MS is starting to loose huge ammounts of $$ with all the hacked consoles.
Some of you might have noticed that some of the most popular Torrent sites have many new 360 releases in their top 100 popular torrents.
Same goes for the Wii.

they still faced no real threat if it was hacked. The majority of pirates generally wouldnt want to dl 30+gb files for each game then by an extremely expensive blu ray burner and discs just to burn it.and people wonder why sony took out linux which was a exploitation risk

true but it puts a dent in software sells and keeps companies for making game for these consoles so in a way its a double edge swordgenerally speaking doesnt piracy help sell consoles?

The majority maybe but if the PS3 got hacked there would still be a lot of revenue lost. People could just leave the DL on overnight and many games are a lot smaller than 30GB.wii is also hacked and wii games can be played on PC it's just a matter to time everything will get hacked and piratedbadtakerI doubt the PS3 will be hacked, as mentioned above it is undesirable to most hackers and Sony are willing to take drastic action to prevent possible piracy threats.

The PS3 pirate hacks dont take off because of the hassle.
Even with linux still available it wouldnt be problem, pirating is simply to complicated on the PS3.

Smart coders would cut away at the file sizes and develop compression, then it's just a matter of booting the game from storage on a hard disk. Considering Sony ripped away the linux OS after Hello World broke through on it, it's pretty clear it was immediate damage control to potential threats.and people wonder why sony took out linux which was a exploitation risk

i'm sure its very complicated to try to pirate games on the ps3 but its not impossible and thats why sony said No way jose and removed the linux feature, i would have done the same thing and people say its a hassle but like i said you have no idea what people will go through to be able to pirate ps3 games for freeand people wonder why sony took out linux which was a exploitation risk

There is no actual way of knowing how many of those people who illegality downloaded a game would have otherwise purchased it. And you certainly can't assume that they all would.
Why? Some people were not planning on buying new slim model until it would have become hackable. So, if anything, this will be a profit booster for MS.Linky

well all in all sony removed the only viable way to hack the ps3 so they don't need to worry about this, unless someone somehows finds a way to do it, my friend has a hacked wii and now the 360 is showing it can be hacked also. I'm sure these companies don't care care if its theoretically or not, they don't want their machines hack period[QUOTE="Sky-"]But that would hurt the Halo Reach sales, M$ aint dumbI wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft had another mass banning/bricking scheduled when Reach gets released. =O

smart thing to do would be to wait a month, getting people hooked on the game... then banning em and hoping they go out and buy everything legit.

They would have to lose money either way, if the hacking increases sales of consoles then they lose money because PS3 sells at a loss. It's like music downloads, if I had to pay for music I wouldn't download 1/10 of the music I currently do because I would be bankrupt but they are still losing revenue because I would still download music.[QUOTE="markinthedark"]true but it puts a dent in software sells and keeps companies for making game for these consoles so in a way its a double edge swordgenerally speaking doesnt piracy help sell consoles?

that was back in the day and this is now and we're in a recession where people aren't buying videogames like they use too, the ps2 and also the xbox could get away with being pirated but times have changed and i don't think companies are going to sit back and let it happen. If this 360 slim hack gets out of control you can believe microsoft is going to do some serious damage controlSurely MS would have spent a large amount of time making the slim hack free, it not only means less money but also less dev support.gamebreakerz__well they will have about as much luck as ubisoft had with it's drm how ever long they spend. you can never stop the hackers and pirates. Only reason ps3 is doing well is because br disks cost more than it's worth.

A lot of effort did went into hacking PS3, hacker's pride comes from breaking something first, BR wasn't what's stopping the hackers.

And the cost associated with trying to even pirate Blu-Ray discs is kind of absurd. $200 RW double layer drives, $7-10 per disc, and HDD space associated with storing 30-50 GB files. The cost just isn't worth it when you can just go with DVDs(and things associated with that) for 1/50th the cost. PC piracy is even higher than Xbox 360 piracy because there isn't even a cost of making discs, all you need is download and then find a crack for the game.

No. There was effort into hacking the PS3 but it wasn't even remotely close to being "a lot of effort." There were some groups, but most didn't even bother.
I don't get it. Would a 360 s be different to hack than an older 360? Aren't they the same parts, more or less, and the same software (and isn't the software what gets hacked)?
Unless the s model came with a massive firmware update that tightened up the operating system, I don't see why it wouldn't be expected to be hacked.
That would truly be hilarious .I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft had another mass banning/bricking scheduled when Reach gets released. =O

That would truly be hilarious . Funny thing is they would sell even more consoles because you know Halo fanboys arent missing out on Reach.Meh, 360 titles continues to sell in the millions so not a major issuebigboss5akSo your saying it's ok for the 360 to be hacked and help kill developer sales?
[QUOTE="Chris_Williams"]they still faced no real threat if it was hacked. The majority of pirates generally wouldnt want to dl 30+gb files for each game then by an extremely expensive blu ray burner and discs just to burn it. the fact that bluray burners are about £150 now and 10 pack writable blurays can be brought for £15 make your points pretty much void, and seeing as i have downloaded games like ME2 and DA:O from steam which are both over 15GB the whole files are to big argument seems a little dated as well.and people wonder why sony took out linux which was a exploitation risk

Which would lose them money. Console manufacturers make the consoles at a loss and then recoup the money from software and accessory sales
and yet the wii and 360 both outsell the ps3 in software sales...every month...as well as total world wide...Linky
