Call of Duty 2021 Is Tentatively Titled WWII: Vanguard

Per Sources, Call of Duty 2021 is Tentatively Titled WWII: Vanguard. This is clearly a code name / working title and will be changed in the future, but this is our first look at the potential title of the next entry for Call of Duty. As we previously reported, the game is being primarily developed by Sledgehammer Games.

Another saving private Ryan rip off?

Either do WW2 right and stop with the red dot sight - purple skin bullshit.

Or make it completely over the top like BF1942 Secret Weapons of WW2.

Ah yes, as someone once put it, the last war where there was a clear Heel and Face that didn't break Kayfabe.

But it's still Call of Duty, so this means nothing to me.

No matter the setting it's still COD and I'm not a fan of the gameplay.

If this was a brand new Medal of Honor, I would get excited but since this is yet another Call of Duty, nothing to see here.

We had the early 2000s when big publishers were releasing 2-3 WW2 games every year, and people bought them.

Why don't publishers get there is a market for these, and people don't just want "a modern game but it happens to be set in WW2"

I hate how they never fixed small historical inaccuracies. They added in the G43 (German rifle) in later for multiplayer portion of the game.

But they never fixed how the germans in Normandy were all carrying SVT40 Tokarev rifles.

It's just a simple model swap, jesus christ. Take some pride in what you create.

Hopefully they can get the excellent Miguel Concepcion to review it again, his takes are always remarkable.

The more you play, the more rewards you earn that can be spent to hone your personal armory and abilities to suit your needs. Adding to your identity-building are the myriad cosmetic items you unlock by opening supply crates, which are awarded regularly as you play. This blind box system plays out innocuously, with no pay-to-win shortcuts in sight, at least in the game's launch iteration.

This spectator appeal even extends to watching others open their loot crates, effectively echoing the childhood pastime of opening collectable card packs with friends. It's the place to feel motivated by higher ranking players who wear their prestige status icons proudly. Sledgehammer knows what a big deal prestiging is as evidenced by the fanfare and spectacle of a plane flybys when you reset your rank.

They should just stop with these titles and put all their focus on Warzone (not that i give two shits what happens with CoD, tho). Warzone is what prints them money, and every streamer that i follow and play this garbage, is constantly complaining about no new content and shit balance.

All those CoD, Medal of Honor, ect...type games are overly scripted & linear. Trying to emulate movies & shows like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers too much.

Hidden & Dangerous series is WW2 done right. The closest you'll get to a WW2 version of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis.

You control SAS...not American or Russian. And It represents a different war front....very refreshing. One of the bios for your men.... "He was a painter before the war, now he joined the army and is one of the best snipers " no big deal.

Play 2 at least already and stop giving a crap about all this popamole shit. And I don't wanna hear a word about the graphic whoring either (it still looks fine)

I play on the difficulty level right below the hardest which gives you 3 saves per level (it effects the enemy AI) I would play on the hardest but it doesn't give you any saving during missions. And don't take any compasses with you as it shows the enemies positions when you bring up the map.(ez mode)

Oh yea....It's fully playable in 1st or 3rd person view (I play strictly in 1st)

Good luck, soldier.

Very excited for this. The last 2 CoD's were a return to form for the series, especially Cold War which is the best one since Blops 1.

COD and MOH exist because they are based on Saving private Ryan. infact very first MOH was created because steven spielberg son was goldeneye fan and he want his father to create WW2 equivalent of goldeneye.

MOH allied assault D-Day scene taking from Saving private Ryan and to this day WW2 games strictly follow this movie.

COD 2 is still one of my favorites. 3 was pretty good too with similar gameplay but more game modes. Modern Warfare 1 and 2 were okay but yeah, when they started adding red dots to WWII shit and calling them apertures it was pretty bad. I would love to see a COD 2 and 3 remaster.

It wouldn't even hurt them to mix up COD releases in between years.

Last year was cold war, two years ago modern, this year WW2: make them feel different.

My biggest problem is there's just too damn many of them. Why should I buy a Call of Duty title this year when it'll be obsolete less than a year later? And in making so many, the quality of gameplay has tanked and they've been resorting to gimmicks to try to freshen it up.

COD2 was longest COD game and also most varied one. and even though introducing regen health it was still one of the hardest on veteran.

The maps in COD2 are also open ended compare to other COD as in few missions you have choice to either complete objective A or objective B ie clean the building first or clean the church first.

I would be OK with some alternate history CoD's if they want to get creative. They don't have to go all Wolfenstein on us, but it'd be cool to play games where maybe the Russians beat the US to the moon, nuclear war did happen, Western Europe falls to the communists, and so on.

@sakaixx said:

For real. The Korean War is so unknown as far as education goes, and yet from what little I know it was absolutely terrible.

Plus it hits that sort of interesting tipping point where we are just entering the nuclear age, using jet airplanes, and more widespread use of plastics and such.

This was easily best iteration of D-Day landing seriously. I was very young and my child mind was blown by this kind of location/atmosphere in WW2 setting in a video game.

I went to all the places in Normandy portrayed in COD and COD 2's campaigns.

What they have recreated is so faithful to the original locations and the original equipement that the soldiers had.

But then COD WW2 comes along and it's just very disrespectful to the source material.

COD WAW was the last good one set in WW2.

Last COD I played was 4 IMO it was shit never bought a COD game since. Battlefield 2 is still the goat when it comes to modern FPS MP games a true PC classic. It's a damn shame the series sucks now and is dumbed down to appeal to the mainstream gamers unfortunately.

Absolutely. world at war also have best and darkest atmosphere in any COD game. it was first time COD was bloody and gory. was kinda sad it was overshadowed by vastly inferior modern warfare.

I don't think the AAA industry would make a game like this anymore. One that is dark and gritty and shows a realistic take on WW2.

This was last good COD moment and its 15 years.

I don't think the AAA industry would make a game like this anymore. One that is dark and gritty and shows a realistic take on WW2.

This was when activision was not greedy and treyarch were really talented developers before they jump into black ops crap.

beside that it was also a last breed of WW2 shooters before all developers went for modern war during 7th gen.
