720p Gameplay (7 MBps)

I have to say... Ditch that AA for FXAA.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
And they NEED FXAA. Jeebus, those jaggies are all over the place. And the texture aliasing and blurring, where is the AF?
That is a good question actually. Anyone know why console games never feature decent AF? Is this a limitation of the GPU? AF has been really cheap to do on PC in terms of performance for years now.
The animations and gameplay look great though.
I'd sell my first born for a PC version.

Why isn't it using FXAA? What ever there using now (Could someone fill me in on what it is?) isn't working at all.
It looks like maybe 2x MSAA, or possibly MLAA.
The jaggies are deiniftley very noticeable, but up cloe objects feature smoother lines. Defintely not FXAA. FXAA on my PC is about equivalent to somehting in between 2X and 4X MSAA and looks a hell of a lot better than that.

I dunno. Some cheap MLAA variant which blurs the picture this time.If they use FXAA they can free up more room for graphical effects. It's quick and painless to implement.

Actually I'm pretty sure MLAA is faster right now on the PS3. I'm sure they cna get FXAA close to the same performance if they tried though.

Not one, but 2 1/2. Don't attempt to show off with an older build, especially that old. You're just going to make people think it looks more like Gears 2 and digging its grave.
[QUOTE="GuNsbl4ziN"]
Does it have any anti-aliasing at all?
CorbraMax
Yeah. It's not covering all objects like it should.
MSAA?

I was thinking about buying Uncharted since I'm not really interested in any other games except it and Gears and I have a gaming budget. But I gotta say, ND is really managing to kill it for me. Back to FXAA!
MSAA?
All this footage was shown at e3 behind closed doors, I'm pretty sure it is the e3 build. At that time, naughty dog stated that FXAA was very new and they hadn't had time to toy around with it yet. It still might make it into the game.
As it stands, I think i read somewhere that it is a modified MLAA which takes less resources?

ohgeez
I doubt they'd use the E3 build. What would the reason be?
Gamescom is a newer build.
The E3 build featured the cruise ship.
Remember that FXAA3 was put in at the very last minute for Gears 3. That game was originally developed with no AA in mind.
CorbraMax
Not last minute. Unreal support FXAA a couple months ago, I believe it was in builds a while ago.

This was written on june 8th describing the cruise scene and the footage from this video: both shown at e3. I figured they would just use the same build as they already had the demo thrown together from e3 so instead of focusing on preparing us something new to show, they could just continue working on the game.
But who knows, its all just my guess. And yes, like epic, naughtydog still has time to play around with the AA. The FXAA looks great in gears 3, i'd be interested to see if they can do something with it
It has more jaggies.
CorbraMax
A jagie will not make a game look worst than another that is build to a higher standard,i played the Beta for Uncharted 3 and jagies were not a problem at all,so i don't think they will be in fact in the video i have see they are not an issue what so ever.

More jaggies can make any game look worse. Going all the way back from the original Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2 (No AA) to Virtua Fighter 4 Evo on PS2 (AA). Technically the same game graphically, but the jaggies can make things look like lego blocks.
The jaggies are not a problem for some. But they are there. The jaggies were really noticeable on the Airstrip map.

um, lets not forget the treatment Forza 2 received here :? i didn't find the jaggies a problem in that at all either. But SW is pretty obsessed with the finer details regarding console graphics, U3 will most likely still win all the polls anyway.I watched the trailer in 3d, it looked quite badass. Is the beta still open?It looks way better in motion. I swear :).

FXAA isn't the god of all AA.
MLAA is actually higher quality (although not the gimped version Naughty dog is using) than FXAA, FXAA isn't far off though and is cheaper performance wise than MLAA.
They either need to use traditional MLAA, FXAA, or just use 2xMSAA like Uncharted 2.
I can just about Guarantee Uncharted 3 will end up like Killzone 3 was to Killzone 2, that is looking worse than Uncharted 2 in some area's but better in others. Which is still fantastic.
Anyways, this game will be amazing.

It really does. But not that particular part. The jaggies are shimmering in motion.
Watching the video for the 27th time, I do realize the jaggies when Drake pulls the guy off. And when he shoots the enemy with the tranquilizer. But I didnt notice the jaggies at first, so its not a big deal. But yeah, AA wasnt the best choice.
I think it looks pretty good, and it will look even better on a decent TV. There are also jaggies in direct feed videos of UC2, but when I play it, I don't notice them. I can never trust those videos, even if it is direct feed. Somehow, some games looks better on my TV.

The image should look a bit smoother if you're playing in 720p mode on a 1080p HDTV.

It certainly does. ITs just weird how a sequel looks worse than its predecessor
Wouldn't be the first time, but I'll hold my judgment until we get the end product and a lengthy comparison.[QUOTE="Martin_G_N"]

Yeah, it's a bit different than watching a 720p movie being stretched out on my 24" 1080p PC monitor while sitting 10 inches away. Tv's also have more hardware and software that helps improving the image even if the image is'nt full HD.[QUOTE="Martin_G_N"]

Still waiting on some impressive 720p shot's of gears 3 to be shown, as of nowtheir aren't any, only wonky resized images that could easily be touched up bullshots. I don't konw why lemmings are so focused on getting native resolution shot of UC3 and trying to nit pick when they don't have any to show of Gears3...at least none that are the slightest bit impressive.
At least we know what UC3 really looks like and it looks great.
Perhaps all this nit picking will come back to haunt you guys when native res shots of the latest Gears 3 footage comes to surface. It wont' be the first time.

I already posted direct feed shots of Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 from that beta topic. The IQ compared to Uncharted 3 held up well despite it having no AA. A quick google search would help you out. "Search Beta Graphics King".
If anything, FXAA3 would do more good than harm. Specifically since it's using the sharper FXAA setting.
And blame God of War 3 for coming out with MLAA. That's the gold standard in console IQ.
Since people want to talk about bullshots and what not and harp on what UC3 looks like in DIRECT FEED native resolution:
To put things in perspective, here is the only ingame native resolution 1080x720 pic of Gears 3 avalible, now compaire that with this UC3 image...gone leave it at that

Give it a month when it comes out, I've already seen some pretty impressive stuff (possibly best on console) but I'm not sharing an unfinished product.
