I am not as good at games as I used to be. I bought Rogue Squadron 2 for my Wii (game cube) the other week and am undeniably stuck on it, will probably never play it again. As to am I with Zelda on the Wii (about 1/2 way through when you have to protect the horse and cart). I am just finding games tedious and well, not fun anymore. I don't need people to put me straight on that comment, I just think it is my age and I am losing interest in the win, win, win way of thinking! BUT. I do enjoy games where I am having fun, plus serious games as long as they are not too dam hard!

I want (well there is a need) to get a handheld and I am stuck between the 2 main players; new PSP and DSL. The price tag for me is the same (the PSP is £10 more). Graphically and spec wise the PSP wins hands down. I have a Wii, but no PS2 or 3 so most games available on the PSP would be new to me, whereas the DSL would have lots of similar games available on the Wii. The PSP does not have the innovative touch screen, but then I have the innovative interface on the Wii. Sounds like the PSP is winning so far, BUT the PSP to me seems a handheld for the more serious gamer, meaning I will find the games too hard and tedious?? Will I be throwing it out the window in frustration, buying games and not completing them, etc? This is the problem, what shall I do!

Please any constructive comments to help me decide will be greatly appreciated (no fan boy silly comments please).

DS games are generally made with short sessions in mind. You will probably find it more to your liking. I'm much the same way as you in terms of gaming habits, and I far, FAR prefer the DS to the Wii.

I suggest the psp since you don't have a ps2, but first you'll have to tell us what games you like.

I used to own a psp, really never cared about it, unless you're into PS2 ports and half-assed rpg's.

I haven't really tried the DS though, so i couldnt say.

Take a look at my profile to see the sort of games I buy. As you can see there is not really a specific genre I stick to. Although lately, I've been enjoying the more party type games (Wario, etc) but I think that is only because I am struggiling with normal main stream games. I come from a very strong PC gaming background and used to be very much at home with a fast FPS or action title. The following titles on the PSP interest me, but I think Iam only put off by my own ability.

GTA

MGS: Portable Ops

Crush

Killzone: Liberation

Lego Star Wars

Wipeout

Yes, he can get some of the PSP games on the PS2, but he mentioned that he didnt have a PS2.

I suggest one of the new PSPs. I bought one of them and I love it. Crisis Core = Amazing. Birth By Sleep = more amazing

You act like thePSP doesn't have any games lol. Also, you can't clearly say that the DS is better than the PSP. In you opinion sounds much better.

Well... I went and had a demo in a shop of both the DSL and the new PSP. Straight away I was blown away by the PSPs graphics and screen size. Yes the DSL's touch screen is a nice touch but, as I thought I'd feel, I thought well, I've got the innovative interface on the Wii, I have never owned a PS, therefore none of the games available and therefore..... bought ....a ....

*drum roll*

PSP Slim & Lite with 1GB memory card, Kill Zone Liberation, GTA Vice City and MGS Portable Ops.

I've had a play on all of them and was particularly impressed with Zillzone's playability and fun factor. I think the Wii will definitely have it's place in my house, a console to have fun on with my missus, friends and family and the PSP will be there for me to play on my own when I am waiting for the missus to get ready to go out! or when she wants to watch something on TV!

Thanks for all the comments, they did help in me, making my decision.

The PSP may win hands down in specs but buying console comes down the type of gamer your are. You should check out the games that each of the consoles have and find out any game that you are familar with or interested in. Since you are coming from the Nintendo side, you might find the DS more to your liking. I personally have a PSP because the games it offers appeal to me such as Socom, MGS, and Tekkan. The DS might prove more to you, since the games are an easier learning curve, and since you have Wii, may have some kind of connectivity features, like the PSP and the PS3.

That is where your wrong. Those are the only 2 non gaming games ever for the DS, released when it was first released. If people still think the DS has anymore of those games, they're wrong. There are plenty of DS games to keep you busy and addicted, like Phantom Hourglass which ships today :o

Both handheld systems have very high quality games out for them. Imo, while the dual screens dont do much for the DS (in the games I've played .. meaning 1 .. that I sold), the touch screen is awesome. On the otherhand, the graphical quality and size of the screen on the PSP is truly amazing. It really is a portable playstation though, so several of its games are known for being glorified ports. However, glorified indeed. Final Fantasy Tactics was really reborn on the PSP and its a clearly superior version to both the original U.S. ver, and the Japanese due to some great voice acting in the US ver (none was present in the Japanese),

That's a lie and you know it. Just the past couple of weeks there has been Tales of Hearts, Suikoden, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star Zero for the DS and Dissidia for the PSP.

Edit: Oh, I see this thread is from 2007. It's still a lie.

DS is more fun in my hands rather then a psp

its also more for quick on the go games

stuff u can get in and out of in a snap

the 1 thing i like about psp though is the Media things about it, e.g UMV, Internet, mp3 :D

The DS is the best handheld ever made. The PSP is an OK also ran with a few very good exclusives
