Poll Next gen console owners - will you be going with 'graphical fidelity' or 'performance' mode for your games? (66 votes)

Graphical fidelity 14%
Performance 58%
Depends on the game 29%

I've been playing around with graphics settings in Miles Morales and it seems like each mode has their advantages. I find that my eyes can adjust to either one. But I do like it when the game looks amazing and has a stable frame rate, even if it's just 30fps. How about you, SW?

Performance. Always. 30fps is unacceptable.

60 FPS (anything over 60 is pointless for me my screens are all 60) > Good Graphics > Resolution

I notice 4k. I don't notice 60fps vs 30fps in non-VR games. I'll stick with the graphical fidelity.

When I get a next gen console and a 4K capable tv then I’ll probably take it on a case by case basis myself. Also it might depend on if the tv I get can handle 120fps or just 60fps and what exactly the settings for “fidelity” and “performance” entail.

Depends on the game. For action games, 60 fps is a must. But for slower-paced cinematic games, adventure games or turn-based RPGs, 30 fps is fine.

Graphics yep I'm a graphics whore I don't own a next gen console yet I game on PC I'm use to 60 FPS. But strangely enough 30 fps doesn't bother be me on console as much as it does on PC. I have yet to be impressed on a graphics scale for next gen consoles it just looks like PS4 graphics with a little ray tracing added. I want a better jump in graphics quality I'm so sick of these half ass graphically bumps.

I lean performance, but I like bells and whistles too. Spider-Man has a “performance RT” mode that runs at 60fps, but dials down a couple of other settings like NPC density in order to keep ray tracing on. That’s my preferred option in that game.

On PC, I’m trying everything I can to hit, and keep 144fps without lowering the resolution below 1440p. So things like AA and shadow quality will get dropped to keep the frames up.

Depends on the game. For Control I preferred the performance mode as RT mode felt sluggish and the RT didn't do much for me, whereas with RE8 I prefer RT mode as it feels smooth and it looks better than without RT so I prefer RT on that. We will have to see.

I went back and played Observer System Redux as it got an update late March, and it now offers 4K with variable resolution to keep gameplay smooth and that's even with RT and ambient occlusion on, a substantial improvement over where the game was at launch.

All the above as I have a gaming PC for that but since we're talking about current-gen console wise, always "Performance" as I prefer better framerates to better graphics myself😊

Performance when I get a next gen console. The graphical fidelity mode would be overkill for me since I do not have a 4k tv at the moment.I used default mode when I played kh3 a few months ago on my xbox one

Seems like if Playstation and Xbox put "2K120" on their boxes, not only would they actually have a chance of delivering that, it seems it's what more people would actually prefer. At least early on in the generation. After the transitional period is over I doubt you'll get a stable 2K above 60fps, or 4K anywhere above 30fps as developers add more content, more details, etc to their games.

Performance every time.

I know people here dislike 30fps but I don't mind it as long as the framerate is stable, if it dips then it's a nightmare.

If you're playing an interactive movie, point & click adventure, visual novel, or turn-based RPG, what difference does it really make whether it's 30 fps or 60 fps? You can't just generalize for all video games, but it needs to be judged on a genre-by-genre basis. For certain genres (like action games, action-adventures and action RPGs), of course 30 fps is never fine. But for certain other genres, it makes little difference whether it's 30 fps or 60 fps.

I want games to have a performance fidelity mode, focusing on 1080p and 60fps. That's pretty doable on both PS5 and flopbox series x.

Sad for the trashbox series Sad, that can't even run top gear.

Performance, 120Hz is nice but 60Hz is a must for modern games. It's not just about the latency, it's how 30 fps is displayed on-screen. I can literally see the missed frames as an on screen judder and ghosting effect and it's far from ideal now.

I have a gaming PC, a Series X and a 144Hz G-sync/Free-sync display. I don't play many of my PC games at the full 144Hz, but 60fps is a minimum now for my modern gaming needs.

I've played all my games in performance mode so far, the drop in visuals has to be very severe for me to start using 'fidelity' mode.

Depends on the game... if it's a more cinematic game, I'd probably go for graphical fidelity.
