We decided to create a new TF environment after sensing some desert-fatigue, both internally and externally. The new theme had to be a departure from the current look without being so different that the characters felt out of place in it. We also wanted to leverage some content from our existing environments, since crafting every asset from scratch would mean we'd be moving the release beyond Valve time and into the realm of geologic time. Given these goals and constraints, we settled on the Alpine theme for two reasons: Its green foliage and blue-gray rocks let us introduce a new, cooler color palette to the game, and the lumber mill / mining camp buildings fit our existing set of structures. For Arena Lumberyard, the goal was to establish a clear difference between the two sides of the map. One side climbs up toward a large mountain peak, and the other dips down into a vast valley. We're excited to have a new visual theme to play with, and we'll definitely be using it in future maps.

im actually happy for this, im tired of Dustbowl

Haven't you played since the update? The new artstyle is already in one of the maps (Lumberyard)

So are they modifying the engine to look more like a painting or is that just concept art for the new area? Because if they modify it then that would be quite awesome.

It's concept art, but the real thing isn't far off.

Hmm...I'm tempted to buy TF2 for PC. I only have it for 360, but the PC version seems to have a better community and obviously more accurate gameplay. I do hate buying games far after release though...I end up not being able to really learn how to play since everyone else is so much better :?

I know there was an update yesterday and I am working on the Heavy Achievements (eating sandwich is comedy), but I didn't try the maps that were part of the update. I might have to check that out when I get home.

Well there's a free weekend coming up, so you can use that to test the waters. Besides TF2 is a pretty easy game to get into.

Oooh! I didn't know that. I really should open Steam more often and check for these things...it was by pure luck I saw the "Buy Prey for 5 bucks for one weekend" deal. Thanks.

No, the learning curve for TF2 is quick and easy. You will need to experiment with the classes to find what fits you and most weapons for the game have a secondary feature.

Hints: Engineers can turn equipment 360 degrees by right clicking the mouse BEFORE you build. When reviving people with the medic, you will hear "I am fully charged" which means when you hit the right button you will have a timed invincibility, but only use it when the other person is ready. Demo's have a sticky bomb that you can detonate with right clicking.

Edit: There are 3 classes that have achievements that will unlock different weapons. Pyro, Medic, and Heavy. You will get the hang of it, but I will say to learn quickly go to a CTF server so you can mess around a bit to see how everything works.

Naah, just stick to the newby friendly classes like soldier. The game is more about teamwork than twicht reflexes and headshots.

It's 2 Fort. >_> :P

Valve hurry up with these updates so the 360 community gets a kick in the rear for new life assuming you release this stuff for 360 users after the PC gets it all.

And before someone says "Buy it for PC" I tried the Free Weekend with a previous update and the game runs awful on my computer.

I find soldier rather difficult. demo is easiest if you just spam pill bombs, and pyro is good as long as you don't try to go long range.

it's not a completely new artstyle. It's just a new environment with different colours instead of the usual brown.

I'm just saying... where's the new art style? It's just a new map in a new environment. The art style doesnt appear to have changed at all.
