. When I said it was predictable I meant (the idea of it) that it wasn't a surprise that Nintendo went the route they went. The same can be said with the (idea of) Microsoft and Sony I'm not surprised that they're trying to be the power house off the industry. So when I see the Nintendo characters, the Sony games, and Microsoft games there isn't much difference between themselves (the idea of the games).

With that said how much different was Metroid Prime - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, as of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater / Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (which they made after Snake Eater with more stuff), Halo - Halo 2. Pretty soon people will realize that we are just playing the same games (using recycled ideas) with pretty graphics. So with that said I think the their handholds will follow the same path and eventually the gaming industry (my opinion) will lose its thunder for at least a years time.

Or it could possibly be me and I'm just getting bored of the gaming industry because I'm foreshadowing of what could be. To tell you the truth I'm not impressed with next - generation at all, it wasn't what I thought it to be. Yet at the same time I hope what was problems last generation is fixed this time around (lagging online, A.I. [artificial intelligence], polished game play...etc).

Now back to the original topic which was Sony PSP vs. Nintendo DS Lite.

the PSP will never win unless it has kiddie games like the DS has (barbie). All the youngsters buy the DS. Also the Japanese like kiddie games. There also needs to be a selection of colors so little girls can buy pink PSP's. The DS has all the youngsters on their side, the PSP has lot's of older kids on their side.

PSP vs DS isnt over yet. Yes, the ds is ahead alot in hardware sales, but sony still has lots of time to catch up or do better.

PSP will win in the long run, just like every sony console.

i think the psp will surpass the ds in sales overall in NA and europe (Japan is a lost cause).

once it gets a price drop it will start selling alot better.

I also think that when PS3 picks up steam it will create more awareness of the psp.

Sorry but you can argue that about the PS3 no way in hell will the PSP ever lead DS, it doesn't take a 5yr old to work that out.

I don't know what they (Sony) could possibly do to make the PSP look better; it already looks good :? If you make it thinner I think it's crossing into "fragile" territory.

What's this about a new PSP? Unless it does something that the first couldn't or has a different design it isn't really new. I think the problem is the PSP is after the same market they had with the PS2. However (as so many cows have been trying to tell sheep) things don't quite work that way from home console to handheld or vice versa. The DS has a mass appeal where the younger market is even larger than with home consoles. The PSP is currently lacking a hook to catch the hearts of consumers. With its price (which I expect to be dropped this year, it would be stupid to do otherwise) and lack of something to induce peoples curiosity there isn't really reason to look at the PSP.

Of course franchises are going to get old if you don't change stuff in them.  Look at Final Fnatasy, it's been around for what? 20 years?  People still want it becuase it changes with every installment.  It's almost the same with nintendo titles, even though they are the same franchises, they are fresh and new each time. Franchises always come and go, so I agree that games will get old like that if htey don't change them someway to keep it new.
What bothers me is the fact that you said the PSP should come out on top for what seems to be the sole reason that the DS has too many franchises.  In reality, the PSP has way more franchise games than the DS; the DS is a game console for games like Phoenix Wright and Elite Beat Agents, not Mario Kart and Yoshi's Island. The PSP, however, seems to be based on "Get all your favourite PS2 franchises on a handheld!" and thus Ratchet and Clank, Daxter, Burnout, and Tekken are wanted and are the best games on the system.

pretty weak trolling attempt, that aside psp hasnt really lost. The DS is just doing so much better. Sales for PSP have slowed rather than picked up, will be interesting to see if this trend conitnues. Id love to get a psp to go along side my DS (which is the most adictive system i have ever owned) but i wont do so till they are much cheaper, lots of games i want to play but im not gonna run out and buy one like i did for the DSL.

the gap between DS and PSP sales have only been GROWING, there is no way sony can catch up now....maybe they can try again in the next handheld generation. :?
